Early games open thread
We have to wait through the one o'clock games and the four o'clock games this week. That's a long day to wait for some Cowboys football. With some solid play and a little good luck it will be worth it.
In the meantime, occupy yourselves with a little Sunday afternoon football.
This is an open thread for all the Sunday games.

ATLANTA — Tampa Bay quarterback Jeff Garcia will not play Sunday against the Atlanta Falcons because of a right calf injury.

Cowboys fan since 1978.. I was 3 years old
assuming we all agree we need to win out.
A Tampa loss is okay too.
Then we’d be ahead of them both.

So who are we rooting for again?
If we win out we are probably in, but whats the scenario if we only go 2-1 down the stretch?
if the falcons won this week,
then lost next week to the vikings, we would still have the tie-breaker if we both went 10-6 right?
Playoff Scenario
So we need the Bucs to pull one out against the Falcons.
What are the implications on the Minnesota/Arizona game?? (and obviously we are rooting for Cleveland to beat Philly.)
Why does everybody want Tampa to win?
They’re one game AHEAD of Dallas. They’re 9-4 people.
They’re last two games are against the Chargers and Raiders. They’re not losing those.
This is their last chance to lose. You want to leapfrog them, root for the Falcons.

We need Atlanta to win this game
They win, we move to the top Wild Card spot with a win tonight, over both TB and Atlanta.

I never like teams that play the second game on the road in two weeks
I like Atlanta regardless if Garcia or Griese is starting.
Grady Jackson is a house
Does that guy qualify for his own bailout?
FOX said Hovan and another interior lineman are out for the Bucs today. Not good against Turner.
Let’s go Bucs!

He fits perfectly with how Parcells and Sparano want to run an offense
run the ball, control the clock, limit the mistakes throwing
No doubt
He’s an excellent fit for that system

Why do we want Tampa to win?
If Tampa loses, we jump ahead of both of them. Atlanta due to better conference record and TB due to head to head.
That of course is assuming a win tonight, which without that none of it matters.
People are in 'worst case scenario mode'
So they’re thinking about protecting the downside. So, if teams we’re tied with or behind us lose, we’re in better shape.
You have a great point, though. If TAM loses and we win, we move to #5 spot.
by PaulFVillarreal on Dec 14, 2008 12:37 PM CST up reply actions
Yeah, it really was
ATL is looking solid, and TAM looks like they’re missing Garcia, the starting interior D lineman (I think both are starters) and may be suffering from the short week and a bit of a Carolina hangover. Still early, though.

…Washington or Buffalo?
by PaulFVillarreal on Dec 14, 2008 12:39 PM CST reply actions
dallas couldgo 2-1 and get in here
however the must win in philly and slpit the next 2 unless atlanta sweeps then u can throw that out the window
Yea but the 1 MUST be against the Ravens if we do lose one
Because conference record is going to be key
well if tampa falls here
they could lose either one of the 2
How do you figure
When we are currently tied with Atlanta, and will then have a worse conference record, and will then be tied with both Chicago and Philly for conference record.
Don’t think about it as just Atlanta and Tampa. Gotta take into account the teams just behind us as well.
You get the feeling
…a lot will come down to the last week in Philly. Not sure I’m feeling great about that possibility right now. Not because I don’t trust the Cowboys but because I don’t want PHI to have any shot at all.
by PaulFVillarreal on Dec 14, 2008 12:41 PM CST up reply actions
If the cowboys lose tonight and Philly wins tomorrow night, it will come down to the last game of the season
could be winner in, loser out
If people think the media's bias is rearing its head this week
…that situation, with media fav McNabb a chance to get in the playoffs, will make this week look like nothing.

I come in peace
there’s no live open thread for the day games at Big Blue View, and I’m only popping in to make fun of the Redskins. How awful are they all of a sudden? I live in DC now, and early in the season their fans and radio hosts were talking about winning the division and being Super Bowl contenders. It’s nice to see that they’re probably gonna be eliminated from playoff contention by the 1-12-1 Bengals….pathetic.

I knew a Bungles win was coming. They have played EVERY NFC East team good this year
And with Washington’s slide, I knew that they probably could win this game.
Yeah that's weird how they are against the NFCEast
and suck against everyone else

by Aaron Novinger on Dec 14, 2008 12:54 PM CST up reply actions
to be fair
I don’t know how well they played Philly, it was more like Philly played them terribly. That was the worst football game I’ve ever watched…but your point stands, they’ve been a tough team to beat for every NFC East team.
That game set the NFL back like 30 years
If PHI doesn’t have a healthy Westbrook, they’re nothing. McNabb’s best days, such as they were, are long gone.

