Early games open thread

We have to wait through the one o'clock games and the four o'clock games this week. That's a long day to wait for some Cowboys football. With some solid play and a little good luck it will be worth it.

In the meantime, occupy yourselves with a little Sunday afternoon football.

This is an open thread for all the Sunday games.

assuming we all agree we need to win out.

A Tampa loss is okay too.

Then we’d be ahead of them both.

So who are we rooting for again?

If we win out we are probably in, but whats the scenario if we only go 2-1 down the stretch?

by Spaceball on Dec 14, 2008 11:45 AM CST reply actions

if the falcons won this week,

then lost next week to the vikings, we would still have the tie-breaker if we both went 10-6 right?

Playoff Scenario

So we need the Bucs to pull one out against the Falcons.

What are the implications on the Minnesota/Arizona game?? (and obviously we are rooting for Cleveland to beat Philly.)

by commoncents on Dec 14, 2008 11:59 AM CST reply actions

Why does everybody want Tampa to win?

They’re one game AHEAD of Dallas. They’re 9-4 people.

They’re last two games are against the Chargers and Raiders. They’re not losing those.
This is their last chance to lose. You want to leapfrog them, root for the Falcons.

by Rafael Vela on Dec 14, 2008 12:58 PM CST up reply actions

The way that TB is playing I am not sure they can’t lose verse the AFC West’s worse.

They win, we move to the top Wild Card spot with a win tonight, over both TB and Atlanta.

they are definitely the better team, even without Garcia.

Why do we want Tampa to win?

If Tampa loses, we jump ahead of both of them. Atlanta due to better conference record and TB due to head to head.

That of course is assuming a win tonight, which without that none of it matters.

by mhuff13 on Dec 14, 2008 12:34 PM CST reply actions

People are in 'worst case scenario mode'

So they’re thinking about protecting the downside. So, if teams we’re tied with or behind us lose, we’re in better shape.

You have a great point, though. If TAM loses and we win, we move to #5 spot.

by PaulFVillarreal on Dec 14, 2008 12:37 PM CST up reply actions

Yeah, it really was

ATL is looking solid, and TAM looks like they’re missing Garcia, the starting interior D lineman (I think both are starters) and may be suffering from the short week and a bit of a Carolina hangover. Still early, though.

well if tampa falls here

they could lose either one of the 2

by canty99 on Dec 14, 2008 12:43 PM CST up reply actions

How do you figure

When we are currently tied with Atlanta, and will then have a worse conference record, and will then be tied with both Chicago and Philly for conference record.

Don’t think about it as just Atlanta and Tampa. Gotta take into account the teams just behind us as well.

by mhuff13 on Dec 14, 2008 12:52 PM CST up reply actions

You get the feeling

…a lot will come down to the last week in Philly. Not sure I’m feeling great about that possibility right now. Not because I don’t trust the Cowboys but because I don’t want PHI to have any shot at all.

by PaulFVillarreal on Dec 14, 2008 12:41 PM CST up reply actions

I come in peace

there’s no live open thread for the day games at Big Blue View, and I’m only popping in to make fun of the Redskins. How awful are they all of a sudden? I live in DC now, and early in the season their fans and radio hosts were talking about winning the division and being Super Bowl contenders. It’s nice to see that they’re probably gonna be eliminated from playoff contention by the 1-12-1 Bengals….pathetic.

He needed 3 more years to grow up, to be threatened with being out of the league for good and a strong coach in Gruden to stop acting like a bonehead.

Sometimes it works to sign one of these talented socialpathic players as free agents, but they are almost always a wasted draft pick because when someone is on their third chance there is some team that wasted a pick in order to give them the first chance.

We Have to go 3 -0

At the very least we have to beat the Giants tonight.

TB is currently 9-4 playing ATL today with SD and Oak after today.
Dal is currently 8-5 playing NYG tonight with Balt and Phil after today.
ATL is currently 8-5 playing TB today with Minn and ST. Louis after today.
Phil is currently 7-5-1 playing CLE Monday night with Wash and Dallas after today.
Chi is currently 8-6 after beating NO Thursday with GB and Houston after today.

My predictions
TB will go 1 and 2 to finish 10 – 6
Atl will go 3 and 0 to finish 11 -5
Phil will go 2 and 1 to finish 9-6-1
Chi will go 1 and 1 to finish 9 – 7

If we go 3 – 0 That puts us and Atl in with 11-5 records. If we lose one game we would probably be tied with TB and would only win the tie breaker if our loss is against Balt.

by staubachfan on Dec 14, 2008 1:28 PM CST reply actions

My thinking is similar. I think TB will fade. Not sure about the Minnesota Atlanta game.

