Thinking about Pacman

Since it's the bye-week. I thought I'd delve into something thats been hanging around my brain.

Something occurred to me the other day. Nothing earth shaking, nothing that improves my Cowboys depression, but still it made me stop and think. It occurred to me that Pacman is in rehab. Not at home with an ankle bracelet or at the mall with a bodyguard, he is in rehab (or at least was).

But big deal right? He got forced into it, he blew his fourth or fifth chance and got sent there for treatment as an ultimatum. He probably didn't come up with the idea, and may not even feel like he needs it.  He may be wasting his time there, but, and forgive this little bit of drama, it may be saving his life.

I don't care if he ever plays for Dallas again, let me make that clear. As far as I'm concerned he let his team down and I wouldn't blame the team for not welcoming him back, but, all the evidence points to the fact that he has a problem with alcohol and needs help to get past it. I'm not making that statement on a whim, and I don't think they would have sent him for this type of treatment if it weren't somewhere at the core of his issues.

I'm not an alcoholic, but I do know what it's like to be dependent on something. I know what it's like to give into a compulsion against all good judgement and I know what it's like to be the center of blame when the dust has settled. I bet a few of us on this blog know what thats like. I don't pity the guy or feel like he is fighting something totally outside his control, so please don't misinterpret what I'm saying. Essentially, I'm happy the guy is getting help rather than a bodyguard. He is no doubt a knuckle head who failed to appreciate the chance he was given, but reinstatement or no, this could be a real positive in his life. As mad as I am at the guy, I find myself happy for him in that respect.

Now, if only they had rehab for being a knucklehead!

Well like I said

I don’t care if he plays for Dallas ever again. To be honest I really hope he does not. Look, once he got suspended, and some of the details about the “jiving around” started to come out, I stopped looking at him as a potential player and more just as somebody who obviously cannot get it right.

Anyhow I wouldn’t have gotten into this if this weren’t a bye week. Just saying, for what its worth, I’m happy for the dude that he is getting treatment rather than being told to keep a low profile.

I just watched a documentary on Snoop Dogg last week

and one of the main interviewees was Willie McGinest, who grew up around the drama that surrounded Snoop, Warren G, Nate Dog, Tupac.
There was some shady stuff going on in the LBC then, and McGinest steered clear of it and made a great career for himself.
PacMan is partying with guys that have already made it and he still can’t stay outta trouble.
How many of us would sell our left nut to sign with the Cowboys, or to have the talent that Pac has, er, had?
I’d be kicking it with a broad or two at home watching film instead of being at some rap album release party or some skanky Vegas strip club.
Choices—that’s a good book.

George Teague did it all.

Well find out soon enough.....

Like I said….he will be back especially if Newman is not on track to come back soon. Alot may depend on if we win or lose the Washington game.

Look up... get up...Don't ever, ever give up!!

Newman is practicing and will likely start

against the Skins. Pacrat returning depends on one thing and one thing one only…..Roger Goodell.

Yeah - Hey it's all on him

I don’t defend one thing he ever did. Just saying he obviously doesn’t need a bodyguard right now, and he’ s lucky the league has a vested interest in helping him overcome his addictions. On that level, I’m rooting for the guy.

Nice post

As pissed as I was at Pac for screwing up, I hope he can turn it around and live his life as a man, not a punk who pisses chances away. I would welcome him back to the cowboys if all the steps are passed through because rehab, if taken seriously, can be the one thing that gets through to him when nothing else has seemed to.

I also would not want to close the door on his playing career because the guy has been playing ball forever and if that is taken away, the temptation to make really bad choices would be overwhelming.

nice post, and a good human interest story...

I wonder how much of the problem was the liquor.

I wonder if the liquor goes, the crazy behavior goes?

I dont care if he plays for the Cowboys again or not, but I want to see dude get it together before he really does something bad.

I’d sure love to see him returning punts and kickoffs for us down the stretch. But I wouldnt count on it.

I think that too

And I think he’s got to do some serious work in that area. I wonder if he ever speaks with his ex-teammate Haynesworth? He’s attended a few anger management sessions…

I doubt alcohol is the whole problem, but if it is a factor (and I def. think it is) then more power to him and anyone helping him if he can somehow get control of it/get past it – not to play football just to move on with his life.

Anyhow now I stopped thinking about Pacman and started thinking about how the media is going be tripping over themselves to explain the thrashing Dallas lays on Washington next Sunday!

In every instance he's gotten into trouble with the law....alcohol was involved....

I’ve known guys throughout the years that became beligerant, and hostile every single time they drank booze…I can’t say it’s his only problem…..but you eliminate booze, and i am quite sure he’s able to make sound decisions and determinations as to wheather he wants to continue to make millions as a sports celebrity, and be a productive citizen, or he wants to end up penniless in the gutter with his delinquiant entourage. Get rid of the booze and the old neighborhood friends….and there is a chance…..I welcome him back to the Cowboys……..and yes.,,,,this would be the LAST straw…

Pacman

As a Titans fan pacman was my favorite player when he was a titan… I hate that he is no longer a titan. If Fisher had tried to get him help he might still be a titan. I think "IF " he can turn it around you would be lucky to have him. He has alot of talent and done great as a titan…( on the field ). If he gets put out it will be a great loss.
