Monday Night Football open thread

The Cleveland Browns visit the Philadelphia Eagles for your Monday night match-up. While I don't hold out much hope for a Browns victory, I still have to root against the Eagles just because they're the Eagles.

This is an open thread for the game.

Go Brownies

No work tomorrow, and grad school is over for the holidays. I can just enjoy the game without having to worry about what’s next on my plate.

Browns win would be great.

by kindablue on Dec 15, 2008 7:25 PM CST reply actions   0 recs

browns have no shot

it would be nice but there is no way……i am hoping for some injuries nothing major though that would not be right…..i understand rooting for an injury is wrong but the heck with it i hate the eagles

If the Brownies pull off the upset

I’m going to do cartwheels down my street tonight

Would you rather have

Johnathon Stewart or Felix Jones?

I think we were taking Felix

even if we were drafting higher

Good thing Cleveland played well

Got Felix for less.

felix

only because we have barber…if we did not have barber i would go with stewart

by canty99 on Dec 15, 2008 7:51 PM CST up reply actions   0 recs

Stewart is faster then Felix

but Felix is a better special teams player.

better special teams player??

he was drafted because he is a playmaker ….am i missing something here…felix is loaded with talent and has great vision and makes people miss…and his burst is unbelievable

by canty99 on Dec 15, 2008 7:58 PM CST up reply actions   0 recs

what does it matter?

Stewart was never an option. They did like Stewart, a lot, but they had Jones rated VERY highly.

by Rafael Vela on Dec 15, 2008 7:54 PM CST up reply actions   0 recs

As great as Stewart, Felix and CJ are.....

Steve Slaton might end up being the best of the bunch. Great value draft for running backs.

by MadMick on Dec 15, 2008 8:11 PM CST up reply actions   0 recs

Our rookie running backs

could combine for 750 yards and 5-6 TDs…not too bad!

by DavidH22 on Dec 15, 2008 8:51 PM CST up reply actions   0 recs

My point was..

If Cleveland would have had a season like they are having now, we would have had a shot at Johnathon Stewart.

if we win next week against the ravens

and both atl and tb lose then we automatically get in
but i would love to see the eagles lose tonight or at least next week
then that takes some pressure off of the last game which we should win anyways…

Superbowl or Bust?

by MrMinority on Dec 15, 2008 8:17 PM CST reply actions   0 recs

Uh, no we don't

If the Eagles win out, they are in.

If the Bears finish 2-0, we would be tied with them and then some tiebreakers would come into play.

by mhuff13 on Dec 15, 2008 8:25 PM CST up reply actions   0 recs

And not only that, but if TB and Atlanta loses but then win their last game

And we lose to Philly, that creates a 3 way tie (4 if Chicago goes 2-0) for the last spot.

by mhuff13 on Dec 15, 2008 8:27 PM CST up reply actions   0 recs

ok thanks for that

the way our defense is playing they should have no problem against philly…they can man up with those wr’s all game and load the box to contain westbrook…good matchup for the boys

by canty99 on Dec 15, 2008 8:20 PM CST reply actions   0 recs

god the browns suck....

and why do we always hafta play the eagles at the end of the season?

i hope jason garrett calls a lot of T.O. plays in the red zone when we play them. Let him rub their faces in it. Of course, he has to catch the damn ball first…….on second thought maybe he should call those plays for witten….lol…..

man the browns are awful
i really hope the skins wake up and beat them next week and end their season slightly above mediocrity
and we win out

Superbowl or Bust?

Just think about it though

You just said Dorsey. What team wouldn’t be awful with him starting?

by mhuff13 on Dec 15, 2008 8:38 PM CST up reply actions   0 recs

Good call

yeah it was…they dominated Dallas all game long…had a 20-7 lead in the 4th…Thiong ran back an int TD…great Monday Night game

I think the winner of the Dall/philly game gets the last playoff spot

My scenerio

Philly wins tonight and at wash(Zorn may be out after one year)
Tampa wins their last two home games, SD and Oak(gimme games, west coast teams travelling east are horrible)
Atlanta loses to the vikes next week ending Atlanta playoff chances
Giants (one seed clinch)beats Carolina, then mails the game to the vikes in week 17
Dallas beats Baltimore

forget about chicago…

PLease washington, grow a pair and beat the eagles and end all this

by Deke on Dec 15, 2008 9:04 PM CST reply actions   0 recs

Why forget Chicago

If they win out (Green Bay and Houston) they are 10-6. That would be right in the thick of things if all the other teams lose one.

