New Blog: World Soccer Digest for Soccer Fans!

From The Boys Blog to The Blue and Silver Report and now Blogging the Boys.

Star-divide

Hello old friends from TheBoysBlog and BlueAndSilverReport, it seems we're on the move again. It was with reluctance that we left theboysblog for blueandsilverreport but I think most would agree that once we became acclimatised to our new surroundings things were just as good. Now we're leaving blueandsilver and are arriving at BloggingTheBoys, again, it must be said, with some reluctance. But just as we came to enjoy blueandsilver I'm sure we'll appreciate bloggingtheboys once acclimated, as the most important parts, the content from the writers and regulars, has remained constant and that's what matters.

To all the bloggingtheboys regulars, you guys must feel like you're getting invaded with a sudden influx of now 'instant regulars', hopefully we can add something positive to your discussions. I had previously checked your site occasionally and found some interesting articles and comments so hopefully that means we'll have some good Cowboy related discussions in the near future as Dallas picks themselves up, dusts off some injuries, builds up some anger and rips the NFL apart the second half of the season and the playoffs... either that or they completely fold and we can blast our OLine and DLine and talk draft until the offseason, both would be fun discussions but I'm sure I'd prefer the former :)

***I have retracted my earlier comment about the text size because a) now that I'm getting used to it it's not much difference and b) ricky and parl offered up a very simple solution. To all us new guys, take advantage of the great Fanposts feature, I know some of you will come up with some great topics for discussion. And remember, if you want to keep a really good Fanpost and discussion going just click the Recommend (rec) button and it will help the entry to rise to the top of the list and stay there. This way really good long debates (like the ones that would go for days or even weeks at BoysBlog, B&S and I'm sure here too) won't get lost by the more frequent content that this site offers.

***Wow, just saw something else and this will really appeal to us fans who live outside the US; there's a place called Cowboysmedia.com that has all the games this year (and 07, 06) available for download! So if you missed any that's the place to get them. There's full game vids, quarter by quarter vids, highlight vids, just heaps and heaps of cool stuff. I have no idea of the quality because I haven't downloaded anything yet but the files are quite large so here's hoping it's really good. You need to know the Username and Password but down in the Fanshots section you'll see a post from Scottmaui (under the heading 'Week 8 TB@DAL Full Game Video') that'll provide you with the know how to get the info.

One last thing; we should do a role call of who has made the trip over and if you've still got your same name so we'll know who's here and who we are talking to.

Good to see that

one of the new guys is becoming acclimated to the Fanposts/shots sections of our blog. These are the lifeblood of BTB, and I had been fairly disheartened by the lack of BSR presence here to date. I was worried that perhaps they wouldn’t take advantage of this great feature, as I had only seen comments on the front page from them. Perhaps I’m biased, but I think a lot of us have really good insight and analysis to add, on top of what the big dogs add. So please, make your presence known, and let’s get some good talk rolling here. Let’s allow the merger to reach it’s full potential.

Hey

Mandmeisterx,

Thanks mate, I agree with your sentiment that the some of the best material (and also the funniest) comes from the fans section. And I just read your article on Jason Garrett and our offense and thought it was good stuff although I do think (or hope) that the J-man can turn it around.

welcome Luke

the more boys fans the better. I was a regular reader (but only very occasional commenter) at BSR, and love Raf and Raul’s analysis and insight and am looking forward to contributions here, but also to the contributions of all the community that is coming over with them. I hope you all feel totally welcome right away and make full use of the fanshots and fanposts.

Thanks scottmaui,

I was apprehensive about the move (simply because you get used to the same place and same group of people after a few years) but I guess I’m a bit of a sucker as the politeness that’s been extended to me and (from what I’ve seen) to the other blueandsilver immigrants from the regulars on here has been great and is already winning me over.

More from Down Under

I’m here Luke. Wonder if there are any more Aussies on this blog…

I like the Fanposts/shots section. There were regular occassions where fans would post some great analysis and it would just get lost in the threads.

Boy from Oz

Good to see you here. Haven’t seen any other Aussies yet, just me and you so far, but there’s probably a few more lurking about. We’re getting the game this week too!! Should be a great one.

On a plane

its a bummer – I’ll be on a plane on the way to the US.

I guess the upside is I will be in SF for the game against the 49’ers (unfortunately its in Dallas – otherwise I might have tried to get tickets).

And I will still be in the US for Thanksgiving!

Who is this new girl?

