Around SBN: Why Hockey Fans Should Root For Devils Vs. Kings

I’m dreaming… of an explosive offense…

Just like the teams of yesteryear... La La La...

With the defense playing so dominant it would be incredible to see the offense find a way to get Roy Williams involved.  If they can do that I am certain that it would open up everything else for everyone else.  Week in and week out he is consistently facing single coverage and should be able to beat that every time.

Part of the issue may be with Romo.  Williams’ strength is not in creating a ton of separation like TO does but rather in getting position on a defender by placing himself in-between the DB and the ball and using his size to his advantage, (much like Irvin used to do).  Unfortunately it takes time for a QB to develop a rhythm with that sort of wide out and alas it may be next season before we really see this combination work.

Just imagine for a moment though what would happen if Roy caught 8 passes for 110 yards and two touchdowns this Saturday against the Ravens.  The following week, the Eagles would have to account for that as part of their game plan.  What would they do?  Double Williams and single cover TO?  Double both wide outs and leave the middle of the field wide open?  Blitz like crazy and leave the whole field open?

Training Camp

Like you said, they really need a full off season and a training camp to get comfortable with each other.

But yeah I’m dreaming that dream too. I’m not in any way “looking to next season” yet, but they should be very nasty in ’09. In the meantime, cross those fingers and keep the faith!

Yeah, Irvin was the best at attacking the ball.

If Romo could develop a chemistry with Roy, his ability to snag the ball in close quarters would be infinitely valuable in the red zone.

Its really really hard to beat single coverage on one foot.

Plantar fasciaitis is no laughing matter. Every step is excruciating, and pushing off of it sends lightning up your leg. Its not his strength, I don’t think, that is stopping him from dominating. Yes, lack of timing with Romo def hurts, but his foot has to be a major player in the amount he is helping this team, in my opinion.

I forgot about that. He is playing with a lot of pain.

Won't happen this season

Romo and Roy need an off season and training camp together to develop some chemistry like he has with T.O. and Witten. Also, as cowboyfan pointed out, he’s dealing with a foot injury as well.

However, I think our offense can be plenty explosive enough without Roy being a big part of it. We have so many weapons, sometimes I think part of our problem on offense if that we have TOO many weapons. There is only one ball to go around.

lol...funny

they actually need less egos on offense. From what I’ve seen lately, they have plenty of balls.

the movie swingers put it best….. “And you got these BLEEPING claws and these fangs, man! And you’re looking at your claws and you’re looking at your fangs. And you’re thinking to yourself, you don’t know what to do, man. "I don’t know how to kill the bunny.” With this you don’t know how to kill the bunny, do you know what I mean?"

we have so many weapons, its like we forget how to utilize them properly. No defense should be able to cover us up, but we consistently beat ourselves because we are so excited about our weapons.

I agree

I would love to see more Roy Williams, but you are playing Baltimore and he is still hurt.

I think a slant or two would be nice just to see what he can do.. Keep the safeties honest..
