where would he go!!!!!
Again another brain dead move by Jerry Jones. There is no reason to rush to sign a 34 year old player when he still has a year left on his contract.

It wasn't about giving him a better contract
It was about extending his contract to create more space under the cap. Chances are good he’ll play at least 2 more seasons, so you have to turn his salary into guaranteed $$ to spread the cap charge. This wasn’t a brain dead move , it was a no brainer move.

?
so you’d rather wait till the offseason free agency timeline to get things done with the most prolific Dallas WR of the modern day era ? it’s more like a “no brainer”.....keeping TO keeps Romo happy, keeps Garrett happy, keeps us happy…...next up….Chris Canty and Ken Hamlin…

"If you don’t take him off the field as a coach, he will just about die out there," Jerry Jones said. "That impacted my decision. It’s a Michael Irvin-type work ethic. That’s what we are talking about with Felix Jones."

btw........I assure you TO's new contract opens up more cap space to sign other players as well....
Instead of the 7-8 million he was to cost this year.against the cap…..I bet his cap hit this year is way less…...enough to sign Hamlin and Canty….

+1
This was necessary to open cap space to get Canty and possibly Hamlin re-signed. No surprise that TO was extended.

$13 million guaranteed
Owens will receive $12.9 million to sign and $100,000 of his $830,000 2008 base salary guaranteed, for a total of $13 million guaranteed. He is now under contract through 2011.

lol.....'08 $830,000 thousand base salary ?????
awesome….Steven Jones is one helluva capologist…..I not totally sure…but i believe his ‘08 cap hit will be in the 4.3 to 4.5 mil range = 1/4th of bonus plus base salary ??? 3.25 mil bonus + 830,000 base….as opposed to his old 7 + mil cap hit…..so we saved over 2.5 million in ‘08 cap space by resigning him….I am sure his 2010 (uncapped year) salary is well over 10 million…..............great signing…

savings of $2.9M cap room
The Cowboys have opened up nearly $3 million in salary-cap room by signing Terrell Owens to a four-year deal worth $34 million.Owens will receive a signing bonus of $12.9 million and a base salary of $830,000 ($100,000 is guaranteed). So let’s prorate the $12.9 million over four years, which gives us $3.225 million. Add that to the proration left on his original three year deal ($1.666 million). Then add his $830,000 base salary and you come up with $5.721 million.
Owens was scheduled to count $8.666 million against the cap this year, so there’s the savings of $2.945 million
