Cupcake, part deux
From the DMN:
Instead of ending the three-day minicamp with an hour-long practice, Phillips made it family day at Valley Ranch.
Players reported for meetings at 11:45 a.m., then had a picnic with family members as the Cowboys concluded their organized on-field workouts before training camp begins next month in Oxnard, Calif.
Here we go again...A picnic?! Go out to lunch, something, anything but a picnic...lol
Is it any wonder why this team lacks a killer instinct?

I am not too happy at first glance with this...
but this idea that Wade runs a cupcake picnic is extreme.
the bottom line: are these guys mature enough, and do they want it enough …
and the answer seems to be yes.

you gotta lighten up starred4life
what the heck is the big freakin deal, c’mon. These mini camps and OTAs are just teaching camps, they’re really not that big of a deal. The real work begins in July.

Yeah, I think that you need to understand that the cowboys have almost all of their players returning from last year and the new players in are veterans that are familiar, at least in part with their assignments. The rookies will need to take their time off to learn their playbooks so that when training camp starts, they will be ready to strap on the pads and get ready to work.
I actually think that team building stuff like this is actually REALLY important at this point in the season.

exactly
I think picnics and the like are really important for team chemistry and bonding. Don’t forget we have plenty new players this season who will contribute significantly. They need to feel a part of the team family.

You also cannot dispute how the Giants became a TEAM in the postseason.

+1
Showing the players you care about them and their family is not a bad thing. I know when my company has events for the family my wife really appreciates it. I am from Cali and we live in Nevada, so we don’t have a lot friends. A lot of these players are displaced from there hometowns, so the ability for their wives and families to mingle is a positive thing, especially when they build on the those bonds when the season comes and the guys are gone 90% of the time.

+1 I see this as being an annual event each and every season....

I think it's pretty cool
Fostering team camaraderie is Wade’s style. I’d rather have a locker room where players and coaches get along. Canceling one day of mini camp will have no bearing on the season.

Gruden in Tampa cancelled his last day of mini's too...It's about showing appreciation for the hard work and progress shown in those offseason OTA's and voluntary strength/conditioning camps...

I bet Lombardi never cancelled practice for a picnic
I don’t mind a little “bonding” time, but why not schedule it after practice?
This team has a LOOOONG way to go to get sharp. I don’t think more picnics is the answer to our sloppy pass coverage.

Picnics don't
But trading for Pac-Man and drafting a CB in the 1st round does..
Dallas has addressed that area of concern and one less Padless practice isn’t going to hurt anyone..
We are talking about practice?-Allen Iverson…

Lombardi could never coach in this era
his disiplinary ways are archaic and would never work with todays players.

13-3 With Camp Cupcake
Last year’s record should speak for itself. Had they not played the Giants in the first round, they probably would have gone to the NFC Championship.

OH btw......If you read into information provided...the Team actually DID work on the last day of mini-camp.
They had positional meetings before attending the family outing…...so enough of this nonsense already….. any and all that don’t feel this was a step forward in building team unity have no clue as to what makes a team work..

NO NO NO
This team hasn’t won a playoff game in a decade, they have finished the season meekly for several years, they have been called out for not being tough.
Enough is enough!
It’s only minicamp and this team has ALREADY forgotten what it felt like to lose the Giants game.
I don’t care if the players like each other, I care if they trust each other’s on-field competencies, and that only comes through practice, practice and more tough, hard-nosed practice! Where have all of the disciplinarians gone? I’m sure Bellichick and Coughlin aren’t scheduling any picnics. For goodness’ sake, schedule a picnic AFTER you win the Lombardi.
Let’s see now…
It’s amazing how history repeats itself. The last ime we had a picnic like this, we also had HBO Hard Knocks filming our training camp and the coach was being called weak. The team at that time was thought to be a talented group and one of the favorites to go deep into the playoffs.
Well, we all know how THAT season worked out.
I don’t like this at all.
"Well, we didn't block real good but we made up for it by not tackling."
