Could Bolden be available?
FLAGSTAFF, Ariz. -- Arizona star wide receiver Anquan Boldin says the Cardinals lied to him about a new contract and that he has no desire to re-sign with the organization.
Boldin, a two-time Pro Bowl player and a team captain last season, said Thursday that he was promised a new contract before this season, and has directed his agent to stop negotiations with the team.

Looks like things are getting confrontational in Arizona, might Jerry make a phone call to see about the availability of Bolden....

wow
He’s been on the dream short list all off-season. maybe there’s a chance we get a veteran WR to start opposite TO after all (besides TG).

yeah in 3 years when his contract runs out
by that time he will be over 30. We won’t want him then.

Cowboys have about 8 million left in cap room...
Could save money, I believe, if the Terry Glenn situation doesn’t work itself out…
So a move is definitely possible if Dallas is willing to part with the necessary pieces…

if this happens.....
This could potentially spell the beginning of the most talented football team, top to bottom, in the history of the NFL!
With Pacman and a re-emerging Zach Thomas we could EASILY have SIXTEEN pro-bowlers next season! Tampa-or-bust never would have so much meaning!

man
That would be a dream come true, we aren’t the only team in the market for a WR. I know Philly and TB wanted to make a move.. Philly has a player of value that might interest Arizona in Sheppard..
Objectively speaking if I can get Sheppard and a quality pick I trade him to Philly.

He is a Drew Rosenhaus client
All he has to do is talk to TO and find out how well Dallas treats their star players. I’m not getting my hopes up too high, but after plugging away in AZ he might be looking at what happened when Bigg Davis moved to Big D, made the Pro Bowl, went to the playoffs, and is now on a team favored to win the NFC.

Good Point
After Moss went to New England caught 20+ TD’s and help lead them to undeafeted regular season teams are going to be hesistent, especially since we play them 6

He's gonna want a new deal
and a big one too. That could impact signing and resigning our own players into the future, like Ware

Canty
Has a better chance of being let go for Boldin..
Would you be willing to let Canty go, keep Spears, if it meant we could trade for Boldin and sign him to a long term deal?
Canty has Value in a trade.

It would take alot more than Canty to pry bolden away from Zona
More like Canty, a second and third round pick next year and a first in 2010

I'm Way off!!
There were three receivers during the offseason that everyone thought that had a chance of being traded, number one on my list was Roy Williams in detroit, Bolden number two and Chad Johnson number three.
I think Washington offered two number ones for Johnson, the bengals said no. The two Skins first round picks have a chance to be in the mid teens every year. Johnsoon is the oldest of the three receivers that some thought was available, athough I never thought Johnson would be traded, the bengals called his bluff and now is back in training camp with hs tail between his legs.
If the cardinas were to trade Bolden, and that’s a big if, but if things deteriate even more this training camp, the cards might be willing to move him. Canty, who is a nice player, but not an elite player and we all hope he has a breakthrough year, but he’s under contract for one year, so in order for the Cardinals to take him as an example, there would have to be a long term deal worked out, but even with that said, the Cardinals will want alot more than another draft pick for a receiver thats just entering his prime, who is polished and a clear number two receiver. Dallas is expected for the next three years to go deep into the playoffs, if not the superbowl, so a late number one has little value to the cards and is not going to do it along with canty, not close to being enough, you would need a second and a third round pick to get them to nibble, both a second and third are late in the round picks, alot less value.
During the draft, many cowboy fans thought our late first rounder would be enough to pry Williams from the lions, I laughed at that proposal, you’re talking about a lead polished receiver entering his prime, it would take ateast two first round draft picks and probably a two and thrid round pick, teams aren’t going to give you a number one or number two receiver for a player and a possible late frist round pick, that’s way off!!! The Cardinals organuzation may be dumb, but they’re not that dumb!!!

+1
Teams just don’t give elite players away, and they certainly don’t give away elite players at impact positions like #1 WR. I find the best way to look at this is to spin it around: what would you expect in return for an elite player on the Cowboys…..say Jason Witten or Terrance Newman or Terrell Owens? It wouldn’t be a first round pick and a nice player. You would want the house and justifiably so. Elite players force the opposition to game plan for them and they change the outcomes of games. Boldin is one of those elite players, as are the three receivers Deke mentioned in his post.
True #1 wide receivers are becoming increasingly scarce and more valuable as the NFL moves more to a passing league. They are what dominant running backs were 20 years ago. To get an elite #1 WR, you are going to pay through the teeth unless you draft one or take on a reclamation case (see: Owens, Terrell).
The odds of Dallas getting Boldin are extremely remote because Jerry has learned his lesson about giving up two #1 picks for a player….and it will take at least two #1’s.

