Trade Ellis plus pick to Bengals for Ocho-Cinco

Ellis plus pick to Bengals for Ocho-Cinco.

C'mon Jerry make it happen!

Jason Taylor is wanting to reunite with Thomas in Dallas, but that would be stupid to trade for him if he's only got a year before he retires. Supposing we would give up Ellis for Taylor, why not give up Ellis and a draft pick for Ocho-Cinco.  We've awarded T.O. with a contract extension.  Our Defense is solid even without Ellis, and we need to solidify our receiving corps.  Newsflash!!!  83 will never be the Terry of old.  It's time to say goodbye and wish him a happy life outside of football.  It pains me to say it, and I hopefully am wrong, but all the medical opinions point to no chance in hell.  Terry should have had surgery last season instead of trying to come back for a Super Bowl bid.  He got a little greedy and hurt Dallas in the long run.  Jerry, C'mon, redeem yourself for passing up on Mendenhall and pitch for Ocho-Cinco.

Please, please, no

I’d rather see one of the young guys step up than take a chance on Chad. I have yet to see any quotes from Chad this offseason that made any sense. I’ve also yet to see any quotes from any teammates that support him. Rumor has it he attacked one of his coaches at halftime of a playoff game. That’s not a guy I want on my team.

T.O. wasn't a guy I wanted on my team either....

but when you’re catching touchdowns, the whole Cowboy world will love you. Chad would love the bright lights of a new stadium…

by Ed Harris on Jun 2, 2008 11:22 PM CDT   0 recs

Maybe

but what if all of those lights are shining on TO? Is he still going to love them then?

by rhbgsherb on Jun 2, 2008 11:24 PM CDT to parent up   0 recs

He plays with TJ Whosyourmomma

And sort of with Chris Henry. He’s used to the ball being spread around. I’d be more worried about TO.

by GhettoBear04 on Jun 3, 2008 3:27 PM CDT to parent up   0 recs

Plus...

Cincy turned down 2 #1’s before the draft from Washington for him. I can’t imagine what we would have to give up to get him.

by rhbgsherb on Jun 2, 2008 11:22 PM CDT   0 recs

Marvin Lewis is playing mind games...

Adam Schein of Sirius NFL Radio says that Chad’s gotta go. What better home for Ocho-Cinco than Big-D? 2 unproven #1 picks is not as good as a proven Ellis and another #1 pick… I wold have been ticked off if the Redskins had beaten us to the punch on C. Johnson.

by Ed Harris on Jun 2, 2008 11:25 PM CDT to parent up   0 recs

A proven Ellis and a #1

is way too much for Chad.

by rhbgsherb on Jun 2, 2008 11:28 PM CDT to parent up   0 recs

hmmm

The Bengals just switched to a 3-4!!

I am torn, I really don’t want to trade away our depth at pass rusher. Man, thinking about Chad and TO together.. phew…

Bengals 3-4 Defense...

My thoughts exactly…and Ocho plus T.O. can cure any man’s E.D.!!!!!

LOL......too funny....

A true diehard Cowboys fan since 1975.

"If you don’t take him off the field as a coach, he will just about die out there," Jerry Jones said. "That impacted my decision. It’s a Michael Irvin-type work ethic. That’s what we are talking about with Felix Jones."

Salary Cap

Could not happen. Period. No big WRs are coming now. Not only do we not have the cap room to absorb Chad’s contract, but there is also a cap penalty for trading players. The Boys might have enough to re-sign Ware, Hamlin, and Canty right now with more backloaded deals. Maybe something will happen next offseason, but the only WR action we might see is going to be someone who gets cut from another team.

We’ve got about 4 years to shine. Besides, I like our D much better with Ellis.

by grapejoos on Jun 3, 2008 12:52 AM CDT   0 recs

Cut from another team?

You mean someone like WR Chris Henry?

by Ed Harris on Jun 3, 2008 1:25 AM CDT to parent up   0 recs

Someone LIKE that

But not him specifically, he’ll be suspended all year. I predict that if Glenn doesn’t get cut, we’re set at WR. If we did cut Glenn, then we could take a look. I’d give Koren Robinson a look, should be able to get him on the cheap.

by grapejoos on Jun 3, 2008 1:30 PM CDT to parent up   0 recs

That scares me

I don’t know about you, but I don’t want to guy who was the #4 receiver last year in Green Bay to be my #2. Robinson always has, and always will, be an underachiever. It’s a real shame. The guy has the talent.

by Mandmeisterx on Jun 3, 2008 2:00 PM CDT to parent up   0 recs

Robinson may still have some game left

Robinson played well last season in limited opportunities. He got caught in a numbers game in Green Bay – they have one of the deepest wide receiver corps in the league. If memory serves, some issues with Robinson’s alcoholism raised their ugly head around the time he was cut, but it was more attributable to his brother than him. Robinson is not a jerk or a constant law-breaking goon like Adam Jones is (or, hopefully, was). He has addiction problems and that has led to some unfortunate run-in’s with the law. By nearly all accounts, he is a really good guy when he can resist the urge to drink.

I may be going out on a limb here, but I think Koren Robinson could be as good as Crayton if he can keep his unfortunate addiction in check – nothing special, but still a very good #3 or fringe #2 kind of guy. I certainly wouldn’t want him to take the roster spot of a young guy showing potential. But if Glenn is cut and Miles Austin looks like garbage in the preseason, we may be looking for a fifth wide receiver. Robinson could be that guy. No need to sign him now – just someone to keep tabs on in case the injury bug hits or some guy(s) don’t pan out.

by Cowboy Louie on Jun 3, 2008 3:08 PM CDT to parent up   0 recs

It would be an interesting choice.

