State of the Cowboys & our Blogs

As an introduction to some and a normal event to those who know me, I'm Fighter15.  Most on these blogs know me, but for those who don't, here's a self-assessment.  I'm the most optimistic 'Boys apologist on the planet.  And unashamed.

With the merging of clearly the two best Cowboys blogs, I'm coming out of a semi) self-imposed moratorium.  Best thing to happen to the internet since free porn.

So where are we with our 'Boys?  Summertime dominance and dreams of perfect seasons now dashed; the question is: Do we suck? or Are the 'Boys of the new millinium ("Naughty Boys" anyone?) ever going to fullfill their immense potential?

In short, this season is going according to Hoyle.  Other than the rash of injuries, this team is going through a normal progression to being great.  As Big Bill used to say, "You've gotta get hit in the mouth before you can tell what your made of..." or something close.

This team was being handed the next great Cowboys dynasty label the first part of this year.  Hell, I was ringing the bell on this bandwagon.  Problem was, that they could never put it all together.

Offense is fine.  Not having Romo is deadly.  They simply need to find their rythym and get everyone healthy.  Sure, there is a rash of inconsistencies that's killing this group.  Penalties, poor blocking, yada...yada...yada.  There's still one uncontestable truth...this team has more talent than any other in the NFL.  Romo, Barber, T.O., Roy Williams, El Gato, Witten, Davis, Martellus,...geez, it's obcene the individual talent here.  And yet they haven't played a game together since week 3.

Defense has been disappointing, but Wade is right about one thing.  The last 3 or 4 games have been a dramatic improvement.  But once again, the loss of Newman, Roy Willy, and Pacman hurt.  That's 3 all-pro DBs out.  But the great news was that we got great experience for our two rookies who both look like future superstars.

And that has to be the theme for the rest of the season.  Time to gel is now.  Get everyone back, reset the clock, and just beat the snot out of everyone.  Don't care about the "style points", just smack the living shit out of the opponent in front of you.  Win as a team and not just survive, but prosper.

I just see the rest of this season as the making of a champion, honed by fire.  Nothing has happened this year to shake my undying belief that this is still the best team in the NFL.

Looking forward to more of your posts Fighter15

I’m not the most optimistic person in real life you’ll ever run across. But I’ve been watching NFL long enough to know a good feeling about a team from a bad one and this team gives me a very good feeling. If we can just get over the cusp and get the “swagger” back and make it a more permanent feeling then the sky’s the limit as far as I’m concerned!

nice to see another pollyanna on this site

I agree, the Cowboys are the best team in the league when they want to play, and here’s hoping they are gelling at the right time.

Good to see your still around

This post reminds me why I missed your comments on the BSR. I too am an iternal optimist. I could not agree more with your belief that this seasons sets up to be a Championship run if the Boys play to there talent/potential.

Before the Washington game I thought the team should treat that game and the remainder of the season as a playoff games. So when I hear Tony echo those comments after the game I knew the veterans on the team really understood the urgency of the game and the season.

I believe there is an outside chance this team can run the table, for this to happen they got to get the ball rolling by winning these next two games.

Hope to see more of your post in the future.

So you definitely see a 12-4 season, right?

Better be nothing less from you, LOL.

As a side note, in reference to the old site’s habit of posting “First” for no apparent reason, it’ll be interesting to see if that tradition will overcome the initial resistance here!
I went back to the old site and posted “Last” (haha) and a couple of us had a battle trying to be the “Last!” We’ll never know……

Of course

Realistically, 11-5 gets us into the tournament (as Big Bill used to say), but I see no reason why they shouldn’t go 12-4.

SF & Seattle are reeling with bad/rookie QBs and little talent. Pitts will come after a mini-bye and they are most definitely offensively challenged. Same for Baltimore with a rookie QB.

Gints & Iggles are the real tough ones and there is no reason why we can’t win them both. We’ve got NY at home and we’re simply better than the Iggles.

12-0, bay-bee!

Good to see the "Fighting Eagle" here

I can see 12-4 rather easily, in fact. The only hump is the Giants, of course. They are damn good. But Philly is self-destructing (though they are capable of getting it up for us), Seattle should be a cake-walk, Pittsburgh will be likely a grind-it-out game with a few big plays (which we are the most capable of on offense-we can stop their offense), and Baltimore is decent but Flacco is about all they have on offense.

We also face Pittsburgh and Philly at their places and possibly weather will be a factor. I can see those games being played close to the vest, like the Skins game last week, but we proved we can win those.

The other games are in (relatively) balmy Texas Stadium, so we can let it rip on Offense. I think the Giants game will be a shootout, and the others at TS will be blowouts.

So, 4-1 at worst. 12-4 if we can slow Eli and Brandon down for a couple plays (grumblegrumbleJenkinsgrublegruble). And 11-5 is probably our floor if we keep up the current pace of productivity, and they definitely still have room for improvement.

Can't Get Too High

I get sky high and then I think back to the loss to St. Louis. No team in this league can be taken lightly. Not even Seattle.Pittsburg should tell us where we are.

When we get further down the road every media jerk in the world will pop up to say Wade and Romo have never won a playoff game.Get ready for it.

One reason for optimism is the recent play of Roy E. Williams and Patrick Crayton in freeing up TO.

Maybe Jones comes back and helps in the return game but in reality I don’t expect much of anything from him.

11 – 5 will be nice.

As an aside what ever happened to the huge guard we signed a few weeks past?

fine?

One line in here, the Offensive line is fine, well so is china and crystal and it is also fragile. Tell me the last time we punched up 150 yards in rushing,,,,okay, 100 yards??? Inconsistent means a guy slips through once in 5 or 6 plays and even then the other consistent guys stop him from being a factor (ie=witness the Giant’s O-line). Look back on our teams of the past that you knew would win. It all started with being about to RUSH the ball but we can’t.
I think our issues have come because, for whatever reason(s), our O-line is just not getting it done. Watch the penetrations on a regular basis. Count the yards up the middle or where the back didn’t Make it happen; those are the signs that the Offense is doing its job regularly and well. Another sign is that the passing game can mask a poor line. Check out our last game against the 49ers, every long play came because Romo avoided someone giving TO another second to two seconds to gain separation. That was not the O-line’s dominance it was Romo. Then when the passing is causing the defense to be in pass mode we can scratch a few rush yards out, but in this year’s version of O-line performances it is Never the other way around. AND if we try to run first and it gets stuffed then we become single phased knowing that the pass must save and sustain us (which then the defense knows and can pin their ears back).
So I say Fix the Offensive Line and we will crush people!!! That’s the Christmas present I am looking for especially as we prepare to face the Giants in a couple of weeks.

we can, but

We abandon the run to early to be just a pure run team.. Tough to stick with the run with TO, Witten, and Romo..

I much prefer the old site and format. Just cannot like this one.

Kinda agree

It’s tough to keep up with the conversations since there are so many going on at once.

The authored threads are incredible for information and analysis, but the comments seem to “go off” on tangents and it makes it tough to debate any one point.

Guess that’s why I made this fanpost to see how it would work. Let’s give it our all…we know we have the best fans and we’ll just have to make this work.
