Around SBN: Why Hockey Fans Should Root For Devils Vs. Kings

A post about nothing

OK, I didn't have a chance to write up the Film Review yet although I actually did watch the game and take the notes. I'll try to get that up today sometime.

Wow, I didn't think posting the Mike Jenkins video would get such a rise out of a few people. I just thought it was a lackluster effort that kind of symbolized a lackluster effort by the Cowboys in the first half of the season. I like Mike Jenkins, I think he's got a bright future, heck, he was one of the guys I constantly projected that we'd draft. Really, it wasn't meant to be that big of a deal. I didn't even dog him out all that much about it.

I like this FanPost by Nelson... who says something I've been trying to say for a long time on this blog.

...but I'm at the point where I don't even want to view the comments section here anymore. You guys need to chill. Spending all day telling each other how blind and clueless they are is really getting ridiculous.

Bravo. There are a few guys, and they know who they are because I've talked to them about it before, who think this is their personal playpen to argue with each other in tiny little "comment" wars where they try to say how much smarter they are than the other guy. I frickin' hate that and created this blog for people to discuss the Cowboys in an environment that is free of that childish crap.

Look, I don't mind anybody writing about why they're mad at the Cowboys right now or any of that stuff, but when someone writes they're a fake fan for that or they should be an Eagles fan or whatever, that's pure junk. Not everybody roots for their team in the same way. On the other hand, if you want to be optimistic all the time, want to be the ultimate "homer," that's cool, too. Let people say what they want and quit telling them how they should think. You can disagree with what they write, but don't question people's motives.

It's so easy; question the message but not the messenger.

(I hate being a jerk like this but I don't want to see this blog go the way of so many forums and blogs before it have gone.)

OK, back to Cowboys stuff.

I promise to have the Film Review up sometime today. I'll also write up what changes I think the Cowboys can make to turn around this season. I'm still not positive we can do it, but I know we have the talent to do it. Whether it will happen is an open question that we won't know until we start playing again.

Usually I hate bye weeks, I love watching football, especially Cowboys' football. But this bye week is sorely needed. Not only for getting the injured guys back, but because this team needs to recharge their batteries and get their minds right. Same goes for the coaching staff. So the bye week is just fine with me.

Amen to this post.

I haven’t even viewed a lot of the posts. The headings that end in double exclamation points I dont even bother with. I cant handle all this negativity, and irrational ideas.

The Cowboys dont need to fire anybody, or cut anybody, or sign anybody, or run the Wildcat. They need to dig deep, and play like they really love the man next to them.

People say that this team will not magically turn around. Well you know what, teams sometimes to just turn around out of the blue. It can happen. And if this team really hits its potential, forget 5-2 down the stretch. They can run the table. All it’s gonna take is, desire, focus, and execution.

This thing can turn around. I would rather pull for that to happen, then throw people under the bus, and speculate about the state of a locker room and front office that I have never been inside.

well said Glory

To say a team can’t turn it around, especially with so much talent is ridiculous, of course this team can turn it around.

It all starts with getting healthy and refocusing and re-energizing. They have to apprach each game like a playoff game and they’ll be fine.

Add me to the amen section.

To all of it, but especially the latter.

I think the fans need this bye week as much as the players. We aren’t physically hurt (unless tunahelper broke his foot booting the tv on Sunday), but our hopes for our ’boys are certainly battered and bruised.

I can only imagine that those same ‘boys must be feeling it worse than us. They all want to win, but obviously can’t seem to find the answer. I have to think there might be a few of them questioning each others’ motives and popping off at each other, too (as witnessed a couple of times in the game). This will only get worse without the emergence of strong leadership from somewhere.

Fear is just frozen adrenaline.

Grizz I appreciate

your concern for this site in trying to avoid the same fate that plagues a lot of blogs. The Jerry Springer syndrome of just a complete circus of outrageous comments and no real discussion. I like this site because I can voice my opinion and see who has a take on that opinion. I would like to see a little more levity, its just a game afterall; there are guys that I know that let their entire world revolve around the boys and this year will be especially trying for them. After the game I have trimmed down how many sports sites I visit because I know its full steam a head on the hatin of all things cowboys; and have stopped watching any BSPN. The only think that I would watch right now is the local FSN football preview and recap shows that have Nate Newton. DFW Sports Beat sucks, Brady Tinker gets on my nerves, he is like a local ed werder; always looking for the smarmy see I told you so angle. Do not worry Grizz, it will take more than a few bad eggs for me to stop wanting to come over to this site. I have always followed the motto on my signature, and I have been okay, not that I am happy but I am not going to let how this team performs affect how I am with my loved ones or my work. I love this team and I still believe in them, but they still have to go out there and show that they can do it on the field; the next game with the skins will be a good test if Tony is back. Until that game I will hold off all reservations and judgements about the team’s season until after I see how they do on sunday night.

Ditto and well said

There’s a tendency for people to behave badly because of their anonymity, a sort of internet mob mentality and I just can’t read most of it. It’s hard because we all have learned in a lifetime to pay close attention to what others are saying, but the ridiculousness just makes you shake your head in wonder.

I would argue too if I got personally attacked every time I posted my positive belief in my team’s starting QB.

I don't mind...

people arguing about the content of a post. It’s a beautiful thing to be able to do that in this, the greatest country in the world.

Having said that, once the discussion becomes personal, all of the good that comes out of interactive discussion is eroded.

