Early games open thread
The day has finally arrived. The Dallas Cowboys have a chance to rectify a rocky season by crashing the playoff party with a win over the Philadelphia Eagles. First, we have to wait for the early games to reach completion. The Eagles will be watching the scoreboard as they need the Bucs to lose and either the Vikings or Bears to lose. If that happens they will be playing Dallas with a playoff spot on the line, if they don't get that they'll be playing just to spoil our season.
This is an open thread for the early games.

We take care of business today and we couldn’t ask for a better situation.
I think NYG playing Tampa Bay last year
helped settle them down. Any of the NFC East teams could of won that game and gotten a playoff win.

TB can't get any offense going...
IF the Raiders can pull the upset, the Eagles only need either the Vikings OR the Bears to lose in order to play for a playoff spot.

More evidence of Officiating bias NY vs. Minn
3 & 6 for Vikes, safety blitzer has Jackson going over onto his back, Jackson throws it away JUST LIKE Flacco did going down last week deep in our territory. Result:. Jackson 13 yd loss/sack. Flacco incomplete pass. What BS. There IS Dallas bias by Officials.

That Doesn't Help Them In The Playoffs.
How many times have they rested their starters in the last game -only to go 1 and out in the post-season?

I'm loving the referee crew in the CHI/Min game...
They aren’t hurrying to blow a whistle and are letting the play continue through its entirety. Then afterwards, they get together and make a ruling. This allows coaches to challenge if needed instead of a backbreaking….“play is not challengeable due to being blown dead”

Our headcoach is a cupcake and certainly runs a camp and a team like a cupcake and his team can’t beat cupcakes like the Rams, so I don’t think I would uses cupcakes as an analogy when talking about other teans schedules when the cowboys themselves play like they resemble cupcakes at times this year..

Remember how popular vamps were in the 90s? then 2000s was zombies? I think that movie was the bridge in eras of pop horror.

Minn, Bears, and Tampa are all playing now…

The Eagles clinch a wild-card spot with a Philadelphia win and Tampa Bay loss and Minnesota loss

have Minn and Chi lose. Let the Bucs stuggle. Get the Eagles all psyched.

Just wondering
is goal tending legle in the NFL just saw a 65 yard free kick almost go for three points. And I was wondering if you can bat it away at the goal post if your the defense.
Nope. You can catch it, but can't interfere with a ball going through the uprights.
Therefore you can’t “catch” a ball either that has a chance of going through the uprights.

I’m always sure they are going to win, i can’t get into a game being pessimist. That sometimes changes during the course of a game, which doesn’t matter, beavuse with every loss, I get crush, no matter what
that sucks for Det .... 0-16 .... damn.

Hw’s playing for PIT
Cowboys fan since 1978.. I was 3 years old
I'll tell ya what
we better not be wearing our road blue unis today….that could mean trouble
In Romo we Trust
I don't know
I think the uniforms and what my son and I wear have a bearing on the outcome of the game.
no this team should play in the blues
until they prove they deserve the whites

not according to Al Davis...
“he’s a phenomenal player” lololol
by DieSlowKeyshawn on Dec 28, 2008 2:23 PM CST up reply actions
Haha, Al Davis also drafted a punter in the first round
Not to mention Sebastion Janikowski in the 1st
one year wonder in college
I was never a fan of his, thought the Raiders should of traded down and got more picks
Thats usually my solution for a lot of teams
But none of them ever do it. GM’s just love drafting skill positions.
Yeah, its gonna happen this year
Lions will draft Bradford rather than suiting their dire need for defense and offensive line
yeah, no doubt they'll take bradford with the first pick
but if I were them, I would be looking hard to get out of that number one slot
almost no one trades up to 1st pick
the 1st pick’s contract will financially hamstring a team
by AustonianAggie on Dec 28, 2008 2:36 PM CST up reply actions
there were suiters for the Raiders number one spot
but I agree, teams dont want the number one spot because of the contracts are ridiculous, but that’s about o change. The NBA slotted style draft is coming. NFL Veterans now want it more than anyone since they’re the ones getting sqeezed out becasue of the money rookie contracts demand..
That's all true but the fact of the matter is that Davis was stupid.
He had suitors and he just didn’t take them because he was enamored with Russell. I know the draft pick point value chart is big with the teams, and you’re almost never going to get what the #1 pick overall is worth, but sometimes that 1st pick, if you really want to or need to move it, is only worth what you can get for it. They could have moved down, still got a good QB, and a bunch of other players that would have helped their team and Davis blew it.
Nice running by #21 .... ALMOST stepped out of bounds

