Michael Strahan retires

The Cowboys won’t be dealing with one of the best pass-rushers in NFL history two times a year any longer. The gap-toothed one, Michael Strahan, has decided it’s time to hang up the cleats.

"It was important that my teammates knew which way I was going before they got on the field to start the work to defend our title," the team's all-time sack leader said from California. "It's time. I'm done."

Even though Strahan played for a rival and tormented the Cowboys on many occasions, I always respected his skill. The guy was one of the best at what he does and deserves recognition for that. But…I’m shedding no tears over his retirement. Good luck on whatever you’re going to do in the future Michael, but I’m happy that we won’t be game-planning for you any longer.

This is an annual ritual with Strahan

Eventually he will retire, but I will believe it when I don’t see him on the field in the fall.

I'm surprised

I figured he’d stick around for at least another season, if for no other reason than to recoup at least some money after his ex-wife cleaned him out a couple of years back.

after getting his ring,

he really has nothing left to play for, I knid of figured this was coming. This will make the GMen a weaker team which is always a good thing.

I agree with nothing to play for anymore for Strahan

Also the signing of defensive end Renaldo Wynn last week gave the indication to me that the giants organization knew the writing was on the wall that Strahan was going to hang it up..

Strahan is a great player that will surely be a first ballot hall of famer…

That's what I thought as well

but it’s eery to be in the middle of thread where Deke and Terry are agreeing. Grizz, can I un-post this???? I’m feeling a little disoriented…

"I loved his smile..."

His beautiful, gold digging blond wife said when asked what attracted her to him (never mind Emmitt Smith could have run between his two front teeth). A year after she said this she divorced him and took half his money.

Happy trails

I gotta say, I always liked Strahan. I’m glad he’s retiring because it makes the G-men weaker, but I’ll miss his persona in the game. Hopefully he’ll go straight to the broadcast booth – just don’t become one of the laughing idiots on a pregame show, Strahan, even if it was the part you were born to play. I’d much rather listen to Strahan than Tiki Barber.

I’m also glad he has the single-season sacks record, even if it was achieved through some questionable antics. He was a class player and formidable foe, and I’ll miss him.
