Please stop....

As a 30+ year Cowboys fan, watching you guys pick apart the team, and especially Tony Romo is pretty disheartening. I know this loss hurts, but scapegoating any ONE player for yesterdays loss is just being petty. I'd suggest that you let the pain go away first BEFORE you analyze anything. Everyone is waaaaay too emotional right now, and looking too blame. I've seen everyone except Rodney Hannah thrown under the bus by a wide assortment of folk, both Cowboys fans, and not.

Yesterdays loss was the first total team effort(excepting Jason Witten) I've seen out of the Boys since Cleveland. They ALL collectively laid down and died yesterday, it was pathetic, and sad, but at least they did it together.

I only ask that everyone stop with the harsh indictments and let the pain go away first. Logical rational analysis is not possible in an overly emotional state, and everyone is still hurting, so please I beg of you guys, stop.

Being a fan of any football team you must realize that MOST season end in a defeat. I've been a fan since Super Bowl VI, and in the years since The Cowboys have been to the Superbowl 6 times, and winning 4 times. All the others season ended in heartbreak, and a lot of the same crass carping criticisms that I'm seeing today. Roger was always blasted for trying to "Do too much", and "scrambled his way into trouble".

If you can't deal with losing being a fan will drive you nuts. This years team underacheived, or maybe not. Talent alone isn't the only factor in winning, No one indivdual player can be blamed for the disappointment that was this last season, no one coach, not Jerry, not even God.

I'll be back for the next season, and I'll support this team. I'm not going to criticize, at this point it won't do any good. Fix the problem, not blame.

Superbowl or Bust?

very good post!

couldn’t have said it better. Teams win and lose games, not individual players.

Calling out the team is appropriate, calling out individual players is flat out wrong!

People can call out whoever they like, there is nothing wrong with that.

When a player has a terrible game and has a major contribution to the loss it is fine for fans to say that. The only reason you dont like the calling out of individual players is that when one player loses a game it is more often than not the qb, and every one knows how you feel about our qb.

Who determines what is right or fair? you? me?

I love your undying support of Romo, but I need to see a more balanced Terry who says Romo has stunk it up a few times this year. Until then, the Romo-can-do-no-wrong thing is as unfair as any of the posts to the contrary.

Come on Terry, give me SOMETHING here!!!

I've never once said Romo is without fault

but this constant bashing of him is ridiculous. Romo is a big reason this team is even competitive in most games, without him we aren’t even close to being a .500 team.

That's ridiculous.

If Romo wasn’t here, Jerry would have found another quality player to take his place, whether through free agency or the draft.

Jerry find a QB?

I guess if you liked Quincy Carter, Chad Hutchinson, Ryan Leaf, Clint Stoerner, Anthony Wright, etc. he could find someone to keep you happy…

He does real well with backup QBs too…

Garrett needs to get a clue!

by Terry on Dec 30, 2008 2:02 PM CST up reply actions   0 recs

What about Romo?

Going through all of those guys, didn’t he find Romo? Say what you will about Quincy, but he took us to 10-6 and a first round playoff loss, and the rest of the team was less talented than the team we have now. There were solid rookie QBs this year, Brady Quinn, free agents such as Drew Brees, etc. By that point, we had Romo.

Saying that Jerry wouldn’t have found a quality QB if we hadn’t found Romo is like telling your wife that she has bad taste in men.

by Baked Potato Soup on Dec 31, 2008 8:54 AM CST up reply actions   0 recs

no thats ridiculous..actually absurd

If finding a franchise qb was so easy then why doesn’t every team have one?

We couldn’t find a quality backup for crying out loud and you think Jerry could just snap his fingers and find a legitimate starting qb? Hysterical, absolutely hysterical.

Like Parcells used to say, just go to 1-800- dial-up-qb, no problem. LOL!!!!!!!!!!

Do you honestly think that every bad play a qb makes is on the qb?

There’s so much more depth to this TEAM GAME than that. Each of the other 10 players have to do their job to make the QB successful. One missed route, one missed block, and the qb is the bad guy.

Thats not what I said.

I said that because the qb is so important and hass so much influence on the game, that if one player is going to decied the outcome either positively or negatively it is most likely the qb.

Except when you do it?

Why is it okay to criticize the offensive line, defensive players, and WRs, but not the QB? If it’s inappropriate to say Romo played poorly, is it not equally inappropriate to say that the line failed to protect him or that the WRs did not run good routes, or all of the other things that everyone else on the team does that forces Romo to repeatedly turn the ball over?

by Baked Potato Soup on Dec 29, 2008 8:17 PM CST up reply actions   0 recs

I'm not calling out individual players

I say OL, not Flo, Procter, I say WRs, not T.O., RW or Crayton, I say defense which encompasses 12 players.

I’m also not saying Romo is without fault, but to say its all on him, that he is a proven choker, is absolutely absurd when its a team game.

In Romo we Trust

by Terry on Dec 29, 2008 8:23 PM CST up reply actions   0 recs

I don't think people ARE saying it's ALL on him.

But a lot of it is on him, at least as much as is on any other player. When you call out the OL, you are calling out 5 individuals. We all know who they are. Does that mean it’s okay for people to say the QBs played awful, as long as they don’t single out Romo by name?

no, T.O. is part of the problem Him and RW have no idea how to run routes which is way Romo throws into coverage at times. If they ran the correct routes, Romo would have the ball on the money every time.