Exact same play at NY vs Minn
The safety comes on to make an INT and almost returned it….the play looked exactly the same as the Tampa Pakland play…..

funny thing is
we all hope for TB to win so the eagles are eliminated which then will mean TB will hope that Dallas loose so they’re in !
how ironic is that
Yup, Eagles are hoping for them to lose and they're hoping that the Eagles win, lol...

Well... no more
scoreboard “watching” for Philly, they’ve got to be on the field by now warming up… they won’t know until RIGHT BEFORE kickoff as to whether they have a chance or not. LETS GO BUCS!!! Looking like the only hope right now.
by DieSlowKeyshawn on Dec 28, 2008 2:42 PM CST reply actions
run down the scenarios...
so,
Philly needs Tampa Bay to lose, OR, Minnesota AND Chicago to lose? if either of those happens, they are still alive?
Isn’t tampa playing for the playoffs? WTF are they doing vs Oakland? Why is this not a total blow out?
If TB wins, eagles have no chance
i think thats it

Philly gets in with:
Win over Dallas
& TB LOSS & MIN LOSS OR CHI LOSS
by DieSlowKeyshawn on Dec 28, 2008 2:43 PM CST up reply actions
the odds of this are astronomical,
yet, it appears all three are going to lose. I cannot believe it. It’s going to be solely up to the Cowboys to take it for themselves. I’m gonna be sick.
We got help last week, Philly got the help today.
Best team will win and go to the playoffs. Just sucks the game is in Philly.

You want to know what I want to see from our Boys today??
I just want to see them play as hard as the Rams are playing today against a good team. Nothing in the world to play for, winning will hurt their draft position, and yet they are going toe-to-toe with a very good Atlanta team. Hopefully, the Cowboys play with the same heart.

exactly, I'd rather go win and get in, period
forget about everyone else…. If the bucs lose and minn or Chic lose, that’ will just make for an even better game..
Come on Lions ...
I’m hoping for ya!
They've done studies, you know. 60% of the time it works, every time.
shhhh, I have 4 to 1 odds on 250
I need them to lose, made the bet after week 6 that the lions wouldn’t win a game, brother in law is a lions fans….

I wonder if the reverse is true about momentum going into the game.
We thought Philly would be deflated knowing they didn’t have a chance. Now that the improbably odds have been secured, Philly will be ecstatic. Will Dallas be deflated?
by DieSlowKeyshawn on Dec 28, 2008 2:57 PM CST reply actions

I want Philly to play playoff football...
I want them playing for a spot…It’ll be all the more satisfying to end their season in their house. And every game in the playoffs is “do or die”. If we can’t win that kind of game to get in the tournament then we really don’t need to be there…but that’s just me.
Oakland stuffed at the goaline.
Will they go for it?
by DieSlowKeyshawn on Dec 28, 2008 3:01 PM CST reply actions
I was just in the midst of thoroughly cursing the football gods for Philadelphia's new-found life when i realized...
we’ve done this to ourselves….there were SEVERAL games we should have won, any of which would have (possibly) relieved us from being in today’s pressure situation. The good news is, we have a team that is MORE than capable of whipping the green birds a$$es today, even in their own house.
We have the physical weapons covered…so this will be a good test of our mental strength….the real question is – do the Cowboys want this win as bad as WE want it for them? I sure hope so, and being the eternal fan optimist, I say yes they do (want this win), and they will get their butts our there and take care of some business.
