Around SBN: 2012 Budweiser Shootout Entry List Released

The Wade Factor

Wade Phillips has really turned this defense around since taking over playcalling duties after the Debacle in St. Louis.

Star-divide

In the Brian Stewart era, the Coboys put up the following sacks:

Cle - 1
Phi - 4
GB  - 5
Was - 2
Cin - 2
Ari - 1
Stl - 5
-------
Avg per game pre WP - 2.85

After Wade took over playcalling duties, and I assume much else of the defensive coaching duties of the team, they put up numbers like this:

TB  - 2
NYG - 4
WAS - 3
SF  - 4
SEA - 7
PIT - 5
NYG - 8
----------
Avg per game post WP - 4.71

2 more sacks per game, and that doesn't include hurries, knockdowns, etc, all of which lead to turnovers.

Great. Our Head Coach is a Really Good Coordinator...

Don’t we need a head coach as the head coach?

give me a good DC and OC

and i’ll volunteer to be the passionate, screaming HC

a HC needs football knowledge to be sure, but needs to be

  1. a manager – doesn’t have to be the expert in O & D, just needs to know how to manage his coordinators and cut their talents loose. also needs to know how to manage diva players, blue-collar players, and disgruntled (leaking faucet) players
  2. a leader / motivator – has to be able to persuade and coerce his team to play like they won’t eat if they don’t win, much less earn big $$$
  3. a PR dream – after this past week, i wonder what someone with a little more “polish” could do with the boys’ public perception
  4. a talent evaluator – he should have some , maybe the primary, influence on personell
  5. a creative talent – he should come up with creative ideas for plays, formations, strategy, etc.
  6. a strategist – should be able to come up with a general game plan while allowing the coordinators to flesh them out and make it happen

I commented. You're welcome.
