Around SBN: Steve McNair Found Shot to Death

Terry you are not going to like this....

Here is what the Colts Blogger had to say in response to one of my posts about our draft:

Two things

1) If the Cowboys don’t re-sign Barber, they are finished. Done. Not going to win 8 game. Tony Romo is not a consistent big game QB, and without a healthy, strong, dominant Marion Barber the Cowboys have ZERO chance of making the playoffs to say nothing of getting to the Super Bowl. So, any talk of the Cowboys not re-signing Barber is silly. Felix Jones was drafted to spell Barber, and the reason I question the Choice pick is Dallas’ secondary still sucks. Their safeties can’t cover anyone, especially Roy Williams who could not cover my grandmother if she ran a pattern over the middle. Remember, Eli Manning carved up the Cowboys in the playoffs (12-19, 163 yards, 2 TDs, no INTs), yet Dallas did very little to address this weakness in the draft.

2) Manningham is a late-first, early-second round prospect that fell to the Giants in the late 3rd round. NY can afford to draft someone like Manningham because they won the Super Bowl last year. This means they have very few weaknesses, especially at WR where they have Burress, Tyree, Smith, and Toomer just to name a few. With Dallas, a team that nearly DEFINES the term “character issues,” they are coached by a bumbling idiot who cannot get his team focused enough to win playoff games. The absolute LAST thing they need is anyone with character flaws. They need high character, self-motivated men because their coach is a clueless fool.

So, based on those two things, I don’t think they got much value. Those 3rd and 4th round picks won’t do Wade Phillips any good if the Cowboys lose ANOTHER playoff series. the main focus of this series is to see if a team like Dallas did enough to overcome the Giants, and I don’t think they did. Eli Manning is still better than Tony Romo. The Giants defense, coach, runnning game, WRs, and general manager are all better than Dallas. The Cowboys needed an outstanding draft to get past NY, and they didn’t get it.

Thus, yang.

yeah, any colts fan says that romo can’t win a big game hasn’t given romo about 8 years or so.

hahahaha

exactly what i was thinking…...and Eli carved up our defense for 160 yards???? i see his point, but before the playoffs the jury was still out on Eli….if we trade Romo for Eli, I honestly don’t even know if we make the playoffs…there’s no telling whether Eli will drive the bus next year or hand the season away a game at a time…

I can’t speak for anyone else, but I feel pretty DAMN good about facing the Giants again whether it’s in the playoffs or either of the games in the regular season…The Perfect Storm got The Giants a SB ring and they’re still not going to win the division this year, I’d be hard pressed to find a Cowboys fan that is actually “scared” of the Giants….the only team that i think is competition is the Pats…..

I agree

I don’t mean to unnecessarily disrespect the Giants, but I thought then and still think now that Dallas has a better team. They caught lightning in a bottle and ripped off 4 very impressive road playoff wins. I do think that it’s telling that the final 3 teams they beat (Dallas, GB, and NE) all had similar pass-wacky offenses, which were most susceptible to the Giants’ incredible pass rush. I don’t think you can duplicate that kind of success. DAL, GB, and NE all thought they could beat that pass rush. All were wrong. But, we will have the benefit of experience next time when they try to win that way (GB and NE have less of an excuse, since they could have just watched the prior weeks’ game tapes).

It’s hard to know if the SB win will inject the Giants with tremendous confidence and take them to the next level as a team, but I wouldn’t bet on it. Every NFC East team is going to be tough this year, just like they were last year. I honestly think any of the 4 teams could win the division, though I’d give Dallas the best chance.

I respect the Giants more than I did prior to the playoff loss, but I don’t fear them. In fact, I don’t think the Cowboys should fear any team after the improvements they’ve made this offseason. NE’s passing offense will likely be less potent this year (no Stallworth, a year for defenses to adjust), and we’re better able to stop it with better CBs and better/more experienced LBs. Dallas just needs to fear poor execution and injuries, like every other team.

My, My, My

I must be sick or something, because reading something like this should not cause me to get so angry. I live in NYC and trust me, Giants fans are the scum of the earth (i mean that in a nice way).

Great response, Quincy

The homerism there was altogether TOO blatant.

you have to understand that BBS is an idiot and

the biggest Colt homer on the planet and Cowboys hater. I enjoy reading his crap over at Stampede Blue because they’re always good for a great laugh.

BBS is indeed a total moron. The guy is still mad that the Cowboys beat the Colts to ruin their undefeated streak 2 years ago. It still p!sses me off that he called Jerry a racist because he hired Wade Phillips. I can’t even read thap crappy Colts site, it’s nauseating.

T-New, shutting down WR's for Dallas since 2003

Heh.

I love the revision of history. It took BBS’s QB, what, nine seasons to win a Super Bowl? Granted, they may have won that one season if it hadn’t been for Vanderchoke, but still….

You can't have Thunder without Lightning.

by Nelson... on May 1, 2008 10:33 AM CDT reply reply actions actions   0 recs

What a moron

3 completely idiotic assertions:

1. The Cowboys didn’t improve their secondary – on the draft weekend, they traded for Pacman and drafted Jenkins and Scandrick. Could they have done much MORE to improve the secondary, other than drafting a safety? Bogus.

2. Romo isn’t a big game QB – Romo has played in two “big games” and the Cowboys barely lost both, in large part because of gaffes by the WRs. It’s a valid complaint until proven otherwise, but the same could have been said for Peyton manning, as you guys point out. Not bogus but totally stupid for a Colts fan to say.

3. The Giants won the Super Bowl so they have no weaknesses – Really? Is that what that means? I don’t think any Giants fan or coach would agree with that statement. Every team has weaknesses, and teams have to win in spite of them. They did a great job last year down the stretch, but they also looked horrible at times last year. They have no glaring weaknesses but everything but the pass rush could use improvement.

Ugh. What a waste of breath.

by grapejoos on May 1, 2008 1:33 PM CDT reply reply actions actions   0 recs

also regarding big games

whether BBS wants to acknowledge this or not, there were plenty of so called “big games” during the last 2 regular seasons in which Romo played very well.

I was just going to say that. Like when he beat the 9-0 colts. Or When he overcame his horrible performance in buffalo to have pose and lead the team down the field to win. Or any of his performances against the Giants as a STARTER. I could go on and on.. Romo defn has the “big game” Potential.. Remember it was Romo the QB who drove the cowboys down to win the game in the final two minutes against Seattle in the playoffs. He even threw the “first down” pass to witten atleast it should of been.

HA!
Tony Romo is not a consistent big game QB

Anybody else remind you of what everyone said about Peyton before last year when they won the super bowl? “Well, he has hall-of-fame numbers, but he hasn’t won the super bowl.”

by Romo9 on May 1, 2008 3:41 PM CDT to parent up reply reply actions actions   0 recs

I hate over the top metaphors

Carved up the secondary? So completing 63% of your passes for 163 yards is considered “carving up a secondary”? That seems like nothing better than average to me.
