(i'm baaack) d-mac interview and more.

First I would like to say it's good to be back. Second, I don't know if you guys caught the interview on NFL Total Access last night with d-mac, the article is posted over at dcfanatics blog:

http://www.bloggingtheboys.com/story...

    great job on them

Star-divide

He mentioned something about a certain team (that's right, the DALLAS COWBOYS) as his dream team.  It's nice to hear.  He also comment's on some of his off the field issues.  Good stuff.

Now onto some things over the past couple weeks.  First, I love marion barber..I do. He's been great since we got him and he's one of the most exciting backs in the league...but.... If we traded him for a top pick to get McFadden, I would not be heart broken.  IF Keith Davis leaves, I will be.  Julius Jones, as my cousin so eloquently put it, is "my favorite seahawk"  F*** em and feed em fish food I say.

Ken Hamlin's franchise tag, smart move jerry.  He basically bought him an extra year of evaluation before he had to commit.  Pacman, BRING HIM IN.  They said on DMN that he'd be a great 3rd corner...whaaaaaaat...Anthony henry will be a great 3rd corner (maybe a part time saftey?)  Adam Jones will be a GREAT 2nd corner.  Shore up the secondary real quick like.  I'm sure there is more to hit on but I just needed to get this first one out.

Welcome back, Markdamack!
You find out life's this game of inches, so is football. Because in either game - life or football - the margin for error is so small.

Where ya been?

I am kind of sad to see JJ go, but we were right to not try and resign him.

We should NOT trade Barber, a proven pro bowler who brings a spark to this team that I haven't seen an individual player do since Emmitt Smith, for a highly touted, but unproven running back like D-Mac.

In fact, I don't think we should try and trade up for a running back, but instead trade up for a CB.

I too think adding Pacman would be a good move, but we couldn't rely on him to  be the second corner alone. We need someone else in case he screws up and gets suspended again.

Oh, dont get me wrong..

But you sound like those herschel walker fans when THAT little guy named emmitt was on Jimmy Johnson's mind :D  I love marion barber, for me he's the most exciting player on the team and has been (and I LOVE romo), more exciting than anybody i've seen on the cowboys since 22.  He runs with such power and balance, it's my favorite aspect of the game.  Darren McFadden...wow.

Adrian Peterson took a 4-12 team at BEST to 1 game away from the playoffs. To one game from the playoffs.  Had we beat the redskins ( i dont want to talk about it) they would have been there.  What if we had someone better than him..on the cowboys, the patriots would wish they were us. Now I don't want to lose barbarian by any means.  McFadden is something special though,seriously..and if we don't get him there tons of other good rb's in the draft we could.  Mark my words though, we'll always regret not getting him.

Oh, tell your pat's fan I said hi, and I hope the kids are doing good!

I don't get that post at all ???

Huh???.....who is that addressed to ??..and what are you talking about ???

I like DMac too...if he slides past 9 in the draft, I hope we trade up..But I agree more with trading up for a CB.

read the subject with it

"Oh, don't get me wrong...but you..." and I was talking to philosopher.

And if we go after pacman then we dont have a dire need for a cb

by markdamack on Mar 8, 2008 2:19 PM CST up reply actions   0 recs

We won't even know Pacman's status til after ....

He won't be traded til July...it's well known....we can't rest on that notion....We still NEED to have CB as our highest prority regardless if we get Pacman or not...We NEED at least 2 top quality CB's this offseason...One as a 3rd starter..other as eventual 3rd starter/special teamer/4th CB/rewturn man...cuz the future for Henry looks bleak after this season...and Newman might even be gone...Alan Ball is not what i'm looking for in a 4th CB...

Agree on the need of two new CBs

It isn't a foregone conclusion that if we did get to draft a top flight CB that he would be a stud, if we were to get two then we have twice the chance of having a future pro bowl CB.

Getting Adam Jones = No dire need for a CB?

Um....... How?

What if he comes in, and half way through the season he smacks another stripper in the mouth, and we haven't drafted a talented guy for depth?

We'd be right back in the position we were in this year.

