DMN: Patrick Watkins to Injured Reserve

The Dallas Cowboys took another hit at the safety position today when Patrick Watkins was placed on injured reserve.

Safety Patrick Watkins has now down for the rest of the season with a neck stinger that's bothered him off and on all season long. The roster move clears the way for Adam "Pacman" Jones to join the 53-man roster this Sunday against the Steelers.

While Watkins' play hasn't been the best this season, he provided much needed depth at safety and was a staple on special teams.

ehh

Pat Watkins hasn’t impressed me at all this season
it seems he too is also bad in coverage just like all our over strong safeties

we really need to get a new strong safety..cuz roy doesn’t do much besides hitting u instead of making the tackle
and keith davis isn’t a long term solution

Sorry to see him go from a football perspective

but I’m glad of this decision for a personal perspective. That guy was re-injuring a neck about every game. Neurological symptoms. I’m surprised he’s been active as long as he has with these issues going on.

Get that disk surgery or whatever it is that needs to be done, Patrick. We’ll look forward to seeing you next year. Healthy.

Repeated brachial plexus stretches... "stingers"

Will eventually lead to decreased strength and weakness in the arm that is effected

My guess...he's done for...ever

Hate to say it, but I don’t see him returning to football, just my opinion.

Sad

I had hoped this kid would be a starting FS by now. His future looked promising.

Oye! how does that effect coverage teams?

Pac Rat better have his useless over hyped body flying down on punt and kick off coverage! And also,, I’m all foe moving Henry to FS, but now I am not sure whether we have enough CBs.

by bad knees on Dec 2, 2008 3:50 PM CST reply reply actions actions   0 recs

Well this must be why

they signed the LB – knowing Watkins was probably not going to be able to continue.

true

We may need Henry to play more safety..

We need Pac to stay out of trouble..

Only a concern from a depth perspective.

Has Watkins made a single play all year? In that respect he won’t be missed at all. It does raise the question, though, of who exactly is going to be our backup SS. Right now we only have 3 safeties on the roster: Hamlin, KD, and Brown.

yeah, now his pickup makes even more sense

as he is strong in kick coverage and at least a backup S

agreed

Pat Watkins last game in a cowboy uniform? Safety definite need this off-season..

Do you bring a vet to man the spot or draft a player?

I should've known better than to check the DC.com depth chart

Thanks – I thought we had picked up a S recently, but I figured I was crazy when the DC.com depth chart didn’t show anyone else. Figures.

It would hurt the pass-rush, but the TE and FB better beWare

If we lose another SS then move Hamlin to free Safey and move Ware to SS.

Thank you

Dear Plax,

Just wanted to thank you for taking the mantle from me. You know the crazy wide receiver mantle that Reid, Garcia, McNabb, Mediots and that little TO overdosed “No He Didn’t” and then the fired publicist with her 25 million reasons why I would not do what the Dallas Police suspected mantle. Glock up in the club heh. You know for all my antics the law and TO get along just fine.

Well anyway I just wanted to thank you for drawing all the media attention in the worlds largest media market away from me lovable ole TO. Well look you may need a good lawyer and Johnny Cochran has passed on so I don’t know but down in GA there was this ole guy. Matlock I think.

Anyway Thanks Plax. Not sure if you can pop popcorn at Rikers but I plan on catching the game winning TD this year and then………………well get your popcorn ready.

Patrick Watkins and Hank Baskett will always be linked.

Watkins’ ass hairs got singed on that one bomb and never grew back.

Yes he did

And you have to wonder if that’ll be his NFL career highlight…

The returned FG block against MIN

Would be a better highlight for him.

Tuna

If I remember correctly, … I think Parcells benched Watkins in his rookie year for tackling with his head down. I guess he did not listen??

by eightball on Dec 2, 2008 5:54 PM CST reply reply actions actions   0 recs

Yep

Big Bill called it early on. Sad that he couldn’t change his tackling style.

Who was the first safety parcells drafted that was very similar?

He’d throw his body around but was kind of slight but had all the upside in the world but i believe he too was done in by a stinger.

Don't believe everything you think.

by stoproyce on Dec 2, 2008 9:11 PM CST reply reply actions actions   0 recs

You might mean Justin Beriault

But he was done in by a chronic knee condition. I remember being really excited about him during preseason that year.

thats it . you are right he had a degenerative knee condition, but that kid could

lay some wood but could never stay healthy. Too bad i too think we’ve seen the last of Watkins.

Don't believe everything you think.