by mhuff13 on Dec 15, 2008 9:07 PM CST up reply actions   0 recs

10-6 does them no good

vikes win the division The winner of the dallas game will be either 11-5 or 10-5-1(philly)

by Deke on Dec 15, 2008 9:11 PM CST up reply actions   0 recs

under my scenerio

and I dont think the bears beat houston in houston. I have the bears at 9-7

by Deke on Dec 15, 2008 9:12 PM CST up reply actions   0 recs

I could see that actually

Houston playing out of their minds

by mhuff13 on Dec 15, 2008 9:14 PM CST up reply actions   0 recs

The big decision could be for NBC and the sunday night game week 17

either Miami at Jets for the division or Dallas at Philly for the final playoff spot.

I think the Jets lose though in Seattle this week. they’re offense and defense has been horrible and I hate road teams going from east to west coast and vice versa)..and the Patriots win the division(Ari-H Buff-A). Never would of thought that would happen when Brady went down.

by Deke on Dec 15, 2008 9:25 PM CST up reply actions   0 recs

They can't put Dallas- Philly on prime time

Because both teams have already been on prime time 5 times this year.

Sorry, the link is an article that shows that the boys have not used up their allotted

prime time games this year.

by cowboy78 on Dec 15, 2008 10:01 PM CST up reply actions   0 recs

BOTH teams have 5 played the primetime games

the rule is you can’t move a game to primetime as part of the flex schedule if both of those teams have already played the max alotted five primetime games.

If one of the two teams played five prime time games and the other played less than five, then the game could be part of the flex schedule, but both philly and Dallas have played the max five games in primetime.

by Deke on Dec 15, 2008 10:13 PM CST up reply actions   0 recs

Yes but the article has a comment from NFL spokesperson Greg Aiello

does that mean it will happen, no. But if the nfl rep says it can happen it might happen.

Ignore the Mainstream Media, EMBRACE THE HATE!!!!

by cowboy78 on Dec 15, 2008 10:19 PM CST up reply actions   0 recs

from the article you provided, you missed the update
UPDATE: Oops. In calculating the Cowboys’ prime-time appearances, we overlooked the fact that the Eagles (after tonight) will have appeared in five prime-time games, too. Since only one team can go beyond the five-game limit for prime-time appearances, broadcasting the Cowboys-Eagles game would result in two teams appearing six times in prime time.

So it can’t happen

looks like the Jets Miami game will be the NBC game or if the Giants lose to carolina this week, Giants/Vikes

by Deke on Dec 15, 2008 10:37 PM CST up reply actions   0 recs

I don't see Giants winning against Carolina

I kinda hoped Carolina wins much rather the boys going there than cold and windy NYC.

Its gonna be tough...

Its going to be really hard to play baltimore and beat them with all our injuries, they need the win too. Then after that game which should be extremely physical, we have to go to Philty to secure a playoff spot…..very tough road. That stupid game against Washington really hurts now and also the embarrasement against the Rams.

But hey, if we win those two and scramble into the playoffs we would have won 6 out of our last 7 and hopefully a bit healthier into the playoffs to play who? Min or Cards???? bring it on…..

by ManTab on Dec 15, 2008 10:05 PM CST reply actions   0 recs

The biggest issues are

heart and discipline…..we have to lower our penalties 11 for over 100 yards wont do it and we have to play with guts!!!….which we have actually done lately…

You better hope Holland can go saturday

If proctor is in there, Romo could get killed

if couwboys did what they did in pitt with less turnovers we should win with ease right

Cowboys clinch Wild Card this week if...

win vs BAL
and
TB or ATL lose
and
PHI ties or loses

by Cosby Sweater on Dec 15, 2008 11:33 PM CST reply actions   0 recs

Slight revision (I think)

Cowboys clinch Wild Card this week if…

win vs BAL
and 2 of the following 3
TB loses vs SD
ATL loses vs MIN
PHI ties or loses vs WAS

by Cosby Sweater on Dec 15, 2008 11:48 PM CST up reply actions   0 recs

well...

everyone sees TB rolling over SD at home. I don’t think so, especially Garcia being banged up and that offense doesn’t put up a ton of points to begin with, SD could win that game.

everyone sees Atlanta going into Minnesota and destroying them. I don’t know about that, especially considering Minnesota is in the hunt and just destroyed one of the NFL’s best offenses at home.

