Pacman cleared to participate in all Dallas Cowboys team activities except regular season

Pacman Jones and the Dallas Cowboys got some good news today. He's not all the way back, but Roger Goodell has cleared Pacman to participate in everything but regular season games.

When the Dallas Cowboys begin their third week of organized team activities on Tuesday at Valley Ranch, Pacman Jones will be on the field, but his ability to play in the regular season has not been finalized.

NFL commissioner Roger Goodell on Monday notified Jones that he may participate in the OTAs, minicamp, training camp and preseason games. Goodell will make a final determination on a full reinstatement by Sept. 1, six days before the season opener at Cleveland.

[snip]

"This limited reinstatement is a step in the process," Cowboys owner and general manager Jerry Jones said in a statement released by the team. "Adam is aware of the things that need to be done in order to take the next step."

Forgot to hat tip TheJeezus and scottmaui for posting the Pacman news long before I did.

Awesome news.

My opinion from the beginning has been that the best thing for everyone involved would be to let him participate in practice and worry about him reinstating him for actual football later. I’m glad to see Goodell has gone this route. It makes the most sense for Pacman’s discipline situation – having him around the team can only be good for him as a person – and clearly makes the most sense for the Cowboys organization to have him working out with the coaches in case he does get reinstated.

Since Goodell’s already given the pre-season go-ahead, though, I’d be shocked if Pacman doesn’t play game 1 (barring something stupid happening … which is obviously a risk). But either way, I think this was the best thing for Goodell to do, even if Pacman doesn’t play at all this season, which is looking less and less likely.

Brilliant decision

He’s basically out on parole. He can prepare for the season and get help from team mates and Dallas mentors/counselors, and Goodell can keep him out of the NFL without any further processes or permissions (like an NFLPA blessing) if he screws up. And he wouldn’t be an NFL player if he screws up, just another guy…

this is good

i agree, this was the right move. it gives pacman every chance to succeed by being able to fully participate with his team and all the support that comes with it, while still keeping him one step from the void if he messes up at all. and it bodes very well that if he does in fact stay clean, he’ll be fully reinstated in time for the season. yoohoo!

Let the integration begin

Now that he’s under the Cowboys rehab program, I’m a lot less worried something bad will happen. By the time he gets to Aug/Sept. clean, Goodell will fully re-instate him. If he does somehow screw this up, I doubt he’ll ever play in the NFL again.

+ perfect move......one more slip up....your gone Pacman....

This all but assures us he’ll be playing for us…..Think of the possibilities….This year sure will be special….If we don’t win it all, I’d be shocked and disappointed…...This is by far the best overall roster in the entire league…hands down…

I don’t know that I’d be shocked, but I’d sure be disappointed. The NFC East is a tough division to make it through, but there’s really no reason we shouldn’t be the league-wide favorite with Pacman, Jenkins, etc. beefing up the secondary.

If not the best, close to it

Pass defense has held the team back for years. Two or three stops in the playoffs would have made all the difference. Now the team has both cover guys and pressure players. I like the odds.

Jerry and the cowboys

have really gone to bat for this kid. If he blows this chance, he deserves to be banished from the league forever. I sure hope he realizes the magnitude of this chance and plays like an all pro for years to come.

This is Great

For so many reasons..

Romo will be praticing against one of the best trio’s in the league, that can only make him better.

Our young WR’s will get oppurtunity to pratice against another Good CB.

Our young CB’s will get to see another good CB in action..

Good day!!

Goodell has to keep PacRat's feet to the fire

or he’ll screw up again for sure. Wouldn’t be surprised if there is a 4 game suspension during the regular season before he can play.

In Romo we Trust

I was expecting a 4 - 8 game suspension before this news...

But now I can’t see Goodell holding him back unless there is new news. My money is on Pacman playing in game 1.

I agree

He’s basically saying that Pacman can play from Day One if he stays clean.
