Owen Schmitt

Hey guys - long time reader, first time poster.  I have to say this is the best Cowboys Blog on the net from what I have seen.  I just wanted to bring something up I don't think many people are talking about.  First off, I think we can all agree on a few things.

- Possibly trading up or down, early in the draft we are going to take a corner, running back, and possibly trade for a veteran wide receiver (Roy Williams or Anquan Boldin).

- Although many mock drafts have us taking taking receiver in the first round, we can all agree this is not going to happen (probably not even in the second round either).

As for later in the draft, I would love to see us select Owen Schmitt.  This guy is a lethal machine.  From what I hear he is a work out warrior with the heart of a lion.  With this beast blocking for Marion the Barbarian, our running game would be unstoppable.  Many people forget about how important the full back is in the I-formation, and last year we ran Marion out of the I often.  Nothing against Deon Anderson, I think he's a great ballplayer, but he's more of a scrappy FB - someone who can chip and quickly get out into the flat.  Schmitt would be someone we could line up on third in two in the I-formation when the game is on the line against the Giants and the only thing standing between Marion and Schmitt and the first down is Mathias Kiwanuka.  Many people underestimate the role of the fullback in the running game but if utilized properly, Marion's life would get a whole lot easier.

Most of you have probably already seen this, but if not, check this out -

Emmit probably wouldn't have been Emmit without Moose Johnston.

Two questions:

What do you guys think of Owen Schmitt and do you think he should be a priority later in the draft?

What would you do if you were Mathias Kiwanuka on the outside, and Bigs, Owen Schmitt, and Marion the Barbarian were coming full speed right at you on a power sweep? (More of a thinking question)

Great Post - One tough hombre

Nice to see someone thinking out of the box. This is a very good post. FB is something we should address as I am not sure Deon is coming back from his serious neck injury. With a guy like Schmitt, MBIII could be much more effective – remember who Emmitt ran behind, right?? I have seen Schmitt play and it seems like he busted a face mask just about each game – and that Utube link is awesome. Three reasons to select Schmitty with a late third round/fourth round pick: 1) great pass protector; 2) special teams; 3) a GREAT pass catcher on screens/out of backfield. Oh one more reason: the guy could double as the locker room enforcer and keep Pacman under control – he is one tough hombre. Great post for a first timer!!

Schmitt square off with Brandon Jacobs in the tunnel.

I'm all for getting Scmittyfaced

For all the reason listed above. He’s a throwback to Larry Czonka days. He’s also a good short yardage back, always moves the pile forward. Dallas could go for it on every 4th and 1.

2 guys I’m most hoping for in this draft are Schmitt and Red Bryant. There are a couple different RB’s , CB’s ,and S’s, I’d be equally happy to see in Cowboy uni’s this season.