I liken the sudden merger of the two Cowboy blog site to having a close friend going on a long vacation and coming back married to a girl you never met. Leaves you wondering if your friend will be changed by their new relationship and if you will like hanging out with his new wife around. How you feel about the marrage and her speaks alot about how much you trust your friends judgement in women. Either way, you know some things will definitely be different.

I really like the site features and I am sure the content must have a lot going for it or it would not have such a strong following. I once had the pleasue of discussing the Internet blog business with Rafael over a lunch at training camp. One thing I am sure of is that he is really pasionate about the future of this endevor. With that in mind, I have to believe that the new girl must be a pretty good catch.

Now if the Cowboys can beat the dog-hell out of Washington this week all will be good with Cowboy blogging.

celebrating a win together

will be a great way to inaugurate the merger…

Sports Bloggers are an emotional bunch

Sports blogging hits go way down after a loss and up after a win. If Dallas loses at Washington this place will be a ghost town come Monday. A win will give rise to rational playoff hopes and this place should have plenty of posts and hits.

Fanposts

This is going to take some getting used to. At BSR, we got used to the bulk of the discussion and sidebars taking place in the comments section. There’s a certain benefit to the fanpost section in giving the rest of us a voice, I just worry that there are too many and the discussions will be cut short.

Then again, at BSR we might have over 300 comments on one post and 250 would be completely on the sidebar instead of the main post itself.

Eh. To the BSR / theboysblog boys (including me) we just need to give it some time and a chance. To the original BTB folks (I suppose we’re all BTB now) give us some time. We’ll bicker like family soon enough. We’re just all a little out of our comfort zone for a bit.

If you're worried about a conversation getting cut short

because there are too many Fanposts, you can always recommend the post. If it gets three rec’s, it will stick to the top until it has run it’s course. I think it’s a great feature, and one that doesn’t get used enough, imo.

by Mandmeisterx on Nov 13, 2008 6:54 AM CST up reply actions   0 recs

that’s the kind of things that us BSR folks are gonna need coaching on. lol
thanks for the heads up
consider this thread recommended.

Also bullgog jeeper (and everyone else)

if you go into your profile and hit Edit Settings you can set the number of Main Page articles, FanPosts and FanShots listed for you when you visit the blog. I think the defaults are 10,10 and 10 but I have my display set to 15 main page articles, 20 FanPosts and 20 Fanshots. This keeps more of the FanPosts and FanShots showing on the main screen when I come to the blog.

by Dave Halprin on Nov 13, 2008 9:07 AM CST up reply actions   0 recs

what do you mean?

what does it mean “until it has run it’s course?” who determines this? when? by what parameters? i’m fairly certain it’s not that big of a deal, i’m just curious…

I commented. You're welcome.

It's a time frame thing.

I think it’s two weeks, but I’m not quite sure. I’m sure Grizz could tell you exactly how long it stays up.

what's the difference?

between a fanshot and a fanpost?

I commented. You're welcome.

Fanposts are intended to either be really big, Cowboys-related breaking news, or your own personal thoughts that you’re using to spark debate. There is a 75 word minimum on Fanposts. You can also include links, polls, and pictures to your Fanposts. Fanshots are just quick hits to links or videos you have seen places. I think if you look down through a few, you’ll start to notice how they’re generally used. Hope this helps.

by Mandmeisterx on Nov 14, 2008 8:07 AM CST up reply actions   0 recs

We'll get used to it

I started reading Raf and Raul’s posts on the Boys Blog and moved over to BSR when they had those legal issues with that site (whatever happened to that anyway?). I’ve gladly moved over here to continue to read their insight. I look forward to adapting to this new site. As long as I get my Cowboys fix, I’ll be fine. I changed my avatar from the generic one. What’s up with the generic Obama avatar? I didn’t know he was a Cowboys fan.

by JoeWho on Nov 13, 2008 8:49 AM CST reply actions   0 recs

Thanks for the post Luke

As for the text size, this is the first time anybody has ever mentioned it as a problem. I think for now I’ll keep it at this size, I don’t have the best eyes in the world and I’ve never had a problem reading it. Also, it helps keep as much info as possible on the screen without the need for a lot of scrolling. Your browser should have a “text size” function that you could use for the blog. I’m always open to people’s suggestions so just because I don’t make a change doesn’t mean I’m not listening to ya!

Congrats on the recommended FanPost. You’re the first BSR guy to get one, although I hate thinking of us as separate entities, we’re now one big happy Cowboys family.

Yup.

Welcome guys!

You can also do CTRL and the PLUS (+) Key to make size bigger in Firefox (and maybe IE).