MAN please WASH play spoiler. Will it happen? No. Philly will destroy Washington, but I think we can get at least one game of help this week.

by DieSlowKeyshawn on Dec 15, 2008 11:49 PM CST up reply actions   0 recs

Scary week 17 scenarios:

OK, I can’t sleep.

If DAL, TB, ATL & PHI all win or all lose this week, here’s the Cowboys clinching scenario in week 17:

win vs PHI
or
lose vs PHI
and TB loss vs OAK
and ATL loss vs STL
YIKES. Not very likely for TB and ATL to lose either of these games.

If TB, ATL & PHI win this week and DAL loses DAL is in with:

win vs PHI
and ATL or TB lose (again, not very likely)

lose vs PHI
and ATL and TB lose (even less likely)

Basically, because ATL & TB have such cake games week 17, the Cowboys need to win out. Hoping for help, especially in week 17, will not be good.

*I’m not taking into account CHI or WAS who need all the help in the world to get in.

by Cosby Sweater on Dec 16, 2008 12:43 AM CST reply actions   0 recs

The Cowboys will win out,

and make all the other team scenarios moot. This team must be high as a kite right now. They will carry their new found enthusiasm and confidence into the next two games. I really like our chances after seeing the destruction of the SB champions. NYG may not recover, and we may get a chance to crush them again.

Wade gave Proctor kudos

Wade said Proctor played a good game. Are they related, or, is Jerry working out a trade for Proctor with a blind GM. Of course, I haven’t seen the film.

Ok so I know the wildcards spots are still in a dead heat but if we can beat Baltimore is there anyway we lock up one of the spots? I know someone posted that if we win and Atl and Tampa lose we’re assured a spot but is this a definite? Everything I read keeps saying we need to win out to get in with no mention of winning 1 of the next 2 and still making it

Cory Proctor

http://www.dallascowboys.com/news/news.cfm?id=3CD60563-EACF-D77B-B19C85A77C93E467

In the above link, Josh Ellis reported that Wade Phillips called Cory Proctor’s performance against the Giants the best along the O-Line. Is he kidding? He had one good play (on Choice’s late TD run) and was otherwise useless.

Not only did he not know the snap count on the safety play, but he didn’t even attempt to get up after D-linemen ran right past him.

Other times it was clear that Flozell Adams had to step inside to help Proctor leaving him to try to fend off Tuck with only his left arm. Moreover, Gurode went left first on almost every passing play.

On another play, Martellus Bennett was called for a hold, but it looked to me that Cory Proctor also committed a holding penalty on the play; he hooked his arm around the guy who beat him on the play.

Wade can say Proctor played well all he wants, but I would have sent him home right after the safety. If not for Romo’s extra effort to knock that ball out of the end zone, that safety could have been a touchdown.

Overall, I think that the team played well, but it’s time to sit proctor. I’d imagine the next guy in line (if Holland can’t go next week) is Pat McQuistan and I would much rather see him in there than Cory Proctor; this guy needs to go now.

That rule that a team can only appear in Prime time 5 times in a year

sounds like something Ralph Wilson, owner of the Bills, would of forced on the league

by AustonianAggie on Dec 16, 2008 10:53 AM CST reply actions   0 recs

Yes,

and the NFL should schedule the four teams with the worst records from the previous year for the first SNF, and MNF games of the year. Ideas like this should require and mental health evaluation of the proposer.

by CowboyMan on Dec 16, 2008 1:37 PM CST up reply actions   0 recs

The NFL clarrified today that the Eagles/Cowboys game is still in plays for the final sunday game of the year

I was under the impression that if both teams played in five primetime games, they couldn’t qualify for a sixth primetime game, but the league said they could…..