I would prefer someone with speed on the other side of TO. TO is fast, but is more of a physical receiver than a speed guy. Witten is a TE not named Antonio Gates or Dallas Clark. Glenn is supposed to be the deep threat, but Crayton certainly is not.

I like this idea, but I don’t know if it’s worth the risk. That would require some investigation by the Cowboys, the likes of which I can’t provide. Plus, I’m not sure how much Crayton would like getting usurped for a player of a similar caliber.

by GhettoBear04 on Jun 3, 2008 3:31 PM CDT to parent up   0 recs

Good point

When I suggested Robinson, I thought he had his alcohol problems under control. He’s not a speed guy, so it’s a fair point. I can’t think of any better speed guy available, but there may be some.

I suggested Robinson because he will be able to fit into the role we have, but I’m not sure he’s better than a #3, and it may just slow Stanback’s/Austin’s development.

No thanks

I don’t want Ocho Cinco coming in and corrupting the system that we’ve established. Everything is meshing beautifully right now, and with the interruption of a WR like him…it could turn sour quick.

My popcorn's ready!

by CowboyBawler4 on Jun 3, 2008 1:01 AM CDT   0 recs

No way!

Ellis isnt leaving not for Taylor not for Chad. Ellis is hear to stay i cant see the cowboys doing him dirty. He has stepped up huge for this team. He is a great compliment to Ware. Miami wont do a straight up trade for Taylor and anything more would be crazy. Ellis will play longer, already knows the system, already knows the opponents.

Ellis + First rounder no way. Cowboys are keeping their players. Im sure they see TO playing atleast 3more years. So no hurry to replace him. They have a great number 2 WR that will be hear for another 10years in Witten. They dont need to add anyone else to this team. 13-3 and 13 probowlers does that.

What the French?! Toast!

Alright bro...

Let’s hope you’re right!

by Ed Harris on Jun 3, 2008 9:13 AM CDT to parent up   0 recs

Let me..

rephrase that alittle bit. The Cowboys dont need to add anyone for lets win now meaning someone whos only going to play another year(Taylor) or someone whos already in their 30s(CJ). Of course young up coming talent is going to be added. They have the players to win now!

Where is the Need?

The Dallas Cowboys do not need to improve their offense. The 2007 version was a Super Bowl caliber offense and it will likely be upgraded around the margins at running back (Felix and Choice likely better than JuJo), tight end (Bennett likely better than Fasano) and wide receiver (Stanbeck, Hurd and Austin have more experience).

We should not be making rash decisions aquiring more high recognition name players to build a ‘fantasy football’ roster on 2008 that compromise our salary cap after 2008. And we sure as heck shouldn’t be trading away premium draft picks to do it either. The Cowboys should be managing this team in a way that it will compete for a Super Bowl for the next 3-5 year, not just 2008.

by Cowboy Louie on Jun 3, 2008 11:38 AM CDT   0 recs

It's not a need...but it would be nice.

Is this offense the best offense in the league right now? No, but it’s in the top 3. This would definitely make them the best on paper.

I’m just not sure that it would work out in real life like it would on paper. It works in Indy to have 3 excellent receivers, but it didn’t really work with the Bengals last year. It works in NE and Dallas to have 2 good receivers, but it doesn’t work near as well elsewhere.

That’s why I’m conflicted. Do the Cowboys have enough weapons on offense to win a Superbowl? I say yes. Could this move make the offense like the ‘98 Vikings or the ‘07 Pats ? Is it worth the risk to find out? I’m just really conflicted.

by GhettoBear04 on Jun 3, 2008 3:37 PM CDT to parent up   0 recs

If the Giants can....

win the Super Bowl with the offense they had, then we should have no problems doing it with the offnse that we have. Yes, I realize that the Giants did it more with their defense. But that’s kind of my point. I think we need to be more worried about how the defense plays, especially in December and January.

by WB3forMB3 on Jun 3, 2008 6:02 PM CDT to parent up   0 recs

Agreed

Dallas has plenty of offense to win a super bowl. Romo and TO have to stay healthy, but every team has a similar condition.

by grapejoos on Jun 4, 2008 12:18 PM CDT to parent up   0 recs

YES SIR every team!!

It’s the off-season.. Offseason equals speculation..

We need to discuss what we are going to do to get ready for the Browns!!

Chad THE MOUTH Johnson is certainly not a man of his word

For all his running of his mouth this offseason, he’s been pretty quiet the last couple of month’s, but guess who is going to show up at the Bengals OTA’s next week, that’s right, Chad THE MOUTH Johnson, the guy who has been shooting off his mouth all offseason and said he wouldn’t play and that he’d sit out the season if he had to becaause he wanted to be traded, well, the bengels called his bluff, I guess, the mouth himself, chad Johnson is not a man of his word as he heads to the OTA’s next weekend with his tail between his legs….

by Deke on Jun 3, 2008 4:44 PM CDT   0 recs

We don't need CJ, we do need Ellis.

It’s a mute point now, he’s back with the Bungles. Like Deke said, with his tail between his legs. I think it’s pretty damn funny.
