BIG 12 Debacle
I know this isn't a college football site or anything like that, but I'm sure there are a lot of Texas and even TT fans who post on this site, I was just wondering if anybody had any thoughts on what going on right now in the Big 12. As you know, Texas, Texas Tech, and Oklahahoma all finished the Big 12 south with identical records. Texas tech beat Texas on a last second play at home, Texas beat Oklahoma by 10 at a neutral site, and Oklahoma beat TT by 44 at home. To settle this, the highest ranked BCS team (Oklahoma) will play for the BIG 12 title and a shot at the Nat'l Title as well.
I just saw that during the season Texas played 4 straight games against Oklahoma (ranked #1), Missouri (ranked #11), Ok. State (ranked #6), texas tech (ranked #7) and they would have won if not for a wild catch n run by Crabtree.
considering this schedule and the fact that they BEAT OU at a neutral site, how in the world is Texas not playing for the BIG 12 title?

Because
of voters who are stupid. Since OU beat a few teams, scoring 60 points in the process, that somehow makes up for the fact that they lost to Texas.
Head to head games don’t mean anything in college football, which is one reason why i can’t really be a huge fan of it.

Another season
another team gets ripped off.
Of course, it may not matter, because I don’t know if any team can beat Alabama at this point.

Answer me this Texas fans:
If Texas should get in because they beat OU, shouldn’t TT feel just as slighted because they beat Texas?

No!
TT beat TEX on a last second play. TT got TOASTED by OK. Add to that the fact that, knowing it might come down to voters and rankings, TT STILL almost lost to Baylor. OK just gave op 40+ points to OK ST, TX gave up 9 and won by 40 against A&M. I think it’s pretty plain who got hosed here. It may not matter, because Missouri is clearly capable of beating OK, which would put TX in the title game anyhow.

Yes!
Don’t start bringing up point spreads in this, because your logic falls flat. TT got smoked by OU and TT barely beat UT. UT barely beat OSU in Austin, but OU lit up OSU in Stillwater. A&M lost to UT by 40 and to OU by 38. Is this really what the BCS has come to?
Each of the 3 teams is justified in representing the South division and only a previously voted on tie-breaker (#5) allowed this to take place. If OU loses to OSU, then TT is going to KC and UT is not. If TT then beats MU it could be playing for the National Championship.
Interesting “big win” fact based on current rankings: #1 Alabama W against #16 Georgia; #4 Florida W against #16 Georgia/L to unranked UM; TT W’s against #3 UT and #14 OSU/L to #2 OU; UT W’s against #2 OU, #20 MU, and #14 OSU/L to #7 TT; OU W’s against #13 CIN, #11 TCU, #7 TT, and #14 OSU/L to #3 UT.

crazy
The team you beat gets in over you? doesn’t make sense
Wouldn’t be as big of deal if there was a College football playoff..
right now it would be
1 Bama vs 8 Penn State
4 Florida vs 5USC
2 Ok vs. 7 Texas Tech
3 Texas vs 6 Utah
Let’s do it..

I completely agree
I would say it would then be Bama Vs USC, and a Red River Rematch.
Then a Texas Vs. USC rematch for the Nat’l title.

Texas got screwed
I’m an OSU fan, I don’t like TX or OU, and it isn’t fair that out of the two teams with identical records, the one that owns the tie breaker in head to head play on a neutral site doesn’t get the nod. The computers have too much power.
I like that all this discussion is going on about it. Anything that pushes the NCAA to adopt a playoff format and throw out this lame Bowl series is good. How much better is the NCAA basketball tourney? That is must see TV. Pick the top 16 teams and go at it. 4 weekends and done. It would finish at the same time as the current system.

Playoff will never happen
Too much money tied up in the BCS. Especially now that the Worldwide Leader in Sports Misinformation just signed a deal with the BCS starting in 2010.

WHAT IF
Mizzou wins……
then you’ll have Texas jump up to #2 in the BCS and they will play the winner of the SEC (either Bama or UF) in the National Title game, and Yet they didn’t win their own conference. Iif that happens then USC who will jump to #3 won’t play for the national title and yet they WON their conference!!
I honestly pray that Mizzou pulls the upset, let’s see all the BCS supporters wiggle theri way out of this. Each year it seems the BCS gets bailed out, but if Mizzou wins all hell will break lose. I know a playoff won’t happen anytime soon, but a Missouri win could open a lot of eyes

that is another problem
How can some BCS conferences have title games and some don’t?

Whose eyes AREN’T open at this point? It’s a mess every damn season unless two teams end the season undefeated like in 2005.

watch
Espn there are still a ton of analysts and “experts” who believe the BCS is the best thing right now and that a playoff isnt necessary, many school presidents (of course looking for $$$$) still claim the BCS is the best thing for CFB and that a playoff would make the seaon too long and possibly wear down “students”….. a huge disaster like what could happen if MIZZ wins would be undeniable proof that the BCS is a joke and even the biggest BCS supporters would have to take a step back… thats all i meant

I would have a lot more respect for Texas
if they didn’t whine so much and didn’t start that ridiculous PR campaign using the same head to head logic that would put Texas Tech above them.
And enough about a last second win. Tech owned UT in the first half and if not for a BS flag pick up that negated two block in the back penalties on Shipley’s punt return for a TD, the game would not have come down to Crabtree making a typical play for himself.
