Plaxico Done for the Year

The Giants didn't waste much time ending Plaxico Burress' season.  They have fined him, suspended him and placed him on reserve non-football injury list.  First time I've heard of that list.  Anyway, as usual the Giants do the right thing and jettison a player who thinks about himself more than the team, see also Shockey comma Jeremy.

It will be interesting to see if they miss a beat with this, as Toomer, Smith and Hixon are all solid receivers.

Plax

Dominated in the GB game, basically carried the team..

Caught the game winning TD in the super bowl, this is big time..

not

if you listen to ESPN or any Giants fan. They think they won’t miss him ….. I have a feeling they’ll miss him somehow. They got rid of a headache, but he has a lot of talent.

Giant's Fans

Last Sunday I invited some family who are Giant’s fans over to watch the Giant’s/Redskins game. All they could say was Plaxico should have shot himself in the head and the Giant’s were better off without him. I do think they’ll miss him against good defenses like the Ravens soon.

Signature! I don't need no stinking signature!!

this

is my thing though …. maybe Im being ignorant. All Ive heard is that he’s a great receiver …. but they won’t miss him if he’s gone. I dont get it.

Their O-line gives Manning plenty of time to throw the ball

I don’t know if this will affect them or not…

by hiafex on Dec 2, 2008 6:10 PM CST up reply actions   0 recs

maybe

that’s why ….. their O-Line is the reason why they’re so good. Eli gets too much credit. It’s that o-line.

Peaches is a tool!!

Thank you for agreeing with me

Eli is so overrated. He is NOT his brother, like many claim he is.

The O-line

makes any QB great.

Peyton has had a great line his career also…

true

I honestly think Eli is a good QB, but once the whole “Eli is better than Peyton” talk starts, I call bull s**t. That’s where he’s overrated.

Peaches is a tool!!

by what_the_crap on Dec 2, 2008 6:19 PM CST up reply actions   0 recs

I agree, that entire argument is ridiculous

Peyton Manning is one is the best ever, Eli plays on a team with a great running game and a great defense. You could plug a lot of guys into that situation and they’d succeed.

I agree there

but Eli overall this year has been better, but Peyton over the last 5 games has been coming on strong except in the last game..

Eli is good, Peyton is great..

Not even a question who I would take at QB..

I gotta give Eli some credit

He is much, much, much, much better than years past this year. This time last year he was on the verge of being benched.

However this MVP, better than Peyton talk is just, wow…

reserve non-football injury list

is what both T.O. and Keyshawn were placed on by the Eagles/Bucs when they ended their seasons as well.

by mhuff13 on Dec 2, 2008 5:54 PM CST reply actions   0 recs

i don't think so

since those weren’t non football injuries

non football injury list

if a team put a player on that list, they don’t have to pay him (can’t tell you if it’s just his salary or bonus or whatever). This is why when Plaxico’s lawyer said he could play this past sunday the Giants said that he would be examined by team ’sdoctor first who then would decide if he could play or not. They got rid of a headache AND a salary

by Helene on Dec 4, 2008 12:37 AM CST up reply actions   0 recs

No surprise

Every expert in the MSM was saying they’d cut him and go after his signing bonus.

I think the bigger story today is the MIN DT’s getting suspended for 4 games. That could knock them out of the playoffs.

+1 Tom...as Minny is not a team I wanted to face in the playoffs.

They are officially done with those two gone…

GMen won't miss Burress

He was overrated anyway. The Giants win by running the ball and that wasn’t going to change with or without Plaxico.

Plaxico WILL be missed by the Giants

But not the way we’re hoping. How can you not miss a player as talented as him? It will limit what they can do offensively. However, they are so damn good at running the ball that missing him might not translate into losses.

by mhuff13 on Dec 2, 2008 7:27 PM CST up reply actions   0 recs

good point

I think they will miss him in the playoffs when someone shuts down the run…

He carried them in the GB game..

Agreed...

I’d take their young receiver Hixon over Burress any day. The G-men don’t lose a beat when he is in the game.