The odds are is that the last game verse Philly a playoff game. They will win the next two and be 9-5-1 and will have a shot at the wildcard spot even if we win the next two games. If we lose one of the next two we will likely have a shot too. Winner is in, loser goes home.

by Trey, on Dec 14, 2008 2:05 PM CST up reply actions

My gut tells me it will be more like this

TB will go 2-1 to finish 11-5
Dal will go 1-2 to finish 9-7
ATL will go 2-1 to finish 10-6
Phil will go 3-0 to finish 10-5-1
Chi will go 2-0 to finish 10-6

So I guess that means Tampa and Philly get in and we go looking for a new head coach. Still hoping for the best, though.

by Kevdog on Dec 14, 2008 2:07 PM CST up reply actions

Lord I hate the Redskins

but they’re going to win this game today, and they’ll probably win going away. Bad teams like Cincy find a way to screw up fast starts like they had today.

by Kevdog on Dec 14, 2008 1:54 PM CST reply actions

I hate them too, but I would love to see them win today. They would have hope and at least play Philly tough the week before we play them to determine if we go to the playoffs.

The skins will rest banged up players and be less desperate if they are out of it after today.

by canty99 on Dec 14, 2008 2:08 PM CST up reply actions

He also averages about 11 yards a catch. He might be the best possession reciever in history, but he seldom makes game breaking plays that the best WO make.

I would love to have him as a Cowboy too, but he is not in Fitz’s class or what TO or Moss were when they were at their best.

by Trey, on Dec 14, 2008 2:10 PM CST up reply actions

Some of those numbers can attribute

to him being on a bad team, with mediocre QB’s. 154 yards and TD first half proves he can be a big play WO.

by rocj55 on Dec 14, 2008 2:13 PM CST up reply actions

he has 161 yards so far today

Schawb has been injured almost half the year, the hurricane that hit the texas coast really killed their start of the season and Carr had no offensive line in front of him to make plays down the field. Possession receiver , he is not..

I’d take Johnson, calvin or Andre any day over T.O

Now we'll see what our guys are made of

Atlanta won so the pressure is on for tonight’s game. If we lose, which I don’t expect we will, all hell will break loose in Dallas. Jerry’s entire team building philosophy is on the line. The Cowboys look pretty close to what Jerry thinks a team should look like. The question is, can the team that Jerry built win? I know others had a hand in it, but in the end, this is a Jerry Jones bought and paid for team. I’m dying for this game to start. GO COWBOYS!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Bum’s boy gets fired! I am not sold on Red being any kind of genius. Any OC with this talent could produce a good O. Maybe even a better less predictable one. I would like to see Cowher take control of this group, head coaches need to be the ultimate leader on the team. I also believe if you get Cowher, Lebeau follows! Can you imagine our D with Lebeau at the helm. I mean who is Harrison? Imagine what Ware could do in this scheme!

I thought Romo would bounce back after last week and have a good game

but wiht all that went on this week I dont know. Will Romo try to over compensate and throw it more to TO to make him happy whether he’s open or not.

If I were the Giants on offense, I’d spread the cowboys out and attack their depleted secondary, especially the safeties and on denfese, I’d take my most physical corner and punch T.O in the mouth on the line every play and when the play is over push him some more to get him fustrated early and often..

The one where Emmitt dislocated his shoulder. Both teams were really good back then. I enjoyed seeing Darren Woodson flying around at full speed. Irvin and Harper hardly had a catch in the second half or the OT period. It was all Emmitt, Johnson, and Novacek, but mostly Emmitt.

“I’ve been successful everywhere I’ve been”. Sorry TO, most define success (at least here in Dallas) as winning Super Bowls.

“As long as I’ve got my family’s support that’s all I need”. Sad that family support should go unsaid. You get paid millions to be part of a TEAM and try and get their support and support THEM!

Barber's active?

I am starting Choice anyway…luckily I am already up 18 points with my opponent having no one else. Go Tashard!

i hope

choice is utilized well because he is faster than barber and can be used well on circle and screen routes

I've got serious knots in my stomach, anybody else?

God, please let this Cowboys team win tonight.

Winning would be a HUGE bandaid over all the turmoil of the past week, not to mention this is a must win for us.

Take a deep breath

AND ENJOY THE GAME. Also thank God we’re not Detroit fans, or like in my city (a pall hangs over Wichita) Chiefs fans. Just went Christmas shopping and Wal-Mart the other day and rack after rack of KC gear had been marked CLEARANCE!!!

Ha, ha, ha CHEIFS SUCK!!! Believe me, you don’t know how satisfying that is, Cheif’s fans are so freaking obnoxious.

haha

i live in d.c. so i had to bear the redskins fans giving me crap after they won in week 4 but lately no-one has been saying anything cuz of their .500 record lol
its such a great feeling wearing a ’boys jersey the day after they win

I can't stand Buck either

I think Dallas is 2-0 on Sunday night this year, so maybe they play better at night.
