How Bad Was Romo Against the Steelers?

  • Opening drive; 3rd and 8; Romo tries to throw a ball to Owens, intercepted by Palamaulo.  Pitt starts first drive at own 48 as a result.
  • 2nd and 9; 15:00 to go 2nd Quarter; Choice is wide open in the flat, Romo throws ball low; Choice dives and rolls for 8 yards
  • As a result of the bad pass to Choice and a miss on 3rd and 2, Cowboys go for it on 4th and 2.  Romo throws way over a wide open Owens.  Ball to Pitt.
  • 11:36 left in the 2nd Quarter.  2nd and 8; Romo overthrows (I mean not even Close!) Witten.  Next play:  Romo gets sacked, fumbles ball.  Pitt takes over at Cowboy 44.
  • 5:30 left in the 2nd Quarter; First play of a drive starting at the eight yard line.  Romo forces a fade to Owens.  Its under thrown.  Ike Taylor picks it off. Steelers take over at the 23.  Dallas defense holds to a FG.  I put these 3 points on Romo.
  • 6:33 left in the 4th.  7 point lead.  2nd and 9.  Romo back to pass, 4 man rush, Romo lets pocket collapse around him which makes it 3rd and 15 (its looks like he has the checkdown to Choice on this play).  Cowboys go three and out on this critical drive.
  • 2nd and 8.  Ball on the 17 yardline.  Romo throws pick-six to Townsend.  I put these 7 points on Romo and Witten.
  • The final drive 4 and out:  what can I say.

I hate to beat a dead horse, but it really is amazing that he could play this bad.

Not trying to make excuses...

…but I wonder if having to adjust — to no longer having the split for his pinkie — played a part in his poor accuracy last Sunday.

Just a thought.

Thought the same thing not to mention

the wind was a lot more of a factor than anyone cares to admit. And Pitts’ defense is the best in the NFL in case anyone was wondering. We play this game again in better weather and I think we win. After all, the fans and analysts use that angle BEFORE the game all the time. Now I know why.

The wind was brutal for (a very injured) Roethlisberger too

How come he didn’t throw an INT?

Just go back one week

And you’ll see that Matt Cassel had his worst game against the Steelers as well, (and this was after back to back 400 + yard performances). Point is that EVERY QB has looked terrible against this defense. They are simply that good. They don’t just out-physical their opponent they also confuse them.

Personally I thought Romo’s decision to play the game without long-sleeves was stupid. Especially considering he spent a ton of time trying to warm up on the sideline.

Quite simply, the elements were hugely in Pittsburgh’s favor. If the Cowboys were to be so lucky as to face this team again in the super bowl it would be in a completely different setting. Unlike the Pittsburgh environment which favors the tougher more head strong to the cold team; a place like Tampa will be very warm and humid and favor the more athletic team that has more endurance in the heat; advantage Dallas.

I'm tired of the excuses

I love Romo and I believe he has the potential to be a top 5 quarterback in the league, with that being said… The steelers game is on him and his inability to get the ball where it needed to be. 4 out of 5 turnovers were all results of him being inaccurate or not holding on to the ball, is that a result of him getting the splint off (you would think not but who knows).

Romo and JG need to realize that TO and Witten are not his only options at receiver, Roy is getting one on one coverage with a number two corner and who knows who there throwing on Crayton and Austin. We have the most balanced (personnel wise) pass and run offense in the league, we should be capable of moving the ball against any team in the league, even the “steel curtain”.

The Cowboys units ( offense and defense) need to stop relying on one another and start playing for pride, they pay to much attention to the score board and whether the other is doing their job, just do your job and leave it all out on the field the score board will take care of itself. My old ball coach used to tell me at half time as we were going back out on the field, regardless of the score, " It’s a new half, new game 0-0", whether your up by 30 or down by 30, play the half like it 0-0.

" high and tight Martellus, high and tight."

no question the worse game of his career

and I contribute a lot of it to his hand that he broke being subjected to brutal cold, the ball wasn’t coming out of his hand well on a consistent basis.

And facing one of the very the best defenses in the last 10 years didn’t help either.

that was actually one of his best games

because after all the INTs, he still had the moxy and confidence to lead us to a win, not many qbs could have done that.

I firmly believe the Steelers game was an aberration, and the next three games will decide if I’m right or not.

I fully expected him to at that game.

I turned to the fan next to me and said, “This is Romo’s bread and butter.” Even after the pick six, I said, “He still has 1:40.” Boy was I wrong.

I said the same thing to the Steelers fan behind me

I said, “If the Steelers score too quick, you’re in trouble, because that would give Romo plenty of time to get Folk in position to kick the game winner.”

Boy, did I ever have to eat crow on that one.