The Cowboys are great. The Cowboys are awful. Whichever side of the argument you sit on, we have to remember that all bloggers are created equal.

One of the great things about this blog is the ability for whatever opinions you hold, your voice can be heard in a reasonable fashion. Unlike some blogs, the conversation here hasn’t usually degenerated into “you suck, no YOU suck, well YOU super-suck” which was a great reason for coming here.

I’m still gonna come to BTB, but I’ll take the commenting with a grain of salt.

How Bout Them Cowboys!

Here is my take....

I’ll state my opinion on our cowboys. We NEED to win the Redskin game period, to have any kind of a chance of making the playoffs. If we lose to the Redskins we are not making the playoffs. I’ll bet the house on it. We would be 5-5, basically 3 games behind the Redskins and all but out of the playoffs barring a meltdown by everyone in the division. I predict a 8-8 season if we lose the Redskin game. If you think it’s bad now wait and see what kind of circus it will be if we come out and play flat against the Redskins. Wade better have his A game come next Sunday.

Look up... get up...Don't ever, ever give up!!

I'm glad you changed your position

from there is no way we’re making to playoffs to we have to beat the Redskins to have a shot. Thats been my position ever since Romo went down. I knew if we were at least 5-4 heading into this game we had a good shot.

Cowboys absolutely must approach this game like a playoff game, they cannot hold anything back. It’s definitely balls to the walls.

I was trolling the Philly site the other day

in an effort to scout Kevin Curtis for my FF team and found out how much I appreciate that I am not only a Cowboys fan, but also a member of BTB.
They have FanPosts discussing the hotness level of Megan Fox and they had some pretty sexually harassing comments about the comments of one of their female bloggers.
For the most part, the passion that drives this site revolves around the Cowboys—and more importantly, how the Cowboys can get those all important wins.

I agree, I have yet to see

another site that has the same volume of posts or comments from any other SB nation fan site of any other NFL team. That tells me the same thing, we are a devoted group, a passionate group, and I am proud to be a part of this group.

I’d post pics of Jessica, but with her dating Romo—I feel like she’s my sister or something.

Not to get off the subject

but on this mornings talking cowboys a caller suggested fines for penalties. Does anyone else think that might work? I think it has some potential unless the team is so tired of getting fined that they hold back to avoid penalties.

and the guy with the most penalties per game has to pay for everybody’s room service during road games.

a few good rules of thumb

In addition to what has already been said in this post, here are two good rules of thumb that I try to follow:

1. I’ve been on this site for several years now, and I can almost count on one hand the number of opinions that are absurd, ridiculous and don’t have a grain of truth or logic to them. Simply skip those. There is no need to start calling the opinions of others absurd, ridiculous, stupid, etc. Remember, that guy (or girl) feels he/she is right just as strongly as you feel he/she is wrong. If you don’t agree with it, counter with a rational reason; don’t simply discount it as having no value whatsoever.

2. This just in from the Department of Redundancy Department: before you are about to hit the post button, stop and think:

 - Have I posted this thought before in this thread?
 - Am I adding anything new to the discussion?
 - Have I posted this thought on six different threads since last Monday?

With few exceptions, nobody needs to be reminded for the second, fifth, ninth, fifteenth or eighty-second time that you think Pac Man Jones is not an upstanding citizen. Reminding us once a week or so of your view will suffice. I have crafted a fair number of posts but subsequently deleted them because I realized it was simply restating my position from an earlier post. People here are pretty smart and will get your point the first time.

Thanks Grizz for all your good work in both managing this blog and contributing to it. Even if it is a labor of love, I’m sure it takes enormous time and effort.

Regarding Jenkins Grizz

you’re 100% correct, that lackluster effort has symbolized the way the Cowboys have played this season, no question.

I didn’t like the pick when we drafted him, thought Antoine Cason was the better player, but there is no question Cason has the better character and attitude.

Here is what Jenkins had to say about the play.

I was just waiting on the safety to make a play," Jenkins said. “It just looked different. I really can’t explain it.”

When pressed, Jenkins said he thought he might knock down LB Kevin Burnett if he cut Ward’s legs out from under him. That would seem to be a better alternative than letting Ward prance into the end zone. Would he do anything different if that situation presented itself again?

“I’d say go get the tackle,” said Jenkins, who is well aware that he’s been criticized for avoiding contact over the last few days. “That’d be the right answer.”

Well, it sure looked like he intentionally avoided contact. When asked if that was the case, Jenkins said, “That’s what it looked like. That’s your eyes. If that’s what you seen, that’s what you seen.” And then he threw a teammate under the bus, too.

“I wasn’t the only one there,” Jenkins said. “Everybody’s pointing it out like it was me, but there was a safety back there, too.”

The safety was Courtney Brown, who has made a grand total of two tackles all season despite getting significant playing time. A wait on Brown to make a play could last more than a month.

CB Anthony Henry said some veterans got on Jenkins immediately after the play about his effort. Jenkins said nobody had said anything to him. Well, was his effort acceptable?

“Obviously not,” Jenkins said, “because y’all are going to have your own opinion, no matter what.”

http://cowboysblog.dallasnews.com/archives/2008/11/mike-jenkins-i-was-just-waiting-on-the-s.html

Waiting for the safety to make the play! You gotta be kidding.
If he wasn’t a 1st rd pick and we didn’t have so many injuries at CB, I’d cut his azz if I was coaching this team. That attitude is totally unacceptable at the professional level.