I don't care if we're not the 5th seed
we have to finish ahead of Atl to make the playoffs
In Romo we Trust
Don't forget about Chicago and Philly
Having a tie and not a loss could really hurt us against Philly
Chicago has Green Bay and Houston left
Philly has Cleveland, Washington, and Dallas
If our 1 loss is against Philly we’re screwed, cause they’re not losing again before us.
I know we have to beat Philly
I’m saying if we lose to GMen and beat Balt and Philly, we need Atl to finish 9-7

Sometimes it works to sign one of these talented socialpathic players as free agents, but they are almost always a wasted draft pick because when someone is on their third chance there is some team that wasted a pick in order to give them the first chance.

well, that's your first problem
but if your a cowboy fan long enough, it will become your pastime!!! LOL
We Have to go 3 -0
At the very least we have to beat the Giants tonight.
TB is currently 9-4 playing ATL today with SD and Oak after today.
Dal is currently 8-5 playing NYG tonight with Balt and Phil after today.
ATL is currently 8-5 playing TB today with Minn and ST. Louis after today.
Phil is currently 7-5-1 playing CLE Monday night with Wash and Dallas after today.
Chi is currently 8-6 after beating NO Thursday with GB and Houston after today.
My predictions
TB will go 1 and 2 to finish 10 – 6
Atl will go 3 and 0 to finish 11 -5
Phil will go 2 and 1 to finish 9-6-1
Chi will go 1 and 1 to finish 9 – 7
If we go 3 – 0 That puts us and Atl in with 11-5 records. If we lose one game we would probably be tied with TB and would only win the tie breaker if our loss is against Balt.
My thinking is similar. I think TB will fade. Not sure about the Minnesota Atlanta game.
The odds are is that the last game verse Philly a playoff game. They will win the next two and be 9-5-1 and will have a shot at the wildcard spot even if we win the next two games. If we lose one of the next two we will likely have a shot too. Winner is in, loser goes home.
My gut tells me it will be more like this
TB will go 2-1 to finish 11-5
Dal will go 1-2 to finish 9-7
ATL will go 2-1 to finish 10-6
Phil will go 3-0 to finish 10-5-1
Chi will go 2-0 to finish 10-6
So I guess that means Tampa and Philly get in and we go looking for a new head coach. Still hoping for the best, though.
Lord I hate the Redskins
but they’re going to win this game today, and they’ll probably win going away. Bad teams like Cincy find a way to screw up fast starts like they had today.
Happy to be wrong on this one
Watching the Redskins lose never gets old.
if the Jets lose this football game to the bills
There is goinig to be an all out mutiny in New York
Andre Johnson
has to be the best wideout in the league today. He is also a great pro. Wish he was a Cowboy.
You don't hear about him because he never shoots his mouth off
just acts like a professional week in and week out…
love andre
but i would take calvin johnson over him…look what he has done this year on the most horrible team in history or one of them
He also averages about 11 yards a catch. He might be the best possession reciever in history, but he seldom makes game breaking plays that the best WO make.
I would love to have him as a Cowboy too, but he is not in Fitz’s class or what TO or Moss were when they were at their best.
Some of those numbers can attribute
to him being on a bad team, with mediocre QB’s. 154 yards and TD first half proves he can be a big play WO.
he has 161 yards so far today
Schawb has been injured almost half the year, the hurricane that hit the texas coast really killed their start of the season and Carr had no offensive line in front of him to make plays down the field. Possession receiver , he is not..
I’d take Johnson, calvin or Andre any day over T.O
We just need to win out
Keep our destiny in our hands. I don’t like having to depend on other teams. Or if we back door our way into the playoffs, we go in with no momentum. Just Win Baby!

I'm going out on a limb here
but I think there is a pretty god chance of this game tonight being the highest rated of the football season thus far this year. Is that a reach or WHAT!!!!
Now we'll see what our guys are made of
Atlanta won so the pressure is on for tonight’s game. If we lose, which I don’t expect we will, all hell will break loose in Dallas. Jerry’s entire team building philosophy is on the line. The Cowboys look pretty close to what Jerry thinks a team should look like. The question is, can the team that Jerry built win? I know others had a hand in it, but in the end, this is a Jerry Jones bought and paid for team. I’m dying for this game to start. GO COWBOYS!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
yea
im going crazy waiting for this game to start
we better win
and i hope miles and crayton get more involved cuz that’ll mean we’re spreading the ball around and thus more throws for t.o.

