Wes Welker Fined 10K for Snow Angel

http://www.boston.com/sports/football/patriots/reiss_pieces/2008/12/welker_fined_10.html

Patriots receiver Wes Welker has been fined $10,000 for making a "snow angel" in the team's 47-7 victory over the Cardinals on Sunday, colleague Christopher L. Gasper reports.

Unbelievable. I could look over the 10k fine for Shaun Ellis for throwing the snowball, because it could have (in some 1 in 1,999,999 million chance kinda way) hurt someone.

But this, is absolutely terrible. It's the holiday season, it was snowing, it's football. The term No Fun League is seriously underestimating the scroogeiness of the NFL.

Wow.

What also gets me...

That clip was played over and over on the highlight shows, sometimes even on the “NFL” Network…and it’s a great marketing clip.

Then they turn around and fine him.

Ugh...

This is just getting tiring. On one side, you can try to understand the NFL’s attempts at maintaining integrity of the players and the league and trying to make the league as professional as possible…

On the other hand, it feels like a league run by stuffy old codgers who refuse to admit that players having fun on the field may be a good thing.

What do you expect?

These are the same people who fined T.O. for waving a towel ON THE SIDELINES.

The No Fun League strikes again.

One small request...

Can we put things like this that aren’t Cowboys-related in the FanShots area? Whenever a new FanPost goes up it moves another one off the list. FanPosts should be Cowboys-related and they should have some meat to them. FanShots are for quick one-liners, off-topic things, stuff like that. Thanks.

Happy Holidays everyone.

You can't go to the ground.

I don’t know if TO was fined for his sprinter stance in the first game, but he was penalized, I believe. Of course, it’s a little hypocritical of the NFL to allow guys to kneel down and pray, but no one else is allowed to touch the ground. A guy should just say that that’s how they pray in his religion, by lying on the ground and waving your arms and legs.

Yeah TO got fined for that aswell

Hey, we agree on this one.

No pun intended. I’m no Patsy fan either.

Welker should do the “angel dance” after every TD the Pats score for the rest of the season. If they try to fine him, he should say he was stretching and call the NFLPA, have them sue the BS-L for harassment.

WW getting a fine for this “activity” is definitely BAD for the NFL’s precious brand image.

As Romo we go

I no Patriot fan at all

but Wes Welker doesn’t strike me as the type of player to show up other players. I thought it was funny and the fine is just dumb.

As fans

Can we start a petition and send to the NFL changing this rule? I watch the game to be entertained. The thing driving the NFL is the fanbase, why take away a little extra entertainment. I see nothing wrong with any celebration a person does after a touchdown, they made a great play, let them enjoy it.