Even if you bring in Jones, CB is still a major priority early on in the draft. Taking a chance on Jones is like trying to shoot a moving target in the dark. If you get lucky and he stays out of trouble, great. You've got a very good CB to pair with Newman, and he comes at a low cost. But bringing him in is just that, a shot in the dark.

I do think that getting Jones (should he stay out of trouble) and drafting CB early in the draft (if you get the right guy)could present you the opportunity at some point in the season to move Anthony Henry over to FS next to Hamlin, should Roy Williams flop again this year.

by N41D on Mar 8, 2008 3:08 PM CST up reply actions   0 recs

Easy

The man knows, just like T.O. knew, just like Tank knew...this is his last shot, if he comes in and messes up then he's pretty much done.  Give him a chance, I don't think he'll mess up again.  Also, BoyzRback07 what makes you think henry or newman will be gone?  Also, pacman is trying to talk to roger goodell about getting traded before the draft.  If we do get jones we probably wouldn't need but a 2nd or 3rd round corner to help shore up.  If we get pacman we wouldn't need a returner, we've already got miles austin and pacman is a beast at punt returner.

by markdamack on Mar 8, 2008 3:34 PM CST up reply actions   0 recs

well..i gree with some of that....

IF Pacman is reinstated before the draft AND gets traded to Dallas for like umm....a 5th round pick....ok...THEN we might not NEED to go CB with pick #22....BUT...I think there is no doubt we'll still go CB with picks #28 or #61....without a doubt...ONCE again...we NEED two CB's no matter what...Henry and Newman being the only current signed CB's on our roster....you NEED at least 5 CB's....preferably 6 total.

After this season, Henry will be 34 years old, with a history of injuries, a 5 + million dollar cap hit..He's either cut after the Super Bowl, or he restructures his contract dramatically, and possibly moves to FS.
I look for this to be Henry's last year here, which makes getting a top notch CB to replace him that much more vital.

Newman becomes a free agent after this season. He will be 31 years old, and also has a history of knee, and foot injuries. Unless he can be signed to a very cap friendly, home team discounted contract, I can see him being let go to test the free agency market...Or sign a last minute deal like Flo did, IF he does well this year and doesn't miss any games.I would like to franchise him for one more season, but the going rate next spring will be around 1o million/per....Hardly what i'd like to spend on an aging CB.

Keep in mind who is going to be the priority signings within the next 12 months;

Terrell Owens- #1 need, without him...there will be no Super Bowl.

Hamlin- Question is now...Do we really want to spend 7-8 million/per on our QB of the defense ?? that's an answer Jerry will have to give...IF we had just signed him before FA began, I think we could have gotten him for 5-6 mil/per....too late now...market is set...look for Hamlin to sign a 6 year/ 43 million dollar contract, with 15 mil bonus.

MBIII- at the right price would like to retain, If he's looking for 7 million +..This year's top RB selection will need to take over in '09. say bye bye...

Canty- not looking to let him walk, He still has upside, and is our best DE. 6 year/ 25 million with a 10 mil bonus to keep...it's gotta happen.

Columbo- just as important as Flo, covers Romo's right flank, and does it well...4 years/ 25 mil..10 mil bonus..he may not be back in '09..have to justify our back up OT's somewhere.

Ware- Would be nice to work out some early extention if we could, We certainly can wait til after '09 season on him....but do we want the market to go even higher than it is now: 8.9 mil/per right now.. sign him 6 year/64 million, 24 mil bonus.

That all being said...Look for A Henry, T Glenn, R Williams, Ayodele, Kosier to be either traded or cut within the next 12 months.

Man...

You're just throwing everyone under the bus aren't you?  Who cares cut half of em and give the other half great contracts and draft 2 cb's.  Sounds like a plan to me!  Come on, I get some of your points, but T-new man?  Are you serious?  He's really not injury prone, i dont get where that came from and as far as aging he's going into his sixth season.  So what, 6th is over the hill now? 31? At cornerback and still only going into your sixth year, thats not bad.

Also, thats a hell of a lot of money for a safety.  Ed   Reed doesn't make that much per year, and his bonus was 15 mil, the biggest ever for a Safety.  You're also talking about making marion barber one of the richest backs in the league as well.  Demarcus ware, you're talking about paying him more than it would cost to franchise him!

