Cowboys' star 5th coolest helmet in football history
Promoted from FanPosts by Grizz.
Yahoo Sports Shutdown Corner has been doing a series on the 11 Coolest Helmets in Pro Football History, and the Cowboys' star checks in at #5
Think about the nature of a star, and what the Cowboys have done with it. A star is a pretty basic shape, right? It's right up there with the circle, the square, and the triangle. When little kids are learning about shapes and pounding them into matching holes, they're pounding stars, baby. Stars are big-time.
And the Cowboys have taken this basic shape, and through years of consistency and a winning tradition, have claimed it as their own. If you see a symmetrical blue star somewhere, chances are, you're going to think "Dallas Cowboys." The blue star is to the Cowboys what the red cross is to the Red Cross.
That's about the pinnacle for helmet recognition. Very few teams have ever taken a shape and staked their own claim to it. The rectangle is above being associated with any one sports team. The circle has too many universal applications to be claimed by any franchise.
Nobody owns the square. But the Cowboys have taken the star, or at least the blue one, and they've made it their own.

Nice post scott
Glad to see the Cowboys on the list, but come on, how are there 4 better helmets? I’ll concede that Pittsburgh might be higher on the list – I don’t like it personally, but I know many do and they are a historic franchise. But seriously, who else deserves to be on this list? If he puts the Browns on there I’m gonna be angry…but I bet he will. I mean, Pat Patriot got an honorable mention.
BTW, Scott, I’m going to be in Maui in October. Anything you’d highly recommend to a tourist (including a place to catch whatever Cowboys game is on)? Can’t wait.

yeah, I'm waiting to see who are #s 1-4...
I bet the Steelers are on there.
Re Maui, I work with an organization that maintains a traditional Hawaiian taro farm in Haleakala National Park in Kipahulu (past Hana), and we do cultural interpretive hikes that I think are one of the most fun and authentic experiences you can have, in my biased opinion. If you’re the type that likes getting dirty, you can even get in the mud and have a ball. You could make it part of a day on the road to Hana, or even stay overnight in Hana. If you’re interested I can recommend some vacation rentals out here. Check out kipahulu.org.
If you’re into history, I recommend the Lahaina historical walk put on by Maui Nei. And Ulalena is a show that is very worth seeing. A visit to Haleakala at sunrise is spectacular. October is a little too early for whale watching unfortunately. Hope that helps. Email me as the time approaches and your plans form up, and I’ll be glad to help out with other suggestions or answer any questions. scott(at)aloha.net.

The list is only pro helmets
But those are certainly iconic. Of course, one might consider Michigan and Ohio State semi-pro.
