Top 20 Possible Cowboys Picks (For Rds 1-2)

I thought it might be interesting to see how everyone's opinions varied on a top 20 list of our three biggest needs for our First and Second Round picks.  I came up with the following list based on the following criteria:

  1.  Realistic expectation that players will be available  between picks 22 and 61.
  1.  Based on biggest areas of need (CB, RB, WR).
  1.  Ranked in order of who you would pick first if all these players were available at pick 22.
  1.  I also tacked on 2 sleeper picks that we might want to look at in the later rounds if we don't address that position with our first three picks.

Star-divide

Here is my list -

  1.  DRC (CB)(Not probable, but I can dream)
  1.  Jonathan Stewart (RB)
  1.  Devin Thomas (WR)
  1.  Limas Sweed (WR)
  1.  Felix Jones (RB)
  1.  Antoine Cason (CB)*
  1.  Aquib Talib (CB)
  1.  James Hardy (WR)
  1.  Chris Johnson (RB)
  1. Eddie Royal (WR)
  1. Kevin Smith (RB)
  1. Brandon Flowers (CB)
  1. Patrick Lee (WR)
  1. Jordy Nelson (WR)
  1. DeSean Jackson (WR)
  1. William Franklin (WR)
  1. Tashard Choice (RB)
  1. Marcus Monk (WR)
  1. Justin King (CB)
  1. Early Doucet (WR)

Sleeper Picks:

  1. Darrell Terrell (CB)
  1. Pierre Garcon (WR)

*I've posted earlier how I preferred Talib over Cason.  After watching some clips and listening to people who know more about football than me (of which there are many), I've determined that I was way wrong and that Cason should be ranked higher.

Avery is better than Royal as is Caldwell

Chris Johnson doesn't deserve to be in the top 5.  He is soooooooooo overrated.

Also Jenkins should be somewhere in the top 3 CB's.

I wouldn't be surprised at all if we take Kenny Phillips in the first round.

thats your opinion and thats fine

but I don't like Jenkins and I don't think Johnson is overrated, he would be a very fine 2nd rd selection IMO.

You're Right quincyyyyy. . .

Forgot about Charles.  I'd put him above Choice at 17.  That Sports Illustrated link is pretty awesome.  You should check out Will Franklin.  I think he might end up being our second round pick if we don't trade for Roy.

There you have it...Day #1 draft- Dallas.

Pick #22

CB-Dominique Rodgers-Cromarte
CB-Leodis McKelvin
CB-Mike Jenkins

If none of the above mentioned are available:

RB-Rashard Mendenhall
RB-Felix Jones
RB-Jonathan Stewart
WR-Devin Thomas
WR-Desean Jackson
CB-Antoine Cason

My guess for pick #22: Felix Jones-RB

If any of the above mentioned players are available at #22...we take him...in order listed.

If none of the above mentioned are available, trade down to top of second with Miami, Atlanta, KC, NYJ, or Baltimore. Obtain their 2nd rounder and possibly an additional 1st rounder for '09, or depending on which team, at least 2 2nd rounders for the move.

Pick #28

If there is a possibility to trade this pick for an established WR....We jump all over it. Roy Williams, Chad Johnson, Anquan Boldin.

Has anyone else realized that the Oakland Raiders have yet to get CB-Asomugha to sign his franchise tender ??...hmmm...with all the money they've dropped on free agents...one has to wonder how they'll pay him and still get a top 4 pick signed in this years draft...hmmm...IF something is going to happen in this draft....look for the Raiders to be our possible dance partners. If no trade occurs.....follow along..

If any of the players listed above for pick #22 are still available, we take him.
If all the players listed above are gone, we select from this list, if available:

WR-Desean Jackson
CB-Antoine Cason
FS-Kenny Phillips
WR-Limas Sweed
RB-Jamaal Charles
OT-Gosder Cherilus
DT/DE-Kentwan Balmer
ILB-Jerod Mayo
OLB-Quentin Groves

My Guess for pick #28: Antoine Cason

If either of the DB's are still available, we must select him. We may also go a different route if any of the remaining listed are available.

If none of the listed players are available at #28, we must trade down as well for their second, and other top pick considerations. to a team in the early to mid second round: Baltimore, Buffalo, Carolina, Chicago, Minnesota etc.. that's looking to move into the late first to have first choice of remaining top QB's, or other top positions.

Pick #61

At this point I am assuming we have secured the rights to Felix Jones-RB & Antoine Cason-CB. I am also under the asumption we are going to eventually aquire Adam Jones-CB before the draft.

At pick 61, I'm still looking to strengthen our secondary at the Safety positions, or aquire a fleet footed slot Wide Receiver, A stud O Lineman, A stout run stuffing DT, A playmaking DE, or a LB.

WR-Andre Caldwell
WR-Mario Manninghan
FS-Reggie Smith
OG-Chilo Rachal
DT-Trevor Laws
WR-Malcolm Kelly
DT-Pat Sims
SS/FS-DuJuan Morgan
SS-Tyrell Johnson
WR-Donny Avery
WR-Earl Bennett
DT-Dre Moore
OT-Duane Brown
WR-Eddie Royal
SS-Josh Barrett
OG-Roy Schuening
SS-Tom Zbikowski

I would use that order of players listed above to choose my #61 pick.

My Guess for pick #61: Tyrell Johnson-SS

IF we weren't able to land our DB in the first, yet we were still able to obtain Adam Jones-CB,

We would have to choose a DB here at #61, and this is the list to choose from if available:

DB-Aqib Talib *Off my board, but if at #61, pick up.
CB-Tracy Porter
DB-DuJuan Morgan
DB-Reggie Smith
DB-Brandon Flowers
CB-Justin King
DB-Charles Godfrey
DB-Terrell Thomas

Once again, IF we did not aquire a first round DB, It is vital that we select one of the above mentioned Defensive Backs, whichever is available, in that order.....

True Cowboys diehard since 1975.
