Report: Jerry Jones "intrigued" by Pacman Jones

Clarence E. Hill drops the news that's sure to start the rumor mill rolling.

While there is a long way to go in [the reinstatement] process, [Pacman] Jones might have a willing suitor in Cowboys owner Jerry Jones.

According to a source, Jones has asked a few staffers about how Jones would fit with the Cowboys.

There is nothing more to it because the Cowboys are prevented by league rules from talking to Jones or his representatives.

[snip]

But make no mistake about, the Cowboys owner is at least intrigued by the possibility that he has brought it up to staffers.

Update [2008-3-7 18:56:45 by Dave Halprin (Grizz)]: Calvin Watkins over at the DMN is also reporting on this story.

Aw jeez

Get ready guys, if he gets reinstated, this is happening.

And when it does, I'll probably feel the same way as when I saw the ESPNews ticker re: signing TO...great anticipation.

WOW is right.

I am part of the camp that thinks Adam Jones is nothing but a cancer to the NFL, holds no regard for other people, and should have been banned from the NFL.

But if he becomes a Cowboy I will have no choice but to root for him.....as a player. One slip up, and he better be GONE.

You find out life's this game of inches, so is football. Because in either game - life or football - the margin for error is so small.

I agree with you guys

Unlike TO and other prima donnas, he's really a bad guy.

He needs to be playing longest yard ball not NFL...

by dunkman on Mar 7, 2008 5:29 PM CST reply actions

Damn

I don't like this. I could see him changing in Dallas, but I don't think its the right way to go. His case is far different than any player's in the league is. He is not a showboater like CJ or a glory hog like T.O. was, this man is truly a thug.

Sign em!

Devise a contract that'll land him square on his arse if he fouls up on or off the field, in the locker room, or anywhere else. If this can be done I'm more than for it.

At the very least, leave no stone unturned...

I'd be upset if Jerry didn't at least kick the tires on the idea...

by N41D on Mar 7, 2008 6:06 PM CST reply actions

Yeah, I think pacman is a thug

but if we can sign him to a nothing to lose contract, go for it.  If he can shut down the opposing teams reciever and help them win games without getting involved in anymore shoot outs, that's a good thing.
Put a stipulation in his contract that if he screws up one more time, he has to legally change his name to "weiner boy."  That will hit him where it hurts, in his street cred.

jones

I'm sure there's a certain strip club down the street from Texas Stadium that would kill to have Pacman on the Cowboys.

Jerry Jones is only cited as asking for opinions

on The Pacman. Don't read too much into it.

Hopefully, his advisers are going to tell him not to touch the guy.

He is still suspended indefinitely. So unlike Tank Johnson's situation, Goodell doesn't seem to want to give this guy the 2nd chance.

Combined with the 2 first rounders Dallas holds, I'd say something really drastic would have to happen before Jerry Jones signs this turd.

More silly season nonsense

Nothing going on around the ranch over the last wekk, so lets make something up and throw it out there, thats what smells like.

Pacman is suspended until atleast July when he has another meeting scheduled with the league, even after that, he may not be reinstated. Goodell keeps in weekly contact with Pacman and Pacman continues not to follow the guidelines/mandates of the league and Pacman's own promises he made to Goodell about how he will change his lifestyle, he has not changed, so why waste time on a player that wont be available after July, if at all by the way things are going in his case.

The reason this is being talked about

is not because of anything the Cowboys have done. It's because Pacman Jones specifically said that he would like to play on "America's Team" the Dallas Cowboys.

yep

not sure why anyone would say "lets make something up and throw it out there" when it's quite obvious that there is "something out there"

there is nothing out there

I posted this over a week ago,

First off, I have no interest at all in trading for or signing this guy if he is ever reinstated by the league or released by the Titans. The only reason why I posted this is with regards to the team contacted...

McCormick also reports that at least one team has been contacted about its potential interest in the player known more popularly as Pacman.  The team in question wasn't interested.

http://e-paper.nashvillecitypaper.co...

Does anyone here have any question that the team Pacman's representatives contacted about a trade was the one and only Jerry Jones and the Dallas Cowboys. I have no doubt that it was, I dont think any other team would even take a remote chance in trading for or signing this clown...

Gee, Pacman wants to play for a winning team, what a surprise!!!!!

Do you think he'd want to play for the cowboys if they were 5-11, I highly doubt it

by Longhorn @ Blogging The Boys on Mar 7, 2008 7:50 PM CST up reply actions

I highly doubt ANY player

would want to go to a 5-11 team. If I'm Pacman I see a team known for giving second chances. The fact that we are a winning organization only makes it that much more appealing I'm sure.

Cowboys can't do anything...

It's tampering....even if they have looked into it...they can't speak about it....I'd open my arms to Pacman coming here...knowing he has one last chance to resurect his career.

Jerry Jones' Reputation

Jerry Jones has a reputation of getting these types of guys to give them 2nd chances. Let me remind you:

Alonzo Spellman
Demetrius Underwood
Terrell Owens
Tank Johnson
And some others that I know I'm forgetting.

I'm all for the "Don't Screw It Up Or Else" Contract.

by calebsmith on Mar 7, 2008 7:24 PM CST reply actions

"Don't Screw It Up Or Else"

its not about the contract, thats what you're missing. The guy cant be counted on to stay out of trouble, and after two weeks into the season, he's suspended again for sometihng, where does that leave the cowboys secondary, thats the point some of you are missing, its not about the contract and money if he's released after when he is ever reinstated. The punk cant stay out of trouble, the league has mandated as part of his supension to attend anger management classes, he has failed to attend them.

by Deke on Mar 7, 2008 7:31 PM CST up reply actions

We'd still want to draft a CB

even if we did pick up Pacman, and if we don't we should draft 2. The reward can be very good if we take him. I'm all for it if the contract is set up right, and Jerry's no dummy when it comes to the business side of things.

couldn't agree more Deke

this punk will be banned for life, its only a manner of time.

by Mullin on Mar 7, 2008 8:11 PM CST up reply actions

I agree that he can't be trusted

That is why whover signs him will sign him to a two year minimum pay deal.  They will structure the contract so that if he is arrested or even gets so much as a parking ticket he will have to give back any signing bonus as well as have to pay back all of the money the team had paid him up to that point (possibly in the form of a fine to the team).  There would also probably be language in his contract that would void the deal and allow the team to fine him if he is caught in a strip club, is found with any kind of weapon or is caught up in an incident where someone in his crew had a weapon.

That's the thing.  The contract should be structured to keep him in line, and if it doesn't, the team that signed him really loses nothing or very little.

I'm guessing the commish is waiting until the last possible minute before the draft (to see if Pacman can stay out of trouble) before reinstating him.
