What a joke the Pro Bowl has become

For years, Michael Vick disgraced the Pro Bowl with his average QB play and spectacular running back play. Now Eli "Bus Driver" Manning makes it in over Romo?

Just look at the numbers:

Manning: 261-433  60.3%  2938 yards  20 TD  10 INT  86.4 rating

Romo: 231-366  63.1%  3013 yards  24 TD  11 INT  98.3 rating

Manning is 11-3 as a starter, Romo is 8-3. Manning has 1 300 yard game, Romo has 6.

Manning averaging 6.8 yards per attempt, Romo 8.2.

So basically what they're trying to say is, you have to play a full season to go to the Pro Bowl. Nevermind that this team was NOTHING without Romo, as we all painfully learned. He came back and sparked a dead team to a potential playoff run.

I hope Tony uses this as motivation (doubt he needs it) for a Super Bowl run.

hey

eli got a superbowl win and that counts as something
but yea i think romo got snubbed
but the biggest snub is bradie james who definitely deserved a pro bowl vote
but w/e i think this puts out team back onto earth a bit going from 13 pro bowlers to 5
also, i doubt they care
i have a feeling this team is focused and they know damn well whats needed to get into the playoffs and what to do once they’re there
we’ll see how it plays out

i mean

winning the superbowl no doubt helped his cause
and even though he did less for his team than romo they were still 11-1
the season’s not over yet and im hoping romo will hoist the lombardi in early 09

Superbowl or Bust?

kerry collins didnt win the superbowl last year

even though last year should have nothing to do with this year’s pro bowl voting
the superbowl mvp of last year: eli manning has garnered a majority of his votes mainly because he won the superbowl
i think romo deserves it way more than he does
i mean he was #1 in the league in qb rating and i think now he’s 2nd or 3rd
i also think rivers should’ve got in as well but since the chargers blow he was overlooked
also i think the mid season slump and the pitt game definitely slid ppl away from voting for romo and the players and coaches too after the pitt game
but he has the top stats in the league and he missed 3 games
however, the pro bowl doesn’t really mean anything, i mean honestly who actually sits down and watches the pro bowl
i might check in at some points but other than that i could care less

sb win shouldn't matter as that was last year

this is supposed to be 2008 pro bowl team ,not 2007 pro bowl team. Last year’s performance should have absolutely no bearing on this year.

Romo's injuries cost him.

If Romo had been healthy all year, he would have made it.

I think it’s weird that everyone thinks “bus driver” is such an awful thing. If Romo had just been a bus driver against Pittsburgh, we would have won. If the Cowboys had a solid bus driver type QB as a backup, they probably beat the Rams and aren’t in the situation they are currently in. Sometimes it’s better to just move the chains and not turn the ball over.

During the time that fan voting was open, Eli was the leader of the best team in the league, who are also the defending champions. Yes, their play has tailed off, but during the last weekend of voting, in one of the most watched games of the season, Romo had one of the worst games of his career and cost his team the game. If he had played well, or maybe even not played poorly, he probably gets the Pro Bowl.

Kerry Collins, like Romo, did not start all of his team’s games this year.

that shouldn't matter

Romo only played in 10 games in 2006 and made it with less impressive numbers.

Saying he didn’t play in all 16 games in a bogus excuse.

Bogus excuse for what?

I didn’t personally select the Pro Bowl roster. I simply restated what many columnists had said when analyzing and predicting the Pro Bowl roster.

Are you saying that he didn’t deserve to make it in 2006?

by Baked Potato Soup on Dec 17, 2008 7:46 AM CST up reply actions

I'm saying those columnists make a very weak argument

and that missing games shouldn’t matter because it obviously didn’t matter in 2006 when he was voted in and he actually deserves it more this year.

+1

But the Redskins ensured that this year, the big joke that is the pro bowl was exposed. I’d rather have zero pro bowl appearances and a playoff win.

It's Been a Joke for Decades

Roy Williams the safety has sucked since 2003, but he’s gone every year since then, save this year.

Harry Carson got inducted in the Hall of Fame on the strength of Parcells’ lobbying and an ungodly number of undeserved Pro Bowl selections.

Offensive linemen are usually chosen on reputation, not performance. Erik Williams made it several years after he was a shadow of his former self.

And on and on. The Pro Bowl is about celebrity status, not accomplishments. Never has been.

Larry Allen made it more than a few times on rep alone

Also, Lawrence taylor made it a few years when he was well past his sell-by date.

Romo's snub will be the motivation

to lead us to the SB this year. He knows he should have made it and will play with a chip on his shoulder and prove to everyone how they were wrong over the next several weeks.

he obviously was

but know that motivation will be even stronger which is a scary thing for opposing defenses.

honestly I would hope

that the 0-2 for post season record would be enough. I’m hoping he not so petty as to truly be fired up by a pro bowl snub.

Laffable, man.

Not getting voted to some rinky dink all star team is supposed to be what lights the fire in his belly to win a Super Bowl. That’s rich.

beauty pageant?

Hasn’t the probowl always been a popularity contest? Larger market teams and those with more fans get their guys in? The guys want in and some go just to collect the extra cash? There is no standard to vote on. 13 Probowlers doesn’t mean much just that alot of fans paid attention and voted. If the cowboys win 12+ games they are going to bring the fair weather fans and bandwagon jumpers. This year the selections seem more accurate(exception B.James) . And as far as motivation, A motivated romo scares me. I think back to buffalo and the steelers along with several others when he tried to hard. We can win these last two as long as we dont give up turnovers … … .

I remember with year's pro bowl...

Many players actually lose money because they put their whole families up in Hawaii for a week. The biggest thing is the contract incentives they receive based on Pro Bowl appearances. I know Albert Haynesworth is an unrestricted free agent now because he made it…As for all the motivation and “chip-on-his-shoulder” talk, I really hope that all our players need no extra motivation to play the game. I hate the thought that something could happen to make them play any harder than what they already are, which goddamn well better be at 110%

Destinations

I guess Romo will go to Mexico this year while Witten goes to Hawaii. Maybe TO can take Witten’s place in Acapulco this year? What a great bonding opportunity…….
