Question for the Dallas-area people

I'm here in Irving for 4 weeks training for my new job with AT&T. I was wondering if you guys knew of any good restaurants in the Dallas/Irving Area. This is my first time here since I was thirteen, back in 1996 (I think it was 96. Either that or 95). I'm looking for places moderately priced (If I can get in and out for less than $20, then I'm happy).

Thanks in advance!

There's a great bar...

I’m not sure of the exact location, but it’s somewhere off the expressway from Texas Stadium to the Marriot where the Cowboys stay. I’m not too sure about the prices, but it’s great food definitely.

My popcorn's ready!

Depends on your interests...

...but some of my fav restaurants in Dallas are:

Cuba Libre, Bob’s Steak and Chophouse, Maggiano’s, Penne Pomodoro (good gnocchi arrabiata!), Jake’s (Uptown one has a lot of….talent…the burgers are excellent too), and Joe T’s.

Bars I Like: Trinity Hall (best place to watch the other football), The Old Monk, Gloria’s (a chain of restaurants that has good happy hour specials throughout the week, especially the one on Lemmon, Uptown is good for dancing Thursday night, and the Addison one is nicer with drink specials that aren’t quite as good), and Firewater is a cool place that I never really went to that much.

But now I’m in College Station…sigh. It’s getting better, but I still miss Dallas a ton.

Downtown

Go to the downtown area to get some good food. You get to eat good and gaze at the beautiful skyline. Also uptown has a lot of good restaurants. I used to go to school there and we went to a lot of restaurants. I think reunion tower is being renovated and is closed, but that would have been a good spot. But try uptown and downtown.

Some places I liked when I lived there

Peggy Sue BBQ (Highland Park)
Blue Goose (several locations)
First Chinese BBQ (several locations)

Also there is a BLT Steak near the Galleria, I haven’t been to that one but the one in NY is great. Pricey, but maybe worth it if you have a per diem.

Dallas has great foods of all kinds, but the tex-mex and BBQ are what I miss the most. If you like that, you’ll be in heaven.

La Margarita

If you go to La Maragarita on Belt Line Road just north of the Irving Mall, they have great Mexican Food and drinks. One of our faves. It’s been in business for several years. Service if good and the food is awesome. They have one of the best bartenders in Irving. Drinks are out of this world. 2922 N Belt Line Rd It’s easy on the pocketbook, too.

If you like more upscale Mexican, then Via Real near the Four Seasons resort is very good, but pricey.
