MORNING AFTER-- WE ONLY NEED TWO THINGS IN THE LAST TWO WEEKS

Here we are, at 9-6 after a dispicable loss... but I looked at the way things shape up in the playoff race, and it's not as bleak as we all feel right now--

And disclaimer- you get no love here if you're of the opinion that you don't care if we make the tournament...

There are still two wild-cards up for grabs, and we only need to get one of them. I think by 7:30pm eastern tonight, we will control our destiny again.

The teams that are in our 'zone'...

Tampa Bay- vs San Diego 1pm.

It is very possible that this team will lose today to San Diego. The game is at 1, that means that San Diego thinks they still have a chance at winning the AFC West. Jeff Garcia is hobbled and Tampa just really isn't all that good. Tampa is currently a half game up on us, but we own the head to head tie breaker. One loss, and we're back ahead.

Atlanta @ Minnesota 4pm.

This is an interesting game in that Pat Williams is out and Peterson is nursing an ankle. However, would it be the shock of the century or even an upset if Minny wins? Nope. With a loss, Atlanta drops to 6-5 in the conference, meaning that a win over Philly gives us the better conference record than Atlanta.

Phil @ Washington 4:15pm

Game means ABSOLUTELY NOTHING NOW. Philly will only be a half-game up or down which means that the winner of the our game against each other will finish up in the standings.

Green Bay @ Chicago 8:15pm Monday

Game means ABSOLUTELY NOTHING NOW. IF Chicago gets to 10-6 and we get to 10-6, we'll have a better conference record and no head-to-head matchup. What they eat don't make us sh**.

And once the dance happens? There still isn't an NFC team I fear. We aren't losing to Tavaris Jackson or the Cardinals (the way they are playing now), and Carolina's defense is just waiting to be exposed. Are we scared of the Giants? Nope.

Maybe I smoke too much, because I'm already over last night's game. On to cheer for Minnesota and San Diego. If both win, we're back in control of the 5th spot.

It's a long season, and we've only turned into the homestretch, not completed it.

Virtual Regards,

It's still a long shot

and TB and ATL better lose today, because next week they play Oakland and St Louis, respectively.

I appreciate your point, but what should give us hope that they’ll be able to march into Philadelphia beat one of the hottest teams in the league (assuming they win today)?

because we are a better team than philly is

Thanks for the attempt at raising our spirits, but...

It pains me to say this, but Philly is a significantly better team than Dallas. They have far better coaching, a better quarterback and a better defense. They also have fewer injuries. And they are home next week, probably riding the momentum of a four game winning streak. Most importantly, Philadelphia knows how to win in December and the Dallas Cowboys fail miserably in December.

Leading the charge next week will be our leader, Tony Romo. Let’s see. He plays poorly in December, he plays poorly against good defenses, he plays poorly in big games and in limited opportunities he plays poorly in cold weather. If Dallas is somehow alive after today, the above will be an exact description of Romo’s challenge next week – a big game, in the cold, against a good defense in December. Next week is a recipe for disaster. This just in: the over/under on (picks + fumbles) for Romo next week is five.

The Dallas Cowboys will not find success in December and the playoffs until Romo matures as a quarterback. I see no sign of that happening whatsoever. As of right now, he is fools gold. All those gaudy stats he racks up early in the season are close to meaningless because when you need him to come through and carry the team when the season is on the line he fails. I believe he is one of the most overrated, over hyped players in the NFL today. He has the talent to change that but appears unable or unwilling to do so.

How is Romo less disciplined than several rookie quarterbacks? Flacco and Ryan are already far better game managers than Romo, who is in what, his sixth season? The biggest challenge facing the Cowboys this off-season is how to get Romo to mature as a quarterback or failing that, find a replacement.

i fear

i fear that romo has all the talent in the world but suffers from favre-itis – he wants to go out and toss the ball around and have run more than he wants to win.

discipline isnt a fun thing and its not a sandlot thing, but it is a championship thing.

I'd like to see how well Flaco or Ryan would do...

With zero protection and Jason Garrett calling their plays.

Sounds good to me.

George Teague did it all.

i am alone

in thinking that this team does not deserve to be in the playoffs?

i love the team, but i think they deserve to watch the playoffs from home.

and they deserve to have no one vote for any of them for the Pro Bowl next year. someone mentioned Dallas fans came up short by not stuffing Pro Bowl ballots like they did last year, heck i think Dallas fans got it right. if i had to see Ken Hamlin suit up in Honolulu I would puke.

BTW does anyone else think Romo plays in December like he just bought a time share in mexico for the middle two weeks of January and doesnt want to waste it?

why does any other team deserve it more?

if we qualify, we deserved it

i am not saying other teams deserve to be in the playoffs

i am saying the 52 guys on this team deserve to watch from home and realize that this season was an abject failure — from the number 1 seed to watching on TV in 12 short months.

i dont think this season should be wrapped up in any “we overcame adversity to qualify for the playoffs crap.”

i don’t think Romo deserves another shot to correct his ever growing reputation as “fools gold” and should be forced to stew on it for 11 months and live with the knowledge that no stats he puts up from Aug-Nov mean anything to anyone in Cowboys Nation until he puts together a great December and wins in the post season.

as a friend likes to say, “you cant just pick up a turd from its good end” and this season was a turd. it deserves to go down as such

The more I see Tony Romo play

the more I come to the conclusion that Fools Gold is the right analogy for him..

by Deke on Dec 21, 2008 11:58 AM CST up reply actions   0 recs

PS

Romo didn’t play on defense for either one of those huge runs to ice the game.

Just because we were the #1 seed last yaear and struggling this year doesnt mean we dont deserve to be in the playoffs.

the #2 seed last year was GB and they have done much worse than us. If we qualify we deserve it.

Romo looked great against Giants

and I think that game was played in December

In Romo we Trust

ok

lets look at Dec records and QB ratings and turnovers…

06
L@NYG 58.1 / 2
L vs NO 58.8 / 2
W@ATL 113.9 / 1
L vs PHI 45.5 / 2
L vs DET 111.6 / 3
07
W @ DET 110.4 / 0
L vs PHI 22.2 / 3
W @ CAR 81.2 / 0
L vs WAS 34.9 / 1
08
L @ PIT 44.9 / 4
W vs NYG 113.7 / 0
L vs BAL 66.2 / 2

The trend is awful and and not showing any sign of improvement. I think he can improve, but I am not sure if he will. Favre never did. Favre tossed moronic INT’s to end his last 2 playoff trips. Tony shows that same tendency.

I think Tony is capable of greatness, but I think the team would have done better this Dec with a Bernie Kosar, Jason Garrett, Steve Burlien type backup than with #9 playing his Dec ball.

We dont need Troy or Roger. We just can’t afford Neil O’donnell

This team deserves the playoffs if they win next week!

I understand how allot of you feel right now. A team that gives up 2 70+ yard runs when you know its comming dosent deserve the playoffs. HOWEVER, if they go into Philly and beat a team thats hot, talented and AT HOME Dallas in my mind will have earned the playoff bid. 10-6 isnt good for this current Dallas team but think about how many times 10-6 is good enough? It would be 4 games over 500. in the best divison in sports.

i think the falcons will lose

but im not sure the bucs will fall to the sub par chargers
as long as those two things happens then we win next week and atleast get a #6 seed if not a #5
we should just concentrate on getting into the playoffs if that proves possible and then winning a game
and then making a run, but the way we’ve been playing i dont see it
i will always root for the ’boys but things are looking iffy

Superbowl or Bust?
