Asante Samuel

Looks like the Eagles have signed the former New England Cheatriot. The article says 6 years, i heard it was supposed to be around 60 million, quite a big price tag for the man that could have won the Superbowl and choked.

They also are now supposedly shopping either Lito Shepard or Sheldon Brown, both of whom I wouldn't mind playing with a star on their helmet. I think the Iggles will probably as too much for our liking though.

As much as I would love to take Shepard...

We couldn't afford either.  I was also going to say that Philly wouldn't trade with us, but last year's draft makes me think otherwise.

Anyone know what their contracts look like?

by grapejoos on Feb 29, 2008 4:30 PM CST reply actions   0 recs

lito's contract

per PFT:

Sheppard is under contract for four more seasons, with base salaries of $2 million in 2008, $3 million in 2009, $3.7 million in 2010, and $4.25 million in 2011.

pretty cap friendly

let's give up our 2nd rounder on LIto...

damn...that is a sweet deal...maybe 2-2nd rounders...'08-'09.....not too sure how he's fallin' on bad graces though...he have injury issues ?..really haven't heard much of him lately..

but that contract would be qwesome ot absurb....although he's probably grumbling about a new deal....

For sure

I just can't understand why the Eagles would unload him unless the injuries were a problem.  He's a cheap, very good CB.  That's pretty much one of the most valuable things you can have.  Why they would trade him for a pick just to sign Samuel to a $10m/year deal is beyond me.

I'd give up any pick to get him if he's healthy and willing to play out his contract.  Big ifs.

I love

how the Eagles continue to ignore the position that is their greatest weakness (receiver). Of course, that works out just fine for us.

There are two Adrian Petersons, but there is only one Marion Barber.

Pump and go to Owens

Every single play against Samuels.

Every. Single. Play.

You find out life's this game of inches, so is football. Because in either game - life or football - the margin for error is so small.

It would be a mistake

to even put Samuel on TO. Complete mismatch, I think he is overrated to begin with, and when he is good it playing against finesse receivers. He does have an affinity to jump routes though.

Then again, the only way to slow TO is double coverage anyway.

First to six!!!

There are some crazy rumors flying around

that the eagles will make a play for Fitzgerald.  I also saw on DMN blog that Denver outright released Walker.  He is tight with Sherman so he may want to come to Dallas for little $ but I'd be awfully wary of those knees.  Maybe he would sign a one year contract a la Hamlin to prove his worth.

Fitzgerald

I would hate to see this guy twice a year.

First to six!!!

Fitzgerald's contract

I don't see how he could be traded.  If you haven't seen, he has an INSANE contract, something like a $14.5 million cap hit for this year.  I can't imagine Philly would take that on, or that Arizona would take what is sure to be enormous cap hit in trading him.

$14.5 million cap hit

That's obscene.

Check it out

Lito Sheppard to the Cardinals. And ... wait for it ... Larry Fitzgerald to Philly.

That's all conditional on the Eagles signing Patriots free agent Asante Samuel, something that several reports, including this one, have as a done deal.

The idea makes sense of several fronts. First, Arizona is planning to move former first-round pick Antrell Rolle inside to safety, where he'd be paired with Adrian Wilson, and the Cardinals have been quiet on free-agent corners despite a looming need. Second, the Eagles have a considerable amount of cap room -- they would even after signing Samuel -- and the Cardinals would create space to extend Sheppard by dealing Fitz. Third, the Eagles' offense has been in perpetual need of a big-time wideout, save for the one great season they got out of T.O.

From the DMN blog

No sir, I don't like it

Though it's apparently contingent on Fitz renegotiating his contract.  He's owed $31 million over the next 2 years, per the DMN blog comments.  Good luck trying to get him to take less than that to go play in Philly!  I know if I were him I would be content to be the highest paid player in the NFL for the next 2 years.

I don't want to see this guy twice a year, I like the Eagles just fine with their pitiful WRs.

BTW, some info on Sheppard's deal...doesn't seem that bad:

Contract Information for Lito Sheppard

11/6/2004: Signed a five-year, $25 million contract extension through 2011. The deal included an $8.7 million signing bonus. 2008: $2 million (+ $1.45 million in bonuses), 2009: $3 million, 2010: $3.7 million, 2011: $4.25 million, 2012: Free Agent. Cap charge: $3.45 million (2008).

by the way

This Fitz to Eagles talk is, for all we know, an UNSUBSTANTIATED RUMOR.  Nobody freak out yet!

I'd sure like to get Sheppard.

that's a sweet contract to take over.....doubt Philly would trade him to us though..
