Someone must loose for the boys to make it…

That was a nice win last night.  The ‘boys did to the Skins essentially what the skins did to them in week 4.  When the Skins won at Texas stadium they  had a huge time consuming drive that effectively ate up most of the 4th quarter and left the ‘boys down by two scores w/ nowhere near enough time pull off the comeback.  Well, it was nice to give the skins a taste of their own medicine in this one by eating up that last 6 minutes plus to close out the win.  I hope that the defense continues to play like this, (and call the types of stunts and coverages they did last night) because it won’t be long before the offense gets into a groove.  As they get healthy this team should start rolling up 28 or points a game again…

But wouldn’t it be sad if they were playing the best football in the league by season’s end and missed the playoffs?  It could happen.

I’ve never seen a season before where so many teams had such good records this late in the year.  With the Giants at 9-1 the division title is out of reach.  The NFC north doesn’t matter because the only team going to the playoffs from that mess of a division is the winner.  The west doesn’t matter either as the Cardinals are the only team going from there.  The problem is the NFC south.  The Panthers 8-2, the Bucs 7-3, Falcons 6-4.  The boys really need some of the teams in that division to start loosing, (thank you Denver for beating Atlanta).

The NFC South has alot of games against each other coming up

Let’s hope Carolina beats both Tampa & ATL in their next games against them(Weeks 12 & 14 respectively). Both teams play NO one more time and SD. Let’s hope we get some help in the upcoming weeks, but all in all, Dallas just needs to win….

Car winning out in their div will help out

if dallas can play this way for the remainder of the season I think they will out last the other teams in front of them.

Schedules and tiebreakers

Keeping in mind that fortunes can flip at the drop of a hat, Tampa has a one game lead for the 1st WC spot and has a very reasonable path to 11-5, so I’d be willing to pencil them in for the playoffs.

Forget the NFC West and I think you can rule out the NFC North because they would have to catch the Falcons, ‘Skins, and Cowboys. The Redskins have tough games against the Giants, Ravens, and Eagles left. It’s doubtful that they lose to any of the Bengals, Seahawks, Niners. The last WC spot will probably go to a 10-6 team, so the Skins would have to lose two of those tough games, preferably to the Eagles and Giants to worsen their division record for tiebreaker purposes. In this scenario the ’Boys would have to go 4-2 the rest of the way (which is a tall order given the schedule) and beat either the Eagles or Giants to beat out Washington by virtue of better division record.

Atlanta is 4-3 against the NFC compared to Dallas’ 4-4 so obviously they have 1 more NFC game than the ‘Boys the rest of the way. They’ve got two teams against teams over .500 (Carolina and TB), 2 games against .500 teams (NO and Minnesota), and 2 games against sub-.500 teams (Rams and SD). If both teams somehow finish at 10-6 with identical NFC marks, then the Cowboys will likely win because of better winning percentage between common opponents.

All of this points to the Cowboys needing to go at the very least 4-2 in the remaining 6 games. To take it a step further, they can only afford one more loss in the NFC. Assuming the Cowboys can pull out wins over S.F. and Seattle, that means they have to beat the Giants at home or the Eagles on the road. Like I said, tall order, but it’s not out of the question. Certainly this is a lot of speculating on my part, but it seems to be the most likely of scenarios to me.

I actually think it’s the Bucs

Who are going to win the south. The Panthers are the team I think could loose a lot down the stretch. I don’t’ think they’re anywhere near as good as their record and I can see them loosing to the Giants, Bucs (a second time), Atlanta, Green Bay, & Minnesota. I can actually see them finishing as bad as 9-7 after an 8-2 start.

The Bucs I think will finish somewhere between 11-5 & 12-4. Not sure about Atlanta but I’m leaning towards 10-6. The Redskins will probably finish between 10-6 & 11-5.

I really think the ‘boys have got to go 5-1 at worst over the last 6 games & finfish 11-5. I’m not sure 10-6 gets in this year.

Agreed

Cowboy have to go 5-1 or better. We might luck out and make the playoffs at 10-6, but it would be relying on luck. If we get to 11-5, we’ll make it somehow. That is a tall order, which is why you have to follow the cliche and take it one game at a time.

Well said...

And with that I’m already a little worried about the 49ers… :(

They're basically in the playoffs now.

They have to pretty much win out and then keep rolling come postseason. In my mind, the playoffs started for them last night. Any loss is going to hurt real bad, but they control their own destiny, they just have to win.

That's what I mean.

I don’t mean they are guaranteed the playoffs, I meant that they have to consider each game a playoff game. They could afford about 4 losses this year, and they used those up.

I see the Boys going 6-0 the rest of the way....and over taking the G men for the division title...

how’s that for optimism ??

Love to see that happen

but the Giants are playing so well right now I just don’t see them falling that far. They completely dominated a very good Ravens defense. Their O-line is playing great and their trio of running backs is scary. Damn I hate praising the G-men but they deserve it.

unbeatable?

They have a loss already, Cincy had them in OT, and Philly took them to the wire..

Giants can be beat.. Healthy Romo and Newman and we will be all over them..

I'm of the thinking

that Atlanta and Washington are both going to come back down to earth. Washington hasn’t been playing well for weeks and I don’t see that changing. Hell, with how the Bungles have played our division it wouldn’t surprise me if they kept it close or even beat them. Atlanta is still young and has a semi tough schedule and a rookie quarterback that will eventually show he’s still a rookie. They’ve got a decently tough schedule as well. When the dust settles, I envision the Giants, Packers, Cardinals and Bucs as division champs with the Panthers and our Cowboys as wildcards (this hinges completely on Dallas doing their part and winning at least 5 of their games). Carolina has a good defense and good rushing attack, but I see their frailties coming back to bite them in the remaining weeks which will allow the Bucs to overtake them. If that doesn’t happen then I see them flipping with Carolina being division champs and the Bucs being the wildcard.

we win 11 games, we're a lock to get a WC

and I think you mean lose, not loose.
