How good is our backup center?? Why dont we put Gurode at guard?
I know you dont want to make two changes to fix one problem, but Cory Proctor is a VERY BIG problem.
Someone with greater X's and O's knowledge than me, please educate me on the blocking complexities of playing center against those of playing guard.
Also, is the center the only one on the offensive line to dictate at-the-line assignment changes? Is he the only one allowed to point and move, can't a guard do this before he goes down in his stance?
Put Gurode at LG, let him still make all the line calls, and put someone else in at center.
At this point, I think something drastic has to be attempted to fix the line. We are a mediocre team because of that one, left guard position. We're great when it's Kosier/Holland-- who at the best would be considered 'good' players, and we are mediocre when that line has a weak link. Don't you do anything to correct that, including unorthodox thinking?

You trust Proctor at center I dont, Gurode is a right guard anyway
and you dont start moving players around along the line at this point of the season. Your best bet is to fill the spot where the starter is out. I wouldn’t have a problem either trying Mcquistan or even Berger at this point at left guard, Proctor is decent in the running game but gets pushed back all the time in passing situations…

agreed
I would love to see another player get a shot, not sure playing a team with great interior lineman, and complicated blitz packages is the right team to try them out against..
Tough call, that is why they pay JG and Wade millions of dollars to make those decisions. Team has been a little slow pulling the trigger.
Brad Johnson
Proctor and Proctor again..

Proctor is the backup Center.
Oooh, that would be painful to watch. The middle of the line would cave in every single play.

We did try Gurode at guard some time ago
It didn’t work out too well

that was before he got his shot at center, correct?
I think his blocking ability, in general, has stepped up far beyond those days

Yeah, but since Procter is also the backup center, you'd really just be moving the problem 4 feet to the right

No way
Keeping Gurode at center is a no-brainer as they say. He went from a potentially good but ultimately frustrating RG, to being among the best centers in the NFL. I don’t imagine there is any discussion about moving him.
I hope Holland is well enough to play Sun night, but if not I expect to see Procter even though I agree, he’s not good for an entire game. I really wish they would let Free try it, but if he couldn’t beat Procter out by now, I guess the Dallas coaches don’t think he’s the answer.

I think McQuisten should be given a shot
He and Procter are always active on gameday anyway, so if a tackle were injured, McQ could go there and then Procter can come in as the 4th option at LG, where he belongs

Look McQ evidently sucks
They tried him at Guard in the Minnesota preseason game, I know late in the game he was getting killed by 3rd stringers and scrubs: Then you have to look at Flo, he was evidently a better option with a sore shoulder and a balloon for a hand than McQ. Now I know that he is the Float Tackle, but man he sure doesn’t get in there to even spell Flo or Colombo much at all does he? You would think if he was at least average he would get a series or a snap here and there, Seems to me this guy is an a emergency linemen only.

I realize that
But Procter should be no more than an emergency linemen also. I guess my question is: Is there a chance that McQ is just horrible, as opposed to Procter’s being REALLY horrible?

all of our backup guards are horrible
otherwise we wouldn’t have traded for Holland.

we need to scrap all of our depth chart heroes at OL
and go sign some others. ours aren’t worth having if they’re not even capable of seeing the field in backup scenarios. if proctor’s our best, we’re consistently wasting space on depth charts on these guys.
at this point, put WP in at guard. he couldn’t suck worse than proctor
I commented. You're welcome.
