FA Wishlists?

Well, count me in the camp for liking the Flozell signing.  No matter how long we think Romo will be around, there's no denying our window to win a SB is at hand; these opportunities are rare and fleeting, and need to be seized.  While not impossible, trying to win a SB with an unproven 3rd- or 4th-round draft pick at LT is  both extremely difficult and risky.  To me, the Romo extension demanded Flo be re-signed.  A literal protection of investment by da JJ.  I'm one of his biggest haters as a GM, but I applaud JJ the owner for this shrewd move.  I gotta think Flo gets WAY more than 15 mil guaranteed on the open market.

Star-divide

Now, on the to the Free Agent Wishlists!

By my estimation, the Cowboys had 12-15 million to play with before tendering/signing MB3, Flo & Canty.  While this is a 'wish' list, I think we should keep the cap in mind for obvious reasons.

When I compiled this list, I used the 1st & 3rd round tender I thought the Boys should use to calculate MB3's '08 cap hit, the 1st round tender I thought was appropriate for Canty, and with the news of Flo's re-signing fresh off the presses, I'm now taking a swinging-guess at Flo's '08 cap hit.

Listed in order of priority

'08 cap-hit in bold

  1. M. Barber, RB (Dal)  2.5M
  1. F. Adams, LT (Dal)  4.5M
  1. K. Hamlin, FS (Dal)  4M
  1. C. Canty, DE (Dal)  2M
  1. Mewelde Moore, RB (Min)  1.5M

And that'll do it, as the above add-up to 14M by my count, and I'm not even sure if the Boys have that much.

Re-signing MB3, Flo & Canty were relative no-brainers.

But I'd REALLY like us to get our hands that Moore kid out of Minnesota.  The quintessential 3rd down back: catches the ball well, operates well in space, and is surprisingly effective running between the tackles.  He's a little smallish for pass protection, but capable.  Personally, I think this guy is extremely underrated, especially since AD's arrival in Minny.  He was VERY productive as a rookie during Moss' last year in Minny when called upon due to injuries to the other RBs.  If you can stretch the field like we can/Minny did then, he can be very effective.

Assuming the Cowboys have some cap space left, who would you guys like to see the Cowboys sign?

Did you guys have a wishlist last year?  If so, post it!  Here was mine from last year:

**FREE AGENTS*

  1. Ken Hamlin, S  SEA
  1. Leonard Davis, LT  AZ (but I'd like to see him at LG; move the versatile Kosier to RG & CUT Rivera...btw, is he still willing to give back that signing bonus????)
  1. Josh Brown, K  SEA
  1. Andre Gurode, C  DAL
  1. Marc Colombo, RT  DAL

If we sign any outsiders

I prefer it be in the defensive backfield and low cost at that. As for Moore, I think a rookie 2nd rounder or 1st rounder will be better at RB. This is supposed to be a good year. No names as the low cost guys are under the radar.

I hear ya

about drafting MB3's compliment this year, but I just get extremely nervous thinking about a rookie carrying the load if Barber were to go down.  Moore's at least done it before and has 4 years of service under his belt.

Sure would like to know what caused T. Thompson's sudden fall from grace...thought he had a little potential.

As for Thompson

I never heard anyone say he learned to block. That was the reason Coach Parcells used to keep him on the bench,

Missing Zach Thomas...

from that list of signees.  I would guess that Jerry's work is done for awhile.  We'll probably sit back and watch the action, and then take a look at what below market value scraps are left after the dust settles.  Of course, there are potential trades (Fergy) or restructures (TO) that could free up additional cap space.

I like Moore.  However, assuming that we grab a top back on the first day of the draft, it's probably more likely that we'll go the route of undrafted FA to fill the roll of #3 RB.

What I would not mind seeing is the Cowboys taking a guy like Carl Stewart or Jacob Hester on the second day of the draft.  I feel like either of these two guys could contribute as the #3 RB and the #2 FB, which would save us a roster spot to carry an extra WR (Miles Austin?).  Just a thought.

We also can't forget about Alonzo Coleman.  With a year under his belt on the practice squad, he might be able to assume a larger role on the 53-man.  The problem with Coleman is that he needs to get better at blocking and because he was the star RB at Hampton he never had to play special teams.

This was just my personal 'wishlist'

of players I'd like to see the Cowboys sign/re-sign this offseason...and Z. Thomas was not on it.

very well said regarding Flo, Starred4Life

Very Shrewd move by Jerry, it had to be done.

Regarding FAs, I say just sign our own and fill in any holes through the draft.

If MBIII is the answer
Then Moore plus whatever lower round draft pick becomes an attractive backup to the Barbarian.

But wasn't Moore involved with the Whizzinator incident?  I forget; the Vikings had an interesting season going on at the time.

Yeah, and Onterrio "Whizzinator" Smith...

... just totally pi__ed his career down the toilet with that one stooooooooooooooopid move!!!

Moore was lucky that (a) he still had a job, (b) he still had a career, (c) he was only suspended for four games, and most importantly... (d) he still gets paid more -- and will get paid even more than more -- jack than the average working man.