Loss tonight =
Bum’s boy gets fired! I am not sold on Red being any kind of genius. Any OC with this talent could produce a good O. Maybe even a better less predictable one. I would like to see Cowher take control of this group, head coaches need to be the ultimate leader on the team. I also believe if you get Cowher, Lebeau follows! Can you imagine our D with Lebeau at the helm. I mean who is Harrison? Imagine what Ware could do in this scheme!
you cant get Lebeau, it would be considered a lateral move
why would Cowher come here and be controlled by jerry… He’s better served to go to Cleveland
I thought Romo would bounce back after last week and have a good game
but wiht all that went on this week I dont know. Will Romo try to over compensate and throw it more to TO to make him happy whether he’s open or not.
If I were the Giants on offense, I’d spread the cowboys out and attack their depleted secondary, especially the safeties and on denfese, I’d take my most physical corner and punch T.O in the mouth on the line every play and when the play is over push him some more to get him fustrated early and often..
Romo can silence all his critics tonight
including his biggest fans, I can tell you I am hanging on to his shoe strings right know.
Romo cant silence anyone with a win tonight
that will only happen when he wins in the playoffs and takes the team to a superbowl.
He has to cut down on the turnovers
After last weeks performance, I expect him to have a good game tonight
but with all that went on all week, I dont know if that will happen now…
I'm doing everything I can to help secure a win...

Just watched the 1994 Cowboys Giants game
The one where Emmitt dislocated his shoulder. Both teams were really good back then. I enjoyed seeing Darren Woodson flying around at full speed. Irvin and Harper hardly had a catch in the second half or the OT period. It was all Emmitt, Johnson, and Novacek, but mostly Emmitt.

Get ’em Jerry!
nice....what a great fit he would be
plus we could move ratt back to de ….
Barber
DMN are speculating that Barber will go. He is practicing handoffs and swing passes and so far looks good.
Mick says the same...
Did warm ups and is now stretching. Won’t be doing stretches if he was a scratch, I think.
he was working on his cuts to see if he'll give it a go
there is no word yet, I think he’s doubtful by the way he’s walking
Wow, I really need the game to start....
When the ref said " the receiving team can’t advance a muff" I just laughed.

I like big, nasty DTs...Haynesworth would be a big pick-up.
After all, he did apologize for his actions. Gurode could get his revenge everyday in practice!
wow
oakland has already given up 42 points and it still the 3rd qtr
man i wish they were on our schedule
Superbowl or Bust?
Barber will play!
Just heard Barber will play & will start. He looks 100% working out before the game – lets hope that is correct!
great news
we can use him in short yardage situations…like the goaline
but i really want to see choice gets some carries as well especially on wheel routes to abuse antonio pierce
Superbowl or Bust?
I can't really believe this was a game time decision
Betcha anything it was a ruse, they knew this a few days ago…

