Dunn In Dallas?
With news of RB Michael Turner's signing in Atlanta, the release of veteran RB Warrick Dunn seems a forgone conclusion. Could Dallas be a possible landing spot. With the draft looming, many Cowboy fans have visions of a 1st round running back dancing in their heads, but hear this one out.
Warrick Dunn is still extremely quick and elusive though his top end, breakaway speed may have diminished a bit. He is still and excellent reciever and despite his size is one of the leagues best at blitz pick-up. Dunn simply does not fumble and is the ultimate locker room presence (Thats why we signed an over the hill Zach Thomas right?). His unique skill set seems to make him an ideal contrast to Marion Barber's wreckless punishing style.
At this phase of his career, Dunn would likely come at a cap friendly price. With Dunn in the fold the Cowboys would ease the pressure to select a running back so early in the draft. Signing Dunn would also provide a buffer to keep any rookie back from being thrust into too big of a role should he not be ready. You know a veteran like Dunn could eat a playbook in about a day, and should be ready to jump right in from the word go.
In short, I am advocating the signing of Warrick Dunn.

always been one of my favorites...
I'd welcome his leadership and intangibles..at a very low price...like veteran league minimum., no more 1 million/per. I would like Warrick Dunn here.
If it's a championship he seeks...there is no better place than Dallas to be at...It's all up to him..

At the right price, absolutely.
He'd be a pretty nice, change of pace, third down back...
I'd still want to draft another RB, but bringing in Dunn would give the Cowboys more flexibility on Draft Day. 1st round RB wouldn't become almost a complete necessity, and we wouldn't have to worry about needing to reach or trade up to fill that hole. Just enhances the opportunity to take the best player available.

only if we can get him cheap, really cheap

Dunn is 33 years old
why does everyone think signing another teams older rejects, especially over thirty is a smart move, it isn't..
Zach Thomas was signed because the organization thought he would be a better option than Akin Adoyele or anyone else on the roster at the weak inside linebacker position, not because of his socalled presence in the locker room, Locker room presence of a player is very over rated.

thats not true, its the very reason we lost
in the playoffs and continue to falter down the stretch. Locker room leadership cannot be overvalued.

not leadership..

leadership has nothing to do with execution
I guess thats why the Patriots lost, no leadership!!!

thats why they went 18-0
I strongly disagree that leadership doesn't play a vital role in team chemistry and success. 53 players need leadership to be successful, whether its from the coach or players and with Wade as HC, its certainly not coming from him.

leadership affects preparation and focus which in turn directly affects execution.

I disagree

We only have one RB under contract.
Warrick dunn would provide a great change of pace to MBIII and a mentor to whichever RB we pick up in the draft.
In short I think,at the right price,Dunn would be a terrific addition.

or maybe he didn't have the leadership skills they need....

?
deke....they just signed the best free agent RB on the market....you can't expect them to keep him around at his 4-5 mil/per cap hit...it's purely a cap casualty, i'm sure if he'd sign for minimum they'd keep him...
any of those so called vet FA you had highlighted, will surely come at a higher than desired price tag...not what we're looking for as a 3rd RB option.

I have no interest in signing aging veterans
thats just taking steps backwards or spinning your wheels and thats the mistake Jerry Jones continues to make as a GM all the time. This offseason consists of signing an aging flozell Adams, an aging Zach Thomas and possibly an aging Warrick Dunn and a wide receiver that needs micro fracture surgery in Walker, you think thats smart moves by this organization, I do not!!!!

Deke, the Flo signing was absolutely necessary
If you think our offense would be just as good with an inexperieced LT protecting Romo's blinside, you sadly mistaken.

no it wasn't necessary
The Giants had 7 of their 8 draft picks contribute this last year to WIN the superbowl, other than Spencer and Folk, what have our draft picks done to help....

you don't take those chances with a position
like LT. Maybe other positions, yes, but not LT.
Jerry had no choice to sign Flo if he wanted a legitimate shot of going to the SB next season and thats a fact.

Yeah, that list is a COMPLETE joke...
There's not a single RB on that list that even compares to Warrick Dunn.

As for me, I choose NONE OF THE ABOVE
That includes Warrick Dunn and da list.
Let's draft a running back on Day One of the April '08 Draft and maybe pick up a cap casualty after June 1st.
Just my humble, worthless opinion.

I'm with you...
But I'd draft a running back day one and another on day two for depth and special teams. A guy like Tony Temple from Missouri comes to mind. You can still look for a cap casualty and have a little competition in camp for the number 3 spot.

Silver if he comes in as the third
RB I can warm up to the idea, but not as the guy to compliment MB3. I don't know about you, but I don't want a 180 lb RB to be the lead back if something happened to MB3. That would spell disaster! I would still draft Mendenhall, Stewart or Felix Jones to compliment MB3.

I agree True.,,.,,
here's a good quote I got from http://www.aol.com/nfl
Ultimately, if Dunn is willing to be a backup role player who serves as something of a half-coach, half-player, he might be able to help a team a little bit.
We are not looking for a veteran starter in FA, or even a guy to split carry's with MBIII...we are looking for a roster guy with experience, and knowledge of the game, that can stand along side our rookie and tutor, mentor, and coach( would love him here if we do indeed get Felix Jones, very comparable RB's)..as well as take a few snaps here and there when called upon...He has skills, an elusive scat back, great receiver, albeit deminished with age, still a viable backup...If MBIII went down to injury, I'd sure like a guy like Dunn to be there and take pressure off whatever rookie we may take.

We've already had a tiny RB............
In Julius Jones... it didn't work out very well. An Emmitt Smith type RB won't work with anything less than a stellar OL, which we still don't have.
We still need to be looking for big guys who can break tackles, and pound the ball. Tatum Bell would be wayyyyyyyyy better.

Tatum Bell can break tackles and pound the ball?
Interesting.
If we are going to sign Tatum Bell, we might as well bring back Julius. That's a clear downgrade.
