OTA observations

The DMN blog is the spot for the latest OTA reports on media days.

The Cowboys toyed with something today that a few of us have been mentioning, lining up MB3 and El Gato in the backfield together.

Barber and Felix lined up in the backfield together several times during today's workout. Barber lined up in front of the offset I with Felix starting at tailback and motioning out wide.

"I'm very comfortable with it," said Felix, who played some slot receiver at Arkansas. "Right now, they're just getting me introduced to it. They're just showing me some of the things that I can do in the future."

Miles Austin made a TD catch over Pacman today. WR’s coach Ray Sherman talks up Austin’s efforts.

"There's no question," WR coach Ray Sherman said after today's practice. "I think Miles Austin has tremendous speed. He's got size, he's strong, he's very athletic. With Miles, he was young, and he's starting to come around. He's made great strides from last year, from last camp. I really like what I'm seeing from him right now, and I expect him to get better."

Todd Archer gives some more details about today’s OTA including a Captain Caveman shoutout.

Bobby Carpenter has made some plays during these OTAs. His best was a left-handed knock down of a Brad Johnson pass to Tashard Choice in the flat. Carpenter had an active practice.

Remember

I have my eye on this make-or-break, bust-out season for Austin.

It’s now or never.

And it is Year #3.

So he’s supposed to finally catch on and put it all together.

Got dem fingas crossed!!!

Cashed Out

I noticed Will smith got cashed out. That gave that guy 70 million-I know Demarcus is going to get paid..

despite the one memorable drop in the playoffs

Crayton does have good hands.

Austin is the one who is fast, but with questionable hands. I’m hoping he can get some yardage this year other than thru PI calls!

Austin

He is the fastest, Tallest, and heaviest WR outside of TO. Looking at his measurables, he has #2 Wr written all over him..

indeed

it is easier to become a great receiver if one naturally has soft hands, but catching ability can be coached and improved with practice. Let’s hope this is his year to improve in that area enough to make a significant impact.

Makes me Wonder

If Austin catches the ball well in practice. I know a lot of guys that make every open jump shot when they are warming up and then can’t buy a basket during the game. I am interested to see if he needs to improve on catching the ball overall or improve on taking what he does on the practice field to game day.

I'm thinking the same

Austin has the look of a star and he can catch in practice, but can he transfer that success to the field in actual games? It sounds like a mental block. Hope he can break through this season and not be one of those guys who teases the fans every summer only to disappear in the fall.

That'll be the deal

he’s got the tools, but the mental part is what will make or break him.

That's what I'm bankin' on too, Tom

And also hopin’ and prayin’ for…

yeah, it's a good point

some guys don’t handle the pressure as well. and when they only get a few plays to show what you’ve got, they don’t have time to get comfortable. and there are few mistakes more obvious and disappointing that a receiver dropping a pass in his hands. hard to tell how much this is miles’ case, but it could well be.

+1

The kid is talented the reason he makes the active roster. He is the fastest, strongest Wr outside TO on this team.

Look up... get up...Don't ever, ever give up!!

I agree

Though I do recall a sure TD clanging off of Crayton’s hands in that Buffalo game.

Both guys will have good years, methinks.

I am hoping they

find a way to use El Gato like Philly uses Westbrook. Don’t know if Felix will be quite that good, but it sure has made up for their lack of WR talent.
