Dallas Cowboys set dates for training camp

The Cowboys have set the dates for training camp in Oxnard.

Those camping dates are official: The Cowboys will report to training camp July 24 in Oxnard, Calif., and begin their three-week practice schedule on July 25.

[snip]

The Cowboys are tentatively scheduled to leave Tuesday, Aug. 12 for Denver, where they'll practice with the Broncos on Wednesday and Thursday of that week and then on Friday by themselves before Saturday's preseason game on Aug. 16.

The team will return home after the game to finish their preseason schedule against Houston and Minnesota at Texas Stadium.

Uh oh, Marion Barber and Ken Hamlin haven’t been showing up for workouts at the Ranch. Both guys have yet to sign their tenders.

The Cowboys are almost seven full weeks into their off-season conditioning program, which is nearing its halfway point.

While nearly all the players have participated in full, Marion Barber and Ken Hamlin have not been among them.

When the Cowboys conduct a three-day OTA (organized team activity) practice schedule next week, it's likely those two players will not be in attendance.

Jerry’s not worried, yet.

"Not at all," Jones said during the team's annual golf tournament for sponsors, held at the Cowboys Golf Course in Grapevine. "I would like them to be here. But right now, we're working on a few things. I think when the time comes, they'll be ready to go."

More on Barber in this Star-T article and a little about Pacman Jones.

Jerry Jones said suspended defensive back Pacman Jones has been in Dallas since the team traded for him, but that he remains unable to participate in any function at the team facility. Pacman Jones and Jerry Jones have visited, but the defensive back has not taken a physical from the team.

The NFL will have to approve whenever Pacman Jones is allowed to work out with the team at the facility.

"I do want him to come in and be a part of the team activities and off-season conditioning," Jerry Jones said. "I understand why he can’t. … He does know what he needs to be doing to prepare himself strength wise."

It's REAL simple

Love ya Marion. But you are NOT LT.

If he’s insisting on LT money, sorry, play for the tender and move on after next year. No team in their right mind is going to give him more than the $30mil Dallas offered.

I agree

If MB3 and his idiot agent become unreasonable in their demands, I’d be more than happy to go with Choice and the Cat in 2009 and beyond. Since the offense revolves around Romo and the passing game anyway, these kids would be more than sufficient.

I agree, accept...

We dont know if either “el Gato” or “Taster’s” Choice are going to be successful at the NFL level. And if we dont have a viable running threat it will greatly diminish our passing game’s effectiveness.

we'll certainly know after this season

especially if the Cowboys can’t reach a long term deal with MB3 as they’ll give the Cat and Choice plenty of opportunities to see what they got.

+1 Terry....I think it's an insulting demand or notion on Rosenhaus's part to think MBIII actually deserves anywhere near LT's money...

You don’t get paid for style or popularity points in the NFL…show me the numbers…show me more than 3 career NFL starts….show me 1 1,000 yard season….Show me he’s not the guy who ran for just 28 yards on 12 carries in the second half during a playoff game against a defense that was already on the field for nearly 40 minutes…..show me he can produce more than 6 yards rushing against a Washington D line that nobody on this blog could name 2 of or any of the 4 four starting linemen ….The more OTA’s he misses, the thought of missing training camp, the thought of holding out while being a RFA is absurd….I am more than comfortable going into this season with the two rookies if this clown is going to try to strong arm Jerry into a proposterous contract proposal…..SHOW US MBIII …...that you are a worthy “franchise” type RB…...cuz til now…you HAVE NOT shown us a thing that makes us or Jerry believe you deserve more money than Michael Turner….being selected to the ProBowl as a back up during the year in which Shaun Alexander, Duece McCallister, Steven Jackson, Caddillac Williams, as well as others were out for lengthy periods due to injury… doesn’t impress me one bit.....I for one laughed at the thought of a back up RB with less than 1,000 yards would be even considered for pro bowl nomination….surely shows you this is purely a popularity contest, huh Roy Williams ????

I haven’t watched that game in over 10 years….means absolutely nothing to me…

When you are placed on the ALL PRO team…..THEN you can be considered elite…and get paid as such….till then…..get your azz in camp man…....mister “team” player….

I hope we don't resign MBIII till after the season....see what he brings as a starter.....

I believe if MBIII starts and produces a 1,200 + season, 15 + TD’s, and remains healthy throughout the ‘08 season…he will get paid…..not LT or LJ money…..but he would be deserving of a 6 year deal in the 36-39 million range 16 million bonus…....He WILL NOT see more than 40 million…....IF he thinks or demands more than that…....see ya, we just drafted your replacements…

Plus

I just love watching MB3 run and I’d rather he did it with a star on his helmet. Now Im not saying he deserves LT money. I think JJ & Stephen offered him a fair contract. Guess I’ll just have to cross my fingers.

agreed

Plus we have our 3 Pro-Bowl Lineman locked in to long term deals. I think MB3 will wise up..
It maybe tough to talk him down if he drops 1300+ yds sharing carriers next season.

Part of his problem

Part of his problem might be that he wants more guaranteed money, since he has such a violent running style. When you run the way that he does, you never know when you will run out of gas or get injured. Look at Earl Campbell, and MB3 is nowhere near the horse that Campbell was. Based on the typical career span of an NFL back and MB3’s style, this may be the last big contract that he gets, unlike other guys his age at different positions who can play a few years and then probably get another nice deal.

If you think this is bad wait until Newman's

agent hits Jerry over the head with his asking price. 60-70 Mil, bank on it….

If that would be Newman's intial offer

there is no question Jerry will get that deal done.

No freakin way!

Your crazy. Jerry is not giving Newman anywhere nears that amount for CB turning 31 yr. old next Sept. Not happening, not way. That’s a Asante Samule type contract and Newman’s not sniffing that type of coin. I’ll bet my pension on it!!

by Boyzfan94 on May 15, 2008 12:14 PM CDT up reply actions   0 recs

I never said he was

I said if that was Newman’s intial offer, the deal would eventually get done because they wouldn’t be that far apart.

Its called the art of negotiation which Jerry and Stepehns are masters.

6 years / 48-50 million 30 mil bonus...only if he remains healthy and plays all 16 games this year.......cut off point for Newman...take it or hit the bricks...

There is no way he’s getting over 50 million…...unless it’s more than 6 years….and the last 4 years being cap friendly fodder….