Wasn’t that you?

Here it is..

Williams defends himself:

Roy Williams said he wasn’t fazed by Troy Aikman’s criticisms about the receiver’s route-running skills on the Fox broadcast.

Williams and Romo didn’t appear to be on the same page when Romo threw a pass that was easily intercepted by the Eagles’ Sheldon Brown late in the second quarter.

“I respect the man and his three, four, five, seven rings or however many he has,” Williams said. "When I turned around, the guy had the ball. So I don’t know what happened. But I hear on TV that Troy Aikman tried to blame it on me. And that’s not me.

“I’m a guy that stands up. I stand up for my mistakes. I didn’t have a mistake on that one.”

by Boyzfan94 on Dec 29, 2008 9:28 PM CST up reply actions   0 recs

That pass was clearly on Romo.....a poorly thrown ball to a WR that wasn't even looking..a few of those were thrown...

I knew it wasn’t on RW….Aikman’s a friggin tool nowadays…

I agree Smitty

Tough for me to calm down. I just can’t believe this team was that talented and didn’t make the playoffs. I need someone or something to blame. 9 months before another meaningful game just drives me nuts.

Well said Smitty

A lot of people turned off the game early, I didn’t, I suffered through to the bitter embarrassing end. But, I did stop commenting and log off BTB after reading some of the outrageous statements thrown around right after last night’s loss.

I’ll probably take a break from this site for a while.

Not me...

I watched the whole game, and in the second half after Romo fumbled I started to laugh. At that point nothing was going right, and it just seemed funny. When Barber fumbled (and it was again returned for a TD) I nearly fell in the floor. It was then I knew this is one of those days when nothing WAS going to go right, and all you could do was laugh. For some reason…know only to the big GM in the sky we were going down, and that was all there was to it. I’ve seen better, I’ve seen worse( well not much worse ) and the only thing you can do, is get up and start over again from the beginning.

by SmittyCityMo on Dec 30, 2008 4:30 AM CST up reply actions   0 recs

I hung in there too...

Even though I agonized over the way the team was playing I got some twisted joy out of watching Jerry (the GM) squirm in the press box as things got progressively worse. I view Jerry as a split personality. Jerry the owner is one of the best in the league in terms of ponying up his money to improve the team and doing positive things for the NFL in general. Unfortunately Jerry the owner has Jerry the GM spending that money and making some very bad decisions. As long as Jerry the GM is in charge of the personnel decisions team chemistry is secondary to the “WOW” factor.

Beginning of next year

I refuse to drink any Kool-aid being sold by any sports website, with their prognostications on a season that hasn’t begun yet. First off, the Boys were picked to unceremoniously waltz straight to the Superbowl while the other 31 teams were suppose to drool with envy at our “weapons” and stand aside. However this season more than most in recent memory was a continuous feed of obstacles and drama and injuries. Like watching a train try to slow down for the stalled vehicle in the tracks, it just kept getting worse and worse. And the media, like a school of piranha, started feeding till there was only bones left.
I am actually looking forward to next season when our guys are fully rested and healthy and the gods of bad luck decide maybe we’ve had enough and move on to another team. I want a healthy Barber, a healthy Felix, a healthy Witten, Romo, RW2, OL, etc. I’m excited that maybe this defense can play even better if our offense puts together some clock consuming drives. I’m excited to see if there’s any way on Gods’ green earth we can draft like we did last year and maybe score and few more linemen, a free safety or two, etc. I do not want the coaching or the core nucleus of this team changed much, I just want the injuries minimized. Maybe the less I ask for the more likely I’ll get it.

Please understand....

With a forum like this you have the opportunity to vent. You don’t have to be logical. Everyone has the opportunity to express their opinion, whether it is unanimously agreed on or not.

For example, my opinion for the last two years which culminated in the last game of this season is the Hillbilly Clown we have at HC was a poor choice but he continues to reduce this team even more that I thought any one man capable in such a short amount of time. If you say the team quit together, I look to one person only, WP.

Now, whether you agree with that or not is immaterial. And for another opinion, Romo brought this on himself, not the way he played sunday but his comments afterwards. When real fans are stinging after an a$$-whipping and you come out and reduce it to just another game, you are pouring salt in the wound. I’m not nearly as down on Romo as everyone else is but his reflection after the game basically mirrors his HC’s attitude which I cannot allow silently

Romo plays the most visible position for the most visible franchise in American sports. As such, he offers himself up to criticism. His taciturn attitude IS a reason we are even in this mess as fans. His French Quarter attitude towards losing is what has me angry…and his pee-wee league penchant for putting the ball on the ground when there is ample opportunity to get rid of it. Tony lives for the SportsCenter highlight without paying attention to the details necessary to know when a play is dead and dump it. He deserves the criticism he’s getting. His December/January career can be defined by the word, “fail.”

by Tech92 on Dec 30, 2008 4:34 PM CST reply actions   0 recs

I love the guy, but he does deserve the criticism he gets..

I only wish it would make him stronger and more determined to get better……like devoting his whole off season to working out, and getting together with Roy, Witten, and TO, and whoever else wants to join in on their own going over routes and progressions…

forget OTA’s…come march or april these guys should be solving their differences, bonding, and getting reps with each other……i know it’s not required, but it would be beneficial for all parties…….and yes…these guys workout throughout the offseason, so i don’t think running routes will be overkill, or too much work on their free time…
