Around SBN: Jeremy Lin And How The Pac-12 Missed Him

Jonathan Stewart vs. Felix Jones

Okay, I need help understanding this.  Why is it that when Jonathan Stewart is ranked higher on most expert's draft boards, has carried the load as the full time starter on his team, is 30 pounds heavier than Felix Jone And runs just as fast as he does that everyone has us picking Felix Jones over him when they are both available at 22 in most of the mock drafts that I've seen?

I understand the whole turf toe injury, but he is supposed to be fully healed by training camp.  He also ran a 4.47 at the combine when the toe was still hurt.  Jones ran a 4.46.

To me it makes more sense to go with a potential starter for several reasons.  One, he has shown that he's tough by playing through injuries.  Two, he's shown he can carry the full time running back load.  Three, this will give us a backup plan in case Barber does not come to reality and realize that he's not getting LT-type money.  Don't get me wrong, Barber is good, but if we can get someone who might be able to fill in as a replacement starter in his place, that will free up money to sign Hamlin, Newman, TO, Ware, and probably some others that I am not thinking of at the moment.  I was just wondering if I was missing a major reason all the experts are on the Felix Jones bandwagon rather than Jonathan Stewart's.

Firstly

It’s not that people are rating Jones over Stewart, but they are speculating that he will be gone by the time we make our selection. He was a top 15 pick before that injury, and it seems to have dropped his stock slightly, as opposed to Jack Ikegwounu’s season-ending injury, which propelled him into the middle of the second day.
There is merit, however, to the suggestion that Jones is a better fit here. He’s show in the past that he’s an exceptional complementary back, and Stewart might be the type of guy who needs heaps of carries to be successful. In addition, most would say that Jones is faster than his 40 time suggests.

Just to clarify. . .

I can definitely understand taking Jones if Stewart is gone, and I would be happy with either back. But I’m specifically talking about mock drafts where both Stewart and Jones are available at 22 and Jones is the back chosen.

Stewart is a no Brainer if he's there at 22

I’m hoping Stewarts stock drops him right into our lap. I’ve been touting this guy for a year, I think he’s thee best all around back coming out this year.

I like Barber, but he’s not a lead back, better suited as the change of pace back, Felix Jones name is brought up going to the cowboys because of the Jerry/Arkansas ties, and since Mcfadden is offf the radar, Jones is the next Arkansas player that people think Jerry and dallas would take because he’s from Arkansas, but in reality, Jerry has never showed he’s inclined to take an arkansas player over anyone else, infact, history show the exact opposite.

Felix Jones isn my opinion is a second round talent, better of the second tier of backs in this draft, not in the same class of Mcfadden, Mendenhall and Stewart.

If dallas was to draft Jones, Barber would have to be in most of the time, especially on third down, because Jones has little to no experience in blocking or picking up the blitz on this down, Dallas would be in the same position, they would have two backs that aren’t lead backs and would still need to draft another back later in the draft who can block. Stewart is the complete back in this draft and will be a star in this league, I dont think he’ll be there at 22 when dallas selects, but if he is, dallas has to take him, otherwise, I think Dalas hopes Jenkins is there or Dallas will move down or trade it to detroit for Williams along with a foruth round pick in 2009

Trade up a few spots to get ahead of Houston and draft Jonathan Stewart, thee best all around Back in the draft.

Preference

I would be ecstatic if the Cowboys drafted Stewart at 22.

Stewart is better if you

want a all around capable starting RB, but Felix Jones is a better compliment to MB3 because of his size and speed combination. If Jerry thinks MB3 won’t be here next year than Stewart has to be the choice. That said, I like Jones at 22 or 28.

If both are there...

You gotta take Stewart…

Health concerns aside, he’s a flat out better prospect.

I still doubt Stewart is available at 22, though. Mendenhall is gone by #15, and someone (Arizona, Houston?) will take their chances with Stewart’s toe before we get the chance to do so…

And I don’t draft Felix Jones at 22, either… I go CB first (assuming one of Talib, Jenkins, DRC, McKelvin is available), and if Jones is there at 28, great. If not, trade outta that spot and hold off for Ray Rice, Jamaal Charles, or Chris Johnson in Round 2.

I think drafting a CB in the first round

is not a given now with Pacman aboard. Jerry might wait until the second round. I have no doubt in my mind RB will be the 22nd pick. The 28th pick is a huge question mark because it’s real possible that pick could be used to trade down.

I couldn't

have said it better myself. I continue to say a barber stewart 1 – 2 punch would be like a Tyson 1-2 combo

Michael Irvin to Keyshawn Johnson "I know where me and Rice belong on the top ten receivers of all time list, but who do you have in the bottom 8?"

I think its because Stewart is china doll

having always been injury prone in college. To me, he’s a risky 1st rd pick.

Either would be fine with me.

I can’t choose. But I’d be surprised if Stewart drops that far.

Always moving forward....

sorry

but most of you are wrong. Felix will prove to be the second or third best back in this class. I would take him over Stewart in a heartbeat. Not to mention that he would be the PERFECT compliment to MBIII and provide and explosive presence in the return game.
