Colombo is a really big Flozell fan
Marc Colombo thinks the Cowboys should re-sign Flo because he's really good and so it doesn't disrupt the chemistry of the line. Here's what he says about his teammate.
"Show me a better tackle," Colombo said. "I think he’s the best pass blocking left tackle in all of football. I’m hoping they do (re-sign him), because he’s a good friend of mine and it keeps the offensive line together. He’s the only one now that’s free. If they can sign him, it’s huge."
"He’s an unbelievable left tackle and I think he had one of the best years he’s ever had here last year," Colombo added. "He has plenty of years left, and he goes out every week and shuts down unbelievable defensive ends. That’s all you can ask for in a left tackle."
"It’s invaluable," Colombo said. "It’s unbelievable to keep what you have and just be able to build on it. People leaving or signing somewhere else, it adds a different chemistry. I think we have the right mix and the right chemistry now to do some pretty good things."
I agree with Marc. Although some fans think we'll be okay with either Free or McQuistan at LT next season, neither one is close to being as good as Flo. He's also right about chemistry along the line as there isn't a position in football that needs it more than the O line. Hopefully Jerry can get a reasonable contract done without killing our cap.

4 years / 21 million
What veterans are looking for (especially) on their last contract is GUARANTEED money. Of course that means $igning Bonu$.
From every thing I’ve seen written, Flo really wants to play out his career in Dallas, but how much of a discount will he give the boys to do that, and how many more years can he play at a high level?
I am confident Flo can play at a high level for at least 2 more years, and I don’t think as many as 4 is totally out of the question.
So how much money?
I think he will want at least 8 million guaranteed. I believe someone else will offer him more; there are many teams that don’t have quality LTs that will pony over big bucks to get him. But, I think he will take less to stay with Dallas (8 vs 10 or 11).
The going rate is 7 million per year. With the Cowboys current CAP situation, that means you would want to backload the contract as much as possible.
3 YEAR CONTRACT (21 Million total, 8 Million $igning Bonu$).
That means his salary must = 13 million over the three years. To get the salary as low as possible in 2008, and meet the 30% rule on increases would result in:
[year] salary (CAP charge)
[2008] 3.3 (5.97), [2009] 4.25 (6.92), [2010] 5.45 (8.12).
4 YEAR CONTRACT (28 Million total, 8 Million $igning Bonu$).
That means his salary must = 20 million over the four years. To get the salary as low as possible in 2008, and meet the 30% rule on increases would result in:
[year] salary (CAP charge)
[2008] 3.24 (5.24), [2009] 4.21 (6.21), [2010] 5.47 (7.47), [2011] 7.08 (9.08).
WHICH CONTACT IS CHEAPER ?
3 year contract = 21 M
4 year contract with Flo cut after the 3rd year, 18.92 + 2 M bonus acceleration = 20.92 M.
What if you cut Flo after the 2nd year?
3 year contract with Flo cut after the 2nd year, 12.89 + 2.67 M bonus acceleration = 15.56 M.
4 year contract with Flo cut after the 2nd year, 11.45 + 4 M bonus acceleration = 15.45 M.
CONCLUSION
Signing Flo to a 4 year contract would free up $730 K of valuable CAP space in 2008 and is slightly cheaper over the first 3 years.
so much for Wahle...
As seen on Pro Football Weekly:
Free-agent guard Mike Wahle is a free agent no more.
Wahle told the Afternoon Blitz on Sirius NFL Radio that he has signed a contract with the Seattle Seahawks.
The deal reunites Wahle with former Packers coach Mike Holmgren, who selected Wahle in the second round of the 1998 supplemental draft.

I didn't want Wahl anyway
There is a reason why he was cut. We can't afford to sign anymore free agents on the OL.
Charlene Williams said this morning on ESPN First Take the Cowboys are not going to franchise Adams and it appears they will let him test the market.
This means one thing if true. They want Hamlin here more than Adams. I'm in agreement. Get Hamlin signed then see if they can bring Adams back at a reasonable offer. If not, bye-bye and let one of the young guys fill the role.
