Cowboys shrug off controversy, beat Giants 20-8
Cowboys 20 - Giants 8
Hallelujah! Texas Stadium turned into Fantasy Island with Ricardo Montalban proclaiming "Smiles everyone, smiles." And smile they did, Tony Romo, Terrell Owens, Jason Witten, and the rest of the crew were having a jolly time on the sidelines and all the controversy of the last week was brushed aside.
Credit a huge effort from the suddenly dominate Cowboys defense which sacked Eli Manning eight times on the night, led by DeMarcus Ware's three. While the Cowboys were smiling the famous Eli-face returned as the Giants offense was a total dud.
Tony Romo showed incredible guts as he was getting knocked around pretty good by the Giants defense early and played most of the game with a sore back from a knee. But he played through the pain and didn't turn the ball over. My biggest point with Romo has always been ball security and this game proved that even when the offense isn't totally clicking, if you don't turn the ball over you can still win. Tashard Choice produced a second consecutive excellent game and has given the Cowboys a 1-2 punch at running back for the playoff push even with the absence of Felix Jones.
Terence Newman had a great game with two interceptions and smothered Domenik Hixon on much of the night and helped the Cowboys front line accrue the sacks needed to stifle the Giants offense.
The picture of the night? T.O., Jason Witten and Tony Romo all hanging on the sideline joking and joshing, probably plotting the demise of Ed Werder. T.O. even took a shot at Werder in the post-game interview which consisted of, of course, Romo, Witten and Owens.
Celebrate good times my Cowboys brethren. We are still in the mix for the playoffs and with the defense playing the way it is anything is possible.

Owens is saying that Werder made everything up; He is saying that Werder's claims are totally baseless
Someone asked him if Romo, Witten and TO are the new ‘Triplets’ and he said “What does Ed Werder say?”
He just said that Jaspon Witten is a great guy and that they complement each other. He also praised the defense.

No INT’s tonight. Smart move to get the ball out of bounds on the fumble, so they couldn’t get a TD out of it. Played hurt and made some great plays when it mattered. Good job Tony.

Good Game
I agree with the notion if we dont turn it turn it over, we can win every game. Sometimes its ok to be conservative, and just do what it takes to win as opposed to improvise all the time. Very good play calling late in the game by Garett, and amazing defensive play calling by Phillips. Ware is amazing, he should be Defensive MVP or at least in the consideration. As for media or whatever over reacting, they are the media they are supposed to do that. If you dont want that, dont give them anything. TO better be on his best behavior or as everyone heard, the only team that will take a chance on him after us is Oakland, cause “They take anybody..” Line of the night
by NamingRightsOnSale on Dec 14, 2008 10:47 PM CST reply actions 0 recs
Big difference when you play solid defense and dont turn the ball over
giving the opponent a short field. You’ll win alot of games NOT turning the ball over…
We have to work on the running game, we seem to get away from that early, but this was great game on defense, pressure pressure pressure defense. Penaties are killing us though on offense. Can we clean that up

our offense has been anemic two weeks in a row, but a lot of the credit has to go to your d-line. They dominated upfront. Also, much props to Tony Romo. Most Giants fans hate him, but I respect the hell out of him – he’s a warrior, and a damn good QB. My only regret is he couldn’t save my fantasy team tonight…

by DC_fan on Dec 15, 2008 7:29 AM CST up reply actions 0 recs
Here's the rub.
The ref plainly stated that the horse collar was made outside the tackles and therefore a personal foul. Now, I could have sworn that they instituted the penalty because it is a dangerous tackle. If so, why is it less dangerous between the tackles, because it’s only a penalty outside the tackles.
That’s like saying that helmet-to-helmet is only a penalty if it occurs inside the tackles.
It’s either dangerous or it’s not. Period. End of story.

Indeed
He’s good against the run. I want to see his pass-rushing get better over the offseason. He’s really good at closing the QB.

Great win
One thing I noticed is Marion didn’t even look close to healthy.. Make sure you all say a prayer from Romo’s back and Holland’s ankle.. We need a healthy Romo and Holland for Baltimore..

But there’s no way I want him starting against the Ravens. No sir.

Ware needs 3.5 sacks
To tie the NFL record for sacks in one season!!
So...why is John Hart still being paid?

We just beat up the media proclaimed “best line in football” for 8 sacks..

Here's a better stat
Eli has been sacked 23 times this season. The Cowboys have 12 of them (4 earlier and 8 last night), meaning the other 12 games they gave up 11 sacks.
2 Dallas games – 12 sacks
12 other games – 11 sacks

damnit it the favre/strahan combo….if it was 2.5 sacks there’d be no question the record is Ware’s

He’s usually there when we need him. But if everyone’s healthy, he’s what, the 4th/5th option now?
Still, I like the guy, especially if he keeps his thoughts to himself.

I'm good with him being 4th WR
The guy is solid, even if he’s not a dynamic punt returner. I’ll take 10 yds or a fair catch over Pacman’s disastrous attempts.

His injury has really limited him
and its not going to get any better this year while he’s playing. It just takes a long time to heal.
Newman had this last year, and he wasn’t the same player all year. He even took shots to try to play. It just doesn’t get better unless you rest it for three or four month’s

injury
Calvin Watkins, of The Dallas Morning News, reports Dallas Cowboys WR Roy Williams (foot) is dealing with plantar fascia in his foot. Williams said the injury is more bothersome than painful, but he could be limited in practice the next few days.
