But Wait, There's More - Another Silly Season Rumor
I think the silly season has taken a sharp wide receiver turn with vets like Randy Moss, Javon Walker, DJ Hackett, and Larry Fitzgerald in the batch of NFL Free Agency article lately.
And just to add to that growing list, we have the latest on Fitzgerald's starting partner in crime, yes the other WR-Anquan Boldin.
According to profootballtalk.com, once the Arizona Cardinals completed the process of converting Fitzgerald's old contract into a new deal, it would only be a matter of time before AB wanted his.
Throw in the fact that Boldin is represented by Drew Rosenhaus, and the stage is set for Boldin to start making noise about moving on.
So here's what could happen...
According to Adam Schefter of NFL Network, Anquan Boldin could want more money and/or a trade in the wake of Fitzgerald's $10 million-per-year contract.Per Schefter, some in the Cardinals organization actually regard Boldin as the better wideout. But Boldin will make far, far less than Fitzgerald over the next three seasons -- he's due to earn base salaries of $2.5 million, $2.75 million, $3 million.
Well, the front burner's starting to simmer right now, but it won't be long before the heat brings this situation to full boil.
Another wide receiver's pride being hurt again... not real news if you think about it. The only difference is it's a WR with a different name. Why da heck are receivers so dang mercurial?!?!
Oh yeah, and of course, the link - www.profootballtalk.com/rumormill.htm - had this as the final line of that lil piece:
Possible destinations are Philly, Dallas, and the Redskins.
Again, the stinkin' mediots gotta include America's Team in da mix. Sheesh.

that is hysterical
I'll never understand how the media or even fans think we can afford 2 WRs making around 8-10 mil a year, its just not possible.
Right now we are only 4 mil under the cap, the only kind of players we can sign are bargain basement FAs for a mil a year or less.
All of this talk of guys like Moss, Fitzy, Chad Johnson and Roy Williams signing or being traded to the Cowboys is beyond silly, just ridiculous.

Hysterical is right, Terry...
By classifying it up as "rumor," it gives the writer a license to practice lazy, irresponsible journalism (you know, like those guys over there @ BSPN - The Worldwide Leader in Sh__).
Back to this diary.
I could see Philly signing Boldin. But would they wanna deal with TO's agent again. To me, that could be the only obstacle the Eagles would have to overcome.
But like you said, there's no way Dallas can afford that Boldin with so little cap room left and two first rounders in the upcoming April '08 Draft.

ummmm....diagree....
Boldin is signed for the next three years....NOBODY is assured a new contract everytime they are traded, This is something that could be addressed after next season...
Boldin is scheduled to make $2.5 million in base salary this season, $2.75 million in base salary in 2009 and $3 million in base salary in 2010.
That certainly fits under our current cap status.
I'd be all over this if it presents itself,
Say our #28 and a 4th.....do it Jerry ...do it...

Yeah, but he wouldn't play it out
Boldin is likely going to hold out if he doesn't get a new deal. He probably won't play out that contract, because he can force a trade to a team that will renegotiate if he wants to do so. Trading for him would only guarantee future headaches and another player we couldn't afford to keep. If he gets traded, he will certainly expect a renegotiation. And if he is going to honor the contract, Arizona would be absolutely insane to trade him, because he's making 1/3 what he's worth.
Silly season. Here's hoping the Eagles don't get him.

joos is right boyz, Boldin would hold out
if he were forced to play under that contract. The whole purpose of the trade for him would be to make more money. If he's willing to play for that money he might as well stay in Arizona.

Totally agree sb5
Anything to the contrary is fantasy or trying to stir things up, as we've seen repeatedly.

Cardinals
I found this article on SI.com about the Cardinals situation. Apparently their front office prefers to not do contracts with voidable years, making it harder to keep their own free agents.
It's no secret that Dansby would like to get a multiyear deal done rather than play under the one-year franchise tender, and Boldin is expected to seek a raise now that his deal averages $4.335 million a year less than Fitzgerald's. In fact, Boldin is scheduled to receive base salaries of "only" $2.5-3 million over the next three seasons. Wilson, one of the league's top safeties, also is said to be seeking a new pay hike after signing a five-year extension in 2004 that averages almost $6 million a year less than Fitzgerald's.

Bovine Dung
Possible destinations are Philly, Dallas, and the Redskins.
Philly maybe, but Dallas doesn't have the cap room, and Washington DEFINITELY doesn't have the cap room. At the end of the 2007 season, they were $22 million over. I'm pretty sure they've got that whittled down by now, but they don't have the room to bring anybody in at all.
Rumors are nice and sometimes humorous, but they should at least be somewhat based on reality. None of the stuff we've heard these past couple of months has been.

Pass
we already have our own Boldin, his name is Stanbach.

If Stanback
turns out to be Boldin, then the Cowboys have made one of the greatest "steal picks" in recent draft history.

Hope his foot is totally healed &@ full strength
For that would give him a chance to be a real contributor -- in a variety of ways.
He'd be the newest member of "The Slash Club."
Other members include:
- Anquan Boldin
- Antwaan Randle-El
- Hines Ward
- Patrick Crayton
- Matt Jones
Honorary Retiree:
- Kordell Stewart, the modern-day founder
Did I leave out any other members?

one of my all time favorite Cowboys
Drew Pearson, he played some QB at Tulsa back in the early '70s.

I've always loved me some Drew Pearson, and...
... when Playmaker was a rookie in Landry's last season as HC of Dallas, I would push that Playmaker was gonna be a good one, but that Drew Pearson was "The Original #88."
And this was before TO came up with his "I'm The Original 81" statement.
Long story short, I'm with you on that Terry... Pearson is one of my all time faves, too.
Add him to the Honorary Retiree List of The Slash Club.