is it 8 o'clock yet????????
You'll never get in a traffic jam, while going the extra mile. -Roger staubach
I'm hoping Roy Williams doesn't play
Call me crazy but I have to think Crayton wants to get some revenge. Rather see a hungry Crayton than a hobbled Roy who we hardly seem to utilize.
by Captain Comeback on Dec 14, 2008 5:57 PM CST reply actions
utilizing
crayton and austin properly will open up things for everyone else as well
they’re both capable receivers
Superbowl or Bust?
Not looking ahead BUT....
if we can score 10 points next week we will win :)
by Captain Comeback on Dec 14, 2008 6:01 PM CST reply actions
Why oh why
Is this day going sooooooo slow…
They need to test Ross early, try and get TO on him….if he’s hobbled…he becomes target #1
inactives
COWBOYS: 3QB Brooks Bollinger, CB Pacman Jones, S Courtney Brown, RB Alonzo Coleman, LB Steve Octavien, OG Montrae Holland, OG Joe Berger, WR Isaiah Stanback.
GIANTS: K Lawrence Tynes, RB Brandon Jacobs, CB Sam Madison, LB Jonathan Goff, OT Adam Koets, DL Leger Douzable, DE Jerome McDougle, DT Fred Robbins.
i hope
newman doesnt give up a big play today
and im confident in scandrick and jenkins if he plays
hopefully he’ll go towards the guy with the ball instead of away
and i love scandrick also choice, they both give 110% every time they play
Superbowl or Bust?
Well he won't be first ballot
even if Witten did speak to Werder T.O. needs to be a big boy and forget about it for the sake of the team
damnit
ed reed slipped and gave up a 1st down
the clock is winding down if ravens get a stop its probably game over
Superbowl or Bust?
Somehow, some way
Pittsburgh finds a way to rip your heart out at the end of a game.
T.O.'s comments to Barber
Exactly why he shouldn’t be a captain of a football team.
“I’ve been successful everywhere I’ve been”. Sorry TO, most define success (at least here in Dallas) as winning Super Bowls.
“As long as I’ve got my family’s support that’s all I need”. Sad that family support should go unsaid. You get paid millions to be part of a TEAM and try and get their support and support THEM!
we'll win
if we can take the lead early like in the seattle game i have confidence in us coming out with the W
Superbowl or Bust?
yea
damnit i wanted the ravens to win
looks like ravens need a td in 42 seconds to win
and i dont see it happening
Superbowl or Bust?
Pittsburgh gets so lucky
They get outplayed 2 weeks in a row for 95% of the game and get lucky at the end.
In Romo we Trust
ok
ravens have 40 seconds and 50 yards to go with 2 timeouts
and yea ppl bring it to the steelers but they pull out the win cuz the opposing offense just doesnt put up enough
Superbowl or Bust?
i would not call that luck
thats a sign of a very very good team…give them credit and lots of it…….if that was dallas u would not be calling it luck
Roethlisberger
A few months ago I posted that of all the QBs in the league that I would take instead of Romo, I chose only Roethlisberger. He showed why tonight. Damn…
I dont care
if these guys like each other or not…..they get paid plenty of money and they better play their asses off tonight!
damn
balt needs that win next week or they could be in trouble…pitt screws us once again…nothing can ever be easy this season jezzzz…can we ever get a break
wow
ur joking right?
there’s a reason they’re losing every 4th qtr
i’d rather have a 300 yd per game passer to put the game away along with the best defense
Superbowl or Bust?
this team
has bad karma I wonder if it is from all of the “hotshot” signings
Do you guys think if Garrett becomes head coach that he would
have the respect of the team, or do we need to go outside and get Cowher?
i thought
schottenheimer is going to cleveland
and the patriots offensive coordinator could get a job in cinci, detroit, or any other team looking for a head coach
and matt cassel will probably go with him
Superbowl or Bust?
Cowher isn't coming here
If garrett is offered the headcoaching job, i think his decision will be if T.O is brought back
I'd love Cowher to come here
But why would he or any other strong coach come here to work with Jerry Jones? Jones tried it with Parcells but that didn’t work out so chances are the boss won’t try that type of setup again.
didnt work???????
are you sure? we were 10 tims better after bill than before bill.
good question
go outside even though he gave garrett his word that he be the next hc……..cowher, billick would be fine
Fisher
At least you heard him hold himself accountable when he said he should have taken the wind in the 4th quarter instead of the 3rd.
Reminds me of last week when Wade should have done the same thing.
But yes right now my SB pick would be
Carolina vs Pitt
yep
maybe Jerry learned his lesson…..doubt it though
Wade
should have taken more control starting last year and never did and we are paying for it this entire season for the most part Not the right coach for all these personalities
Barber
Is active, so is Hamlin, Davis, and Roy E.

hopefully miles can bring something to this team that we've been missing
A Cowboy fan from Dallas residing in enemy terretory since 1990..
yea
if miles and crayton get involved then it opens up things for t.o. witten and roy e
i really hope roy e gets a td today and its thrown with romo’s right hand
Superbowl or Bust?
Barber's active?
I am starting Choice anyway…luckily I am already up 18 points with my opponent having no one else. Go Tashard!
i hope
choice is utilized well because he is faster than barber and can be used well on circle and screen routes
Superbowl or Bust?
I've got serious knots in my stomach, anybody else?
God, please let this Cowboys team win tonight.
Winning would be a HUGE bandaid over all the turmoil of the past week, not to mention this is a must win for us.

I'm
Not nervous for some reason, although as we approaches game time I am slowly getting nervous. lol

yea
usually im going insane about now but today im calm
its like we HAVE to win and that gives a little bit of confidence
normally during the game im pacing back and forth but i plan to eat while i watch on the couch
Superbowl or Bust?
COWBOYS WILL WIN
Yer darn tootin (no, not talkin to myself, not crazy man like Tex)

wonder
how the crowd reacts to TO’s first drop
Take a deep breath
AND ENJOY THE GAME. Also thank God we’re not Detroit fans, or like in my city (a pall hangs over Wichita) Chiefs fans. Just went Christmas shopping and Wal-Mart the other day and rack after rack of KC gear had been marked CLEARANCE!!!
Ha, ha, ha CHEIFS SUCK!!! Believe me, you don’t know how satisfying that is, Cheif’s fans are so freaking obnoxious.

haha
i live in d.c. so i had to bear the redskins fans giving me crap after they won in week 4 but lately no-one has been saying anything cuz of their .500 record lol
its such a great feeling wearing a ’boys jersey the day after they win
Superbowl or Bust?
I can't stand Buck either
I think Dallas is 2-0 on Sunday night this year, so maybe they play better at night.
