Chief Executive of Fantasy Land
It has been suggested in the past that if I did not want to read negative doom and gloom speculation, then perhaps I should read fairy tales instead of blogs. Well I gave it a shot and if I read another story about Tony Romo dating Cinderella, I think i am going to puke.
Lets take a look at some of the ideas I developed in Never Never Land...
TO will come to the Cowboys and be a model Citizen....
Tank Johnson will come to the Cowboys and be a model citizen...
Wade Phillips will come to the Cowboys and improve the team...
Parcells will restock this team and leave a winner when he leaves...
Jerry will not totally blow this draft...
Marion Barber will be a stud running back in this league...
The sky is not and will not be falling.
My take on being a fan of a sports team is not looking for the rain cloud in every move made or not made by my team. It is not in throwing the players on my team under the bus whenever the opportunity arises. It is not searching through the haystack made of positive straws for "yet another blunder".
Maybe my brand of fanaticism doesnt belong in todays sportsblog. I do not think that is the case, but it has been suggested that it is. I have been a proud Cowboys fan since I can remember. I was born in Dallas. I am a fan of all Dallas sports teams and have suffered through year after year of failure from the Rangers, the pre-Cuban Mavericks, and to some extent the years since '95 with the Stars. This past season of the Cowboys and the following offseason has been one of the most positive joy filled times being a Cowboys fan since the early 90s. I find it repulsive then the neverending stone throwing at the likes of Adam Jones, Jerry not drafting reaching for a receiver in the draft, trading for that nonexistent veteran wide receiver, signing that nonexistent game changing free agent receiver among other random doomsday rants.
I prefer to look at the frugal thoughtful moves made. This is going back to signing of Tony Romo, the improbable signing of Flozell Adams, the high risk vs reward signing of Zach Thomas and trade for Adam Jones. How about the genius draft getting a 1st round quality runner in Felix Jones and then coming right back and picking up a top 15 corner in Mike Jenkins. The salary cap defying trickery in extending TO, paying Terance Newman and signing Marion Barber. Who would have thought we could make all of this happen 2 months ago when all we were hearing was that the Cowboys were only about 2.5 million under the cap?
So go on. Throw your stones. Take shots at your beloved team. Tell me I am looking at the world through rose colored glasses. Continue to look for that rookie bust in the first rookie minicamp. Write off those seasoned veterans and throw our coach under the bus. I will continue to hope for and advocate all of those situations working out to Cowboys benefit. Maybe that means I dont belong on a sports blog or maybe it does. Perhaps it just means I am a different kind of fan.

I hear you
It can be frustrating at times, but what makes these blogs so active and interesting is the range of voices that you find. I think there are more of us who are impressed with what the team has done, but there’s less to say about it.
I think the team has done a tremendous job of adding impact talent to an already loaded team. There are risks, of course. Thomas has to stay healthy, and Pacman has to keep his nose clean, which are certainly risks. But the reward is huge, and we have depth at both positions in case it doesn’t work out. Jenkins can make a difference over what we put out last year, and Pacman can be the best CB on this team if he really commits himself to football (not holding my breath). Simply put, they’re 2 first round talents replacing 2 seventh round talents. Felix should be an upgrade over Julius, too.
If the team can get Ware, Hamlin, and Canty signed, I’ll be amazed. I think right now the plan is to get everyone locked in long-term, which normally would mean cap hell down the road, but Jerry is going to flex his muscle with this upcoming negotiation to raise the cap or something.
I agree 100%
I think Jerry is banking on the uncapped year in 2010. While I do understand that uncapped doesnt mean afree for all, what is does mean is that if you already have your own players on contract, you can afford to pay the high premiums for them. I think that if we dont see the uncapped year, then Jerry will make sure there are provisions in the new CBA ala the NBA where you can go over the salary cap to retain your own players. Its hard to say, but I think he did learn his lesson from the late 90s and will not sell out the future for a ring today.
I think Ware gets done in the middle of this year. Unless Hamlin backs off wanting to be highest paid safety in the league, he plays 1 year on the franchise tender. Canty should get done somewhere in the range of what Ratliff got.
Stupid Al Davis
The thing that’s making Hamlin difficult is that the Raiders made one of the worst safeties in the league (probably only half as good as Roy, sadly) the highest paid. Now Hamlin looks at it and says, “If this schmuck can get this money, think of what I’m worth.” Dumb GM’s and owners around the league are the only ones to blame for the inflated salaries. Players are going to keep asking for bigger contracts until they start getting told no.
You can blog with me anyday Impatient.....belcome back from your silent protest :-)
A true diehard Cowboys fan since 1975.
"If you don’t take him off the field as a coach, he will just about die out there," Jerry Jones said. "That impacted my decision. It’s a Michael Irvin-type work ethic. That’s what we are talking about with Felix Jones."
- Owner/G.M of the Dallas Cowboys , Jerry Jones
Welcome home
I knew you’d be back. Don’t let yourself get worked up over negative nellies, just chalk it up to difference of opinions and let it go.
T-New, shutting down WR's for Dallas since 2003
Let me join in welcoming you back Impatient
As I said, the door is always open to you. My one comment on your post is that no group of people all think alike. You have optimists, pessimists, dreamers and cynics. Having a lot of different opinions makes things interesting.
Anyway, welcome back.
Jerry should make the GM All-Pro team for the past two off-seasons
Your look at the big picture is right on