The Red Ball Express will be rolling this year!

by BulletBob on Dec 3, 2008 11:34 AM CST up reply actions   0 recs

not me

If you talking straight football I am taking Burress.. I agree though they are 11-1 with Burress playing 4 games.

I dont understand why this is a shock with some of you

this was a no brainer. The Giants aren’t the cowboys, they rid themselves of their problem players, where jerry runs cover and makes excuses for his.

Plaxico has played his last game with the giants, he will be cut after the four weeks of being on the non football suspension list which takes him to the end of the regular season. The Giants wont miss him, because they play as a team, it not about individuals, its about team, something Dallas could learn from..

by Deke on Dec 2, 2008 9:11 PM CST reply actions   0 recs

Ask the Team of the 90s if they played like the Giants

Pretty sure they were all about individuals. They just happened to be supremely talented individuals.

by mhuff13 on Dec 2, 2008 9:34 PM CST up reply actions   0 recs

true, but there definitely comes a time

where if you start letting go starters and just go with backups, it will affect you as this is the NFL and you still need talent to win, no matter how team oriented you are.

In Romo we Trust

by Terry on Dec 3, 2008 9:14 AM CST up reply actions   0 recs

Deke...which NFL team won championships despite having average talent.

This was a no brainer. He commited a felony that is going to be succesfuly prosecuted. He is done for three years. This is not Adam Jones punching his body guard.

This Giant team has a succesful team concept because they have more individual talent then 90% of the leagues teams. Team concept, leadership and add up to about 10% of winning. Coaching maybe another 10% but the remaining 80% of winning is talent.

The fact that NYG talent is on the lines makes them less flashy, but don’t kid yourself, they are winning because they can out play the man in front of them. If not for two very talented running backs, a decent late round TE and two good young recievers they would be desperate for the production of Burress and Stocky. They have loads of talent and that is why they win depite some losses in personnel.

Dallas also has loads of talent, but they suffer from one of the weakest benches in the league. Once they lost starters the played with too many individuals who were not as talented as the man in front on them. As Rafael has pointed out often, the difference between an average starter and a poor backup is much greater then the difference of between a star player and a average starter.

The coaches can take part of the credit for the Rams and Washington loss.

N.O. Suspensions not good for Dallas

The NO suspensions have as large a playoff implications as the ones in Minn.

They help help Atlanta and Carolina as well as the Bears.

I agree

P. Thomas is better then Deuce at this point..

BELIEVE ME HE WILL BE MISSED

At some point the loss of Plaxico will be felt. It may not be in the regular season but it will show up. He is the only truly physical receiver the Giants have, so if they are facing a team with physical corners it will be obvious. There will also be no more double teams. Right now they are an easier team to figure out. And I am a Giants fan.

by Jinks on Dec 3, 2008 12:14 AM CST reply actions   0 recs

+1

Teams step it up a huge notch in the playoffs and you can always use a playmaker. They might not miss him now but his loss will come back to haunt them.

by Billito on Dec 3, 2008 9:08 AM CST up reply actions   0 recs

No double coverage

No need to double any of their recievers. Put 10 in the box and dare Eli to win it. The only time Toomer scares me is when he is lined up against Henry. Once they face a team with an offense that can score more than 14 they will get beat.

by GunsUp on Dec 3, 2008 12:17 PM CST reply actions   0 recs

The Giants

Will be just fine without Plaxico. They’ve rolled up huge passing numbers in 3 separate games without him this year. However…

Antonio Pierce is another story. If he ends up getting a suspension (which he should) for this then the Giants would be taking a hit they cannot afford.

by gee-roj on Dec 4, 2008 12:16 PM CST reply actions   0 recs

true

It will have the effect of Cheddar Bob shooting himself and Antonio Pierce..

Just because Antonio Pierce is cooperating doesn’t mean he didn’t break the law. I almost feel bad for them, but after the way they celebrated after beating up on Brad I have no remorse.
