Happy Father's Day

Happy Father’s Day.

In honor of Father’s Day, check out this story in the NY Times about DeMarcus Ware.

Don’t forget that NBC will be showing highlights of Tony Romo’s round at Torrey Pines before the final round of the U.S. Open. Romo’s round starts at 2 PM EST. Speaking of the U.S. Open, Tiger Woods is a freak of nature. Did you guys catch his round yesterday, especially the back nine? Unreal. Practically on one leg, Woods showed why there is him, and then there is everybody else on the pro tour.

Bob Hayes shows up in an article about sprinters and is listed by one expert as among the three fastest guys he’s ever seen run.

Hayes ran 10-flat in the 100 final at the 1964 Tokyo Olympics on a cinder track. His anchor leg in the 4x100 relay is, said Dillard, the fastest he ever saw any human being run. Conservative estimates for the flying-start leg were 8.9.

More betting odds on the Cowboys.

America’s team the Dallas Cowboys are the big willies in the NFC East one year after the NY Giants showed the championship heart that earned them the 2008 Superbowl. The internet sportsbooks feel that the Giants Superbowl win was a fluke, and that the Cowboys are the truth of the division. Dallas is a team with no apparent weakness as the 2008 Cowboys head into the season at 6-1 NFL betting odds to win the 2009 Superbowl. like Babe Ruth and Michael Jordan

there will never be another athlete like Woods. His father created the most mentally toughest person who ever lived, he’s truly one of a kind.

i think Tiger's mom

had something to do with it too…

actually she didn't

His father is one who programmed and trained him, his mom was actually against it but his dad was obcessed about creating the greatest golfer of all time and he certainly accomplished that goal.

Watch the movie that portrays his life story, its really good.

i guess it worked

he is hands down the greatest ever, anyone who opposes that clearly didn’t see the last part of his round. he did it on one knee too. that putt from the edge of the green, unbelievable.

wow

saying a mother had nothing to do with anything that Tiger Woods is now is extremely disrespectful and naive.

I never said that, try reading what I wrote

I said his dad is responsible for his mental toughness, not his mom. I’m sure his mom was very inflential as to what kind of person he turned out to be, but with respect to golf it was all his dad and he’d be the first to tell you that.

Man

Tiger is amazing.

No doubt, we are watching history in the making with Tiger

Speaking of that… just watch NFLN replay of the Dallas-Detroit game. I was simply amazed at how good Romo really is. If you can watch that game and not consider him among the best QB in football, you’re an idiot or a hopeless homer…

It also reinforced to me why they acquired Zach, Pacman and the young CBs, and why improvements in Spencer and Tank will mean so much to the team. What a putrid defensive outing…

from that game on on...

we played like crap. we lost to philly 10-6 which was the worst football game i’ve ever watched, we barely beat carolina by 7 and TO’s ankle got screwed, and then we had the washington game that we lost 27-6. one could argue that we did not play our starters for most of the game but romo played a lot in it. The next game was the infamous playoff game, i’d rather not talk about it. From the Detroit game on, our offense only had four touchdowns. FOUR TOUCHDOWNS

Any game can tell a story

But the long term is the truth. Watching Romo’s performance against Detroit (Detroit?!) and deciding that he is one of the best…well, if you picked some of those other games that ctrain mentioned, you might come to the opposite conclusion. But, here’s a recap by the Detroit press of a crucial play in our final drive:

“During the Cowboys’ game-winning drive, Lions defensive end Jared DeVries knocked the ball loose from Dallas quarterback Tony Romo and the ball bounced right to Detroit linebacker Paris Lenon. The ball, though, bounced through Lenon’s hands and he booted it right to Dallas left guard Kyle Kosier.”

The Dallas defense stopped Detroit twice when all they had to do was run out the clock but couldn’t do it against our defense, so it seemed to me that they stepped up when they had to. However, the 2008 version of the Cowboys defense is going to be greatly improved.

The defense did step up

but over the course of that game and the rest of the season they gave up too many long third downs. The additions they’ve made should help put an end to that trend.

The end of the season was not great offensively but I wouldn’t put that on Romo. In most games he was the best offfensive player on the team. And beyond the eyeball test, he set franchise records for passing yards and TDs. Anyway, my point was generally – why do you still hear people questioning his ability? Winning in the layoffs is a ridiculous metric for a guy who has started for 1 1/2 seasons. It’s not like he’s been in the league for ten years and cna’t get a win. And when you watch some of the remarkable plays he makes, it’s pretty amazing.

I just watched that game too

and you are right Dunk, Romo is simply amazing. Some other observations -

1. Witten is the best all around tight end in football, end of discussion.
2. I won’t miss Julius Jones at all. You watch him and MB3 in the same situations and it’s not even close. MB3 does everything he can on every play to move the football and JuJo does his version of a three step drop – takes three steps and drops to the ground.
3. Hurd and Crayton need to develop some consistency but they make some seriously clutch catches in that game.

Wade needs to instill more of a sense of urgency in this team as that is what cost them games down the stretch. Talentwise, they are among the best but some of the younger guys need to understand how few chances teams get in this league and every one needs to be seized.

King!

I agree. I winced every time JJ touched the ball. Granted the O-line did a lot of “catch and release” of their assignments, but JJ would simply stop and fall down. Good luck to the Seahags.
