2008 Offensive Line Rankings & Analysis
Ultimate Fantasy Football Strategy has 2008 Offensive Line Rankings & Analysis and places Dallas in the second tier with a "Good" ranking. Here's the 2008 outlook:
2008 Outlook:
The Cowboys offensive line will return its five starters including three Pro Bowlers for the 2008 season. The Cowboys have one of the biggest offensive lines in the NFL anchored by Flozell Adams at left tackle. This line remained very healthy last season but even if it were to have to deal with injuries, there is plenty of depth with Free, McQuistan and Procter. One slight concern is that the yards per carry average for weeks 1 to 7 was 4.8 and it dropped to 3.9 for weeks 9 to 16. This may be a sign that the line is too big and getting older. The good news for the Cowboys is there are some very good young linemen who could take a starting job away from the two weak links on the line, Kosier and Colombo. Overall the Cowboys still have one of the best lines in the NFL but the younger linemen will have to perform or age could become a problem.
More detail are provided in the full analysis.

Kosier yes Colombo no
Colombo is certainly not a weak link. He effectively shut down Kampman on one leg (kind of). Do these people even know what they are talking about.
Secondly, I think if you exclude the last Washington game, as it is obviously an outlier, our ypc would be significantly higher.

Yeah
Colombo is solid, but I’d like to see McQ beat out Kosier. Kosier is good on pulling, but out of the 5 starters, he’s the one that could be upgraded. Also, he’d make a great back-up since he has experience at every spot besides center.

+1 Tom.....McQ just seems like more of a mauling run blocker, and is actually quite fast for his size.
so I don’t see it being a problem with him pulling either….LG is the position I look forward to for training camp competition, with Flo, Guroude, and Davis locked in….I’m sure McQ, Free, and Maten are looking for a spot to beat someone out…Kosier being that target…........Columbo will not lose his position to anyone we have behind him…...but he might not be resigned after this year either…..I hope he is….but he’s last on the pecking order of players to be resigned.

As much as I love Colombo I hope he isn't resigned
because that would mean that Free is the real deal, and could be Flo’s future replacement.
I really hope McQ beats out Kosier. For as big as McQ is he is pretty dang fast for an o-lineman, like when he chased down that guy on the blocked kick. He has a nice combination of size and athleticism, which could make for a devastating run blocker.

exactly....
Free should be able to go at RT by next season….save over 4-6 million by not resigning Columbo…and I haven’t been a big fan of Kosier as our long term answer at LG….He was brutally outplayed in that Giants loss….....McQ.or Marten….It’s time to step up…It’s now or never for those two…

Jamie Dukes was on the NFL Network
the other day saying the Cowboys have easily, by far and away the very best O line in the league, he says no other team’s is even close. He was pretty emphatic about it, I thought it was interesting.

I could see that
3 of our 5 were pro bowlers and columbo could have been one. What other team can say that?

And this year the line should be at it's best with a year to play together and the proper teachings of Hudson Houck...

Weird analysis.
There analysis didn’t match the adjusted (made up) stats that they provided. They cite us as #1 running towards right end and #2 running towards right tackle, which would seem to show Colombo as one of the best run blockers in the league, but they say he is a weak link that is much better at pass blocking. Then, they rave about Flo, even though we were #31 running to left end, and Gurode, where we were #27 in the middle. I realize they concocted a formula to suit their needs, but it really seems to show the opposite of their analysis in this case.
I think it’s more likely that they said, “Okay, these 2 guys didn’t make the Pro Bowl, so they must be weak links. These guys did, so the running game woes can’t be because they were tubs that wore down at the end of games and at the end of the season – again. Now, let’s make up some analysis that doesn’t match our made up stats.”

Agreed
That’s one thing that continues to worry me is the team’s conditioning. I can’t imagine it’s some super fluke that they fall apart from December on every year. It’s like they’re constantly outworked and outrun as the season grows older. I’d like to see a fit team that can finish off a year.