Parl

Yeah that works for Firefox and IE too, cool, thanks.

by Luke. on Nov 13, 2008 4:44 PM CST up reply actions   0 recs

Excellent

Thanks Ricky, that takes care of that no worries.

by Luke. on Nov 13, 2008 4:36 PM CST up reply actions   0 recs

Thanks for the welcome Grizz,

Yeah it’s cool about the text size, I’m actually getting used to it now and also a few of the other guys have given me directions on how to enlarge it if I want to and it worked so no dramas here. As I’m getting used to the setup here I am really beginning to like it a lot there’s stacks of great features here (auto new posts highlighted, Fanposts etc).

I’m beginning to think the merger was a great idea, as two very good blogs appear to be combining into one excellent blog.

Now if only the Cowboys can come to the party and combine their offensive and defensive talent and play consistently we might really have a spectacular new blog christening this weekend.

by Luke. on Nov 13, 2008 4:54 PM CST up reply actions   0 recs

So far so good...

As one of the folks who’s been on the boysblog & BSR for several years now, I have to say my main concern with the move was making sure Raf came with it. So we’re good there.

Hadn’t seen this site until the move, and I have to commend you guys on the site you have here. Lots of cool features we haven’t had before. I like the auto refresh and the new comment notices alot, and the fanposts are very cool.

Also, I’ve already seen some great posts & comments from the previous BTB readers, and good articles from our hosts. Feels like we just added a whole new crew of Boys fans, and the more the merrier!

Now we just need the Boys to get us a huge win on Sunday so we can all get drunk and celebrate!!! Thanks for making all us transplants feel welcome!

by TLCM on Nov 13, 2008 9:30 AM CST reply actions   0 recs

the way the comments work without having to reload and having a new comment notices is a great feature of the SBNation blogs. It is especially useful for live-game threads when comments are flying fast and furious. With our expanded community, that will be even more the case. Now we’ll have the best of both blogs in terms of content, but I think you’ll really find the features and the technical side of this blog to be very user friendly and conducive to an actively contributing community.

So I know why they merged blogs.

Obviously the seprate blog thing was what was causing all the bad luck the begining of this season. Now that the two blogs are united our luck will change. I hope this helps out my Fantasy team also.

by Becho on Nov 13, 2008 3:17 PM CST reply actions   0 recs

I think this is great!

As a full-time lurker (and occasional commenter) on both blogs, this is the best of both worlds for me. I love the content of BSR, but I really wasn’t a big fan on the new setup, so I love that I can get the content of both sites in one.

I’ve made the jump. Looks like a solid merger to me.

I’ve made the jump to. My name is taken (“Peter” on BSR) so I’ll go by “Teacher” now.

Training Camp Raf still going?

Hey guys. I haven’t been as active on BSR as I was on the Boys Blog, but I made it over here. One question; is Raf still gonna give us the training camp goods live??

roll call

I came over from BB/BSR. Happy to be here – the combined blog looks great. I’ve read back through the archives – looks like I’m sorry I didn’t know about this blog sooner, but happy to be here now.

Now if we can just get the O-line working, D-line crashing the pocket and D-backs shutting things down…oh, and get MB3 to the 2nd level of the Def…Oh, and make plays on ST instead of having them made on us….

I made the move right away

Not looking back either. I like this site and the new writers (new to me anyway). Adding Raf and Raul to this staff should make for an info-packed blog.

I am finding it a little hard to stay engaged in one conversation since there seems to be 3 new threads every day, plus the Fanposts, but I’m sure I’ll find a way to remedy that one way or another.

Threading

Slide:

Actually the way you can reply to a specific comment (click the “reply” link) allows you to chain your discussions instead of having to refer back to a post number, like we used to do.

And, technically, the conversation on a post should really be relavent to that post. We used to jumble all converstions into the most recent blog post, which got confusing.

As with all new things, it will take a little getting used to but I’m sure you’ll get the hang of it and, as you said, won’t look back.

I know I have to check site every hour or I fall behind.. This site was the deal before, but it is hands down the best now..

I love the merger as well

I was a lurker at Boys Blog and loved Raffy and Raul’s engaging and informative analysis. I’m a light-posting regular here though, and to get all of the threads on one blog is a lazy Cowboy fan’s dream.

Cowboy fans, unite.

Another BB /BSR man moves over

Not a blog man until I came across the old Boys Blog. Blogs not a big thing in my age group YA KNOW? — born in the late 50s —

But this is so much better insight and deeper analysis than anything main stream I became a believer. Still do not get to any other blogs.

Just read the news on the DC official web page and here. And the draft countdown site after the season and throgh the draft.

Keep up the good work gents, ya got an ol man hooked.