Now I could see Henry leaving, but you're talking about things that could happen in the future, i'm talking about now.

Yeah, if only it were that easy...

You cannot bring Adam Jones in here and not have a legitimate insurance policy in place... You just can't.

What Tank Johnson did was stupid, but he didn't have a history of acting like a ignorant thug idiot like Jones. Terrell Owens doesn't even belong in this conversation.

Adam Jones has been through a year-long suspension, he still goes to strip clubs, he skips league-mandated anger management meetings. I just don't see what makes you believe that he finally 'gets it'. Nothing he's done points to it.

Would I take a flier on him? Absolutely. Do I bring him in here and not insure my investment with another good, young CB? Not a chance in hell. It's just a dumb idea.

If we get Jones, there still needs to be a heavy priority placed on finding a young, talented CB early on in the draft. There's absolutely no argument to be made otherwise.

sigh

I know we need a young corner, i'm not saying don't draft one at all...that would be stupid.  T.O. was in the conversation not from a criminal aspect but a personality aspect

My Pats fan is in mourning! :)

Jimmy Johnson was rebuilding an awful team. That isn't the case now. We are a good CB and another speedy wideout away from a superbowl. We can't gamble on D-Mac (who might be another Curtis Enis for all we know) by giving up a guy like Barber who is an absolutely integral part of the team and is proven. Barber is special. D-Mac might be, but I don't want to risk it.

Now, if D-mac is still available when the trading hits the teens, then I could see trading up for him (but that won't happen....). We need a CB first and foremost.....

SEC is not as good as Big XII

BigXII has 4 teams finished in the top ten last year. Kansas, Mizzou, Texas, and OU could all compete with any SEC team and I would take the Big 12s parody over the SEC's anyday.

If he slides past the Jets

The guy could freefall to an extent that I'd agree. However, I wouldn't pony up any more than Barber and #28 for him. I love McFadden and think he can be a top 5 RB for the next 10 years, but he's not worth mroe than that.
Don't count on this, because he's too talented for it to happen... but after the Jes, you have New England (Maroney) the Ravens (McGahee) the Bengals (Johnson fell off last year, but they may want to adress bigger needs; see, defense), the Saints (already paying their running backs a ridiculous sum of money) and the Bills (Mershawn Lynch), at which point the Broncos would hit the jackpot.
Of course, if he slides this precipitously we won't be the only team placing frantic calls.

All good points

EXCEPT for the one who said the SEC isn't the best conference.  Were talking LSU, Florida, Arkansas, Tennessee, Auburn, Kentucky, Georgia, Alabama, ole miss, Vanderbilt, and south carolina... you can't top that.

Also, don`t get what?  I do get it, we do need cornerbacks, I just think if we got pacman there would be a lot more room to wait around until next year to pick up and pay another stud at cb in the draft.  We went 13-3 guys on the defense we got, We were still in the upper half (13th I believe) in pass defense.  You add McFadden and he IS our next emmitt then it's great.

I do however agree, I DONT want marion barber out of here.  I don't, but I don't want barber to have maybe over achieved a little bit..We don't really even know if he's the answer.  Can he even be the starting running back?  Running like he dos how long before he loses his steam or gets seriously injured?

Ok, off McFadden, it's basically a broken record but one last point..I hate when people say, we can't gamble on him...it's the daft...everybody`s a gamble!  You take big risks you win big. Look at the last time we skipped a running back because we didn't risk it...what was his name, stephen jackson...yeah that's it.

I love everyone commenting, but let's not get angry with each other, none of us are right. All of us are right.  We don't know, we're simply voicing opinions.  Let's not try to make someone else feel stupid because of what they say is a good idea for the cowboys.  I'm guilty of it, everyone is almost.

Big 12

Has four elite teams in Texas, OU, Mizzou, and Kansas. They then have the next tier including, Okie State, K-State, T.Tech, and A&M. I think it matches up much better than you suggest. LSU and Georgia are really the only elite teams in the conference and I really do think we will see one of them and a Big 12 team in the National Championship.
