Mock: Trade with ATL to land DMc

Here is an interesting mock for your perusal and thought nuggets, from the Landryhat(good name). It is a trade of some of our spare parts for a disgruntled corner and the Best back in the draft. The kicker is, MB3 is not a part of the deal. Is DeAngelo and his ego worth it? Is DMC worth the price as the 3rd pick overall?

'Mock Draft: Cowboys Trade Up For You Know Who

It wasn’t easy doing this mock draft and having the Cowboys do something I am not sure they should do. But I let my instincts free and this is what happened. Keep in mind that I think the Cowboys still have a good possibility of getting a decent wide receiver in the second round. The third-fifth rounds can go to securing a cornerback and offensive lineman.'

Um

Sounds fine to me.  But there is that thing called the salary cap which makes this virtually impossible, even before talking extension for Hall (much less MB3, Canty, Ware, Newman, TO, Columbo, etc).  It definitely has a very slim chance of working if we turned around and traded ATL's pick to move down in the first and pick up Stewart/Mendenhall instead of DMac.  There would still be cap problems, but it's at least not impossible.  We can't afford to pick in the top 10 and take on Hall.

slim chance?? try no chance!

you're right on the money joos, no way possible can we afford the 3rd pick of the draft, can't be done.

EVeryone

needs to just forget about Mcfadden. It just doesn't make sense. We should use our 2 first round picks on a WR and a CB and then use our 2nd round pick on Charles or Chris Johnson. Chris Johnson's versatility would do so much for this offense.

Wow. Talk about a legit mock draft!

These rumors are getting a little out of hand. It'd be cool if we got McFadden, but it'd also be cool if we didn't. I'm just sick of seeing these lame rumors like, "Oh were gonna trade Bobby Carpenter, the towel boy and our first rounders for DeAngelo Hall and Darren McFadden". I understand there's a lot of 'em going around, but I don't wanna see them from a mock draft that has "CHEATERS SUCK. LOSERS" next to the Pats pick.

Plus

if you look at the 22nd pick after the trade it says Atl will pick up a better and cheaper CB than Hall.  Okay, so why would the boys want to mortgage the future to get hall and DMAC if they can stand pat at 22 and 28 and get cheaper, better players?  No thanks.

well...I realize it's just a "mock" draft .......

But I can promise you, Dallas would never get two players better than DMac & DeAngelo Hall at 22 & 28.

I somehow still feel there is something that's going to go down with these two teams...Although it would make more sense to trade A Henry & Ayodele over Carp and Spears, strickly from a cap hit perspective. I'd surely give up any two of those players, and our 2 first rounders, in exchange of Hall and #3.

I'm at a point where I really hope this trade does go down...I am not liking our odds of getting any of the top 3 CB's, any of the top RB's, or any of the top WR's........You have a sure thing in Hall...and DMac is DMac.....all the nay sayers can say whatever they want...But I've heard too much, from too many players, coaches, scouts, and expert personel guys, on how this guy is going to be one of the most elite backs ever. He is the best RB out there, and i'm tired of the debates..

Personally, I would still trade out of the #3, to KC at #5, or Baltimore at #8, of course Jerry may lose out to DMac if Oakland(4) or NYJ(6) decides to grab him...But at least we'd be out of that outrageous pay slot at #3...and we'd have the pick for either DRC or McKelvin or Stewart or Mendenhall. And get at least a 2nd rounder or better back in return. For all the nervous salary cap people...buy trading Ayodele and Henry...we'd actually gain about 5 million in cap space...so there...don't reply with what the cap ramifications will be....

I really want that trade to go down.

i dont like it...

we are already weak at cb, i dont want to give up a good cb in henry for a so-so cb like hall, and i know alot of people on here dont like spears but he's one of the main reasons we only let one rb go over 100yds...

Henry < Hall

Hate to bust it to ya....but Hall is better than so so, as his two pro bowl selections in his first 4 years in the league would suggest.....and Henry is far from being as good as Hall...If and when he is even healthy.

I'd trade Henry today if you can give me a chance of drafting DRC and having Hall as well....

Dude, pro bowls don't mean everything

Or do you think our "Pro Bowl" safely Roy W. is a great playmaker too?  How many pro bowls has he been to and I'd cheer today if he left the cowboys.  Allegedly, the best players in the league make it to the pro bowl but I think we all know that is not always the case.

ok....let me retract my thoughts....

Your right...Pro Bowls don't mean crap....

But I'll still tell you that DeAngelo Hall is far superior defensive back than Henry....happy ???

oh....by the way....he's 8 years YOUNGER !!!!!!!!!!!

You're right about that

Hall would be a huge upgrade over Henry and if he played all 16 games would do something else Henry couldn't do.

But, although Hall is only 26 he already thinks too highly of himself and I worry about his attitude.  Knowing how sensitive TO can be, he'd probably take it personally if the cowboys got hall too.  And I just think that JJ and Phillips can find a creative way to get a top three CB in this draft without touching Hall which would save them money and headaches.

For the sake of argument

Boyz, I know you specifically asked not to get this kind of response, but I can't help it.  Let's say we do trade Henry and Ayodele in this deal and pick up the cap space.  Hall instantly eats $4m of the $5m we free up, and he's going to want an extension in the $9-10m/year range.  Then we have to sign the draft pick, which won't be too cheap even in the bottom half of the top 10.  Presumably that will be the RB that replaces Barber, who we certainly won't be able to re-sign next year.  We'd then either keep for a year at his tender or (more likely) trade him.  Lose Newman next year in all likelihood, because I don't see how we'd be able to franchise him.

So, basically, the net result is:

Add: Hall, DMac/Stewart/Mendenhall, draft pick from MB3 trade.

Lose:  Henry, Ayodele, 2 low first round picks, MB3, Newman after this year.

Now, we could certainly lose MB3 or Newman next year anyway because we can't re-sign them, but we'd have a lot more flexibility and I'd rather keep Henry, MB3, and our picks (which could very well net us a Hall-level CB), all things considered.  I hear your argument that Hall is much younger than Newman and it's a good point, but overall the losses are just to great to justify a move like that for me.  Reasonable minds may differ...unreasonable ones certainly would!

Yes

easily. Rather not go down the path of getting the next Bobby Carpenter and whatever late 1st round busts that the Cowboys have picked.

here are all the late 1st round draft picks (20 and after) since 1990 for the Cowboys:

1990 - NA
1991 - Kelvin Pritchett (20 overall)
1992 - Robert Jones (24)
1993 - NA
1994 - Shante Carver (23)
1995 - NA
1996 - NA
1997 - David LaFleur (22)
1998 - NA
1999 - Ebenezer Ekuban (20)
2000 - NA
2001 - NA
2002 - NA
2003 - NA
2004 - NA
2005 - Marcus Spears (20)
2006 - Bobby Carpnter (18, i know, not 20+, but still...not good)
2007 - Anthony Spencer (26)

Either trade up or trade down. The value in just not that great when the Cowboys pick late in the first round...

PS - i sure hope Spencer proves me wrong though.

I understand the logic

of this trade, but!!

I dont think the salary cap numbers work. We end up having to pay two first round selection salaries this year and trade 1st round rookie salaries back from two and three years ago. If its me, I dont do the deal. I trade up for DRC and draft Chris Johnson or Jamal Charles in the second round for better value.
