Cowboys going Hollywood

The Dallas Cowboys are going Hollywood. By now everybody knows we’ll be on HBO’s Hard Knocks this summer. But wait, there’s more. T.O. will make his own Hollywood mark this week.

T.O. will make his sitcom acting debut on the MyNetworkTV show "Under One Roof" as the long-lost brother of the show's star, Flavor Flav. Owens tries convincing Flav and sitcom sibling Kelly Perine that they're all brothers in hopes of getting them to invest in his Web site.

T.O.’s debut will be this Wednesday, but it’s only the beginning for the receiver-turned-entertainer.

"If I'm going to really consider doing acting after football, this a great start to let me get my feet wet," Owens said. "For an actor trying to become an A-lister, I think I'm on the bottom of the pile. I'm a D-lister."

T.O. talks a lot more about his potential acting career in the article.

[UPDATE] - The promotions people at MyNetworkTV wanted me to let you guys know that the show is on Wednesday, May 14th at 8 PM EST. They also sent me some links to a couple of clips from T.O.'s performance. Enjoy!

T.O. clip 1

T.O. clip 2

[END UPDATE]

Not to be outdone, Tony Romo sang Take Me Out To The Ballgame at a Cubs game yesterday and threw out the first pitch. The reviews for his first pitch?

Cubs fans showered Dallas Cowboys quarterback and former Eastern Illinois star Tony Romo with loud boos as he threw out the first pitch.

But what about his singing? Well, you can be the judge by watching the clip, here.

I'd say his voice ranks somewhere between his girlfriend's and a constipated basset hound.

Hat tip Deke for posting the link to the video.

ESPN has it’s early Power Rankings out and the Cowboys come in at #4.

Felix Jones should help the running game immediately. But who will emerge as the No. 2 receiver? Patrick Crayton wasn't up to the task in late '07.

Crayton’s playoff game performance still haunts this team. He better use it as motivation.

And finally, when I want opinion on the reinstatement of Pacman Jones, there’s only one place I turn to – The BBC.

You have to hand it to the Jacksonville management – I remember when they hired Jack del Rio and it seemed like a majority of commentators thought it was a random, screwy choice – now he’s “an elite coach” (from the linked ESPN power rankings)

Although Crayton had a terrible game against the Giants and probably cost us the game, I don’t think its fair to say that he wasn’t up to the task of being the #2 guy. For much of the year he did very well.

And we all know that Witten is the real #2 reciever.

by JamesR on May 12, 2008 11:44 AM CDT reply reply actions actions   0 recs

Witten

People forget that Witten is our real number 2. If you look at Craytons numbers as a number 3 and they are pretty darn good.

What the French?! Toast!

Very True

Not to many trio’s in leauge I take over Witten, T.O., and Crayton..

Agreed

I’d have been a lot better with Crayton’s gutless playoff performance had it not been for his big mouth.

by GhostofGaryHogeboom on May 12, 2008 2:41 PM CDT to parent up reply reply actions actions   0 recs

Not really.

Witten is still just a TE, and even a great TE does not equal a good #2 receiver. We need someone besides T.O. that can take them out of an 8 man front or heavy blitz package, and Witten is a blocker in that situation, not a receiver. Witten was out there when the Cowboys were unable to score a touchdown in 2 of their last 3 games, and unable to make plays in the second half in the playoffs. A real #2 receiver is someone that can step up when scheme or injury makes your #1 ineffective.

And, the fact that Crayton had a terrible game against the Giants and probably cost us the game is exactly the reason that people say he isn’t up to the task of being the #2 guy. It’s about more than stats. That’s somewhat the problem with the Cowboys the last couple of years – they weren’t built for the playoffs. When playoff time hits, you need a running game that can grind in the second half and receivers that can make clutch catches.

Where’s Alvin Harper when you need him?

I agree

We need to develop a #2, but we aren’t as bad off as media makes it seem..

We need one of the young guys to step in, they have a much better chance then any rookie.

I wish we could have signed Bryant Johnson to that 1 year deal instead of SF.

Atleast T.O.

is a better actor than Flavor Flav. T.O. sounds and acts like he’s doing an infomercial.

BBC

That BBC article was surprisingly good. Maybe the NFL is on to something with playing games in London.

Romo is a.........

.....well a lousy singer on top of everything else. I know he’s our QB but I don’t have to like the guy do I? I don’t think I’ve despised a Cowboys QB since Gary Hogeboom.

by Doomsday on May 12, 2008 4:28 PM CDT reply reply actions actions   0 recs

why

do you despise Romo?

If you can't like Tony

you can’t like any player, end of story.

Let's just say....

I haven’t bought in yet…..He’s more about antics and attention than the noxe-to-grindstone QB I loved in Staubach, White and Aikman.

But this is a new era and I’m not about this whole You-tube, My-life-is-on-Myspace, Everybody Look At Me generation. That rant was actually what I had in mind when T.O. signed but to my amazement, he has been 100 percent about football 100 percent of the season, albeit with a smattering of drama or a little splash of ego to remind us he’s still T.O.

I can not like any player I choose but right now I’m on the fence of despise. Something about him says “accident waiting to happen” and I can’t wait for him to prove me wrong.

by Doomsday on May 13, 2008 1:59 PM CDT to parent up reply reply actions actions   0 recs

he already has

Nobody in the league works harder than Romo, thats a fact. This “antics” and “attention” you speak of makes no sense to me. Romo just loves to have fun both on and off the field and thats the way life and football should be lived and played.

Romo is everything that is good about professional sports, just like his idol Favre.

Please Romo, no mo singing in public

Jeez, that was horrible.

He should have had a professional singer off-camera actually sing, while he did an obvious lip synch to it… Maybe pause in the middle to take a drink.
Now that would’ve been funny.

I used to play football...

but people say I’m uncoachable so I quit. LOL TO is the best. Gotta love his sense of humor.

TO seems to actually have some acting talent

he has camera presence, that’s for sure.

as for Romo, it is humorously horrible. Like me if I tried. I just hope he realizes it. He must.

Having fun

One of the things I like about Romo is that he is taking it all in as the quarterback of America’s team and enjoying every moment of it. He should. You never know when it will all be over. Hopefully that won’t happen until a few Super Bowl victories. That, however, is more dependent on the health of T.O. than Romo. I’m hoping that Stanback will have a breakthrough year. I don’t count on a stable of undrafted free agents to adequately sub for T.O. if he isn’t 100%.