I agree Deke
Im just saying we’ll have to give up someone or someones if Boldin were to sign here. Canty, Tank, Columbo, Burnett et al. Any combo of these guys could essentially get their walking papers after the season. And we’ll most likely have to give up a decent player and high draft pick to make a trade since Boldin is under contract through 2010.
by WB3forMB3 on Jul 24, 2008 7:08 PM CDT up reply actions 0 recs
Offer a one and a player
and if thats not enough then screw em. Well be exactly where we are right now, and that aint bad.
As far as the player I’d hate to see it be Canty or Burnett. Maybe Columbo, but damn hes solid over there, but maybe Free or Marten are ready. The staff would have to be sure of that though.
by Carl Shelton (GloryDayz88) on Jul 24, 2008 7:12 PM CDT up reply actions 0 recs
I think Burnett, Williams and Spears are gone for sure next year
I’d like to keep canty if the money right but I dont consider him a top notch defensive tackle, he’s good, just not great.
I love Columbo, he has a nasty streak, something we’ve missed at right tackle since Eric Williams manned the position, His team mate love him. He’s certainly solidified the right tackle spot but you cant keep throwing big money at the O-line, so I dont think he’ll be resigned with Free and McQuistan waiting in the wings.
I think a deal will get done sometime this year with tank if he excels in the philips 3-4 defense
by Deke on Jul 24, 2008 7:17 PM CDT up reply actions 0 recs
Canty's a defensive end, not a tackle
I agree about Canty not being great, but realistically you cant man every position with a great player. Most of your players have to be good to allow the great players to be just that. Plus you cant afford to pay 22 great players
by WB3forMB3 on Jul 24, 2008 7:32 PM CDT up reply actions 0 recs
I think Canty would be better suited as a tackle in a 4-3
Remember, Canty moves inside to defensive tackle when Dallas plays the nickel
by Deke on Jul 24, 2008 7:34 PM CDT up reply actions 0 recs
You might be right
But I think he’s on the verge of a breakout season. With his size and talent I would hate to lose Canty. He creates more opportunities for Ware.

That's in the fans heads.
The coaches probably love Spears. Just because guys like him and Carp are former 1st rounders, they get a bad rap if they’re not constantly disruptive players.
But you have a point if Jerrry doesn’t plan on resigning Spears after this year. Hatcher will be much more important to have around.

Bolden would be a blessing
This is a Super Bowl team if T.O. remains healthy. Without him, a championship would be much harder to attain. Bolden would give us that insurance policy. While he’s not T.O., he’s more talented and accomplished than anyone else on the roster and would help the offense to maintain its stride if something happened to our 35-year old star receiver. I hope we can get it done. A #1 and Carpenter? In a second.
by rrb on Jul 25, 2008 7:51 AM CDT reply actions 0 recs
Ask yourself this question
if you were the GM, would you trade your number two polished entering his prime receiver for a bench player in Carpenter and a possible last pick in the first round, I think you would not!!!
by Deke on Jul 25, 2008 8:24 AM CDT up reply actions 0 recs
Dallas is not trading Carp.
Because he has no market value—nobody has seen him play. We, fans, have seen little of him and we watch the team with hawkeyes.
It’d be like 2 #1s for a WR all over again. I think Bolden rocks, but he does get hurt every year. I always draft him in FF and he’s great while he’s in.
That #38 sure can hit!

Agree
Deke, I agree that while the Cowboys would do it, the Cards likely would not. I would expect Arizona to call Bolden and his agent in together, reiterate the commitment that the Cards have to him, and raise the ante to get a deal done. He’s not a player that they want to lose. But he’s a player that the Cowboys (and a lot of other teams) would love to obtain.

I can't see..
Jerry giving up what would take to get Boldin. All points made in previous posts….
Boldin is in his prime AND has 3 years left on his contract, i could see maybe if THIS was his last year and the Cards were going to be left high and dry, but they have three years to hammer out something.
by stephena on Jul 25, 2008 8:44 AM CDT reply actions 0 recs
Agreed
The Cards really have nothing to lose by keeping him this year. They may have to trade him next year, but seeing as how picks will be our main selling point, they can wait until the draft and get the same deal.
That said, offer a 1st and 3rd (or 1st and Spears/Carpenter) and see if they bite.

perfect fit, yes...
Chambers would have been a perfect fit and would indeed have been worth the second round pick that San Diego gave up for him (especially since we wasted the pick on a backup tight end who will never start his entire rooke contract unless Witten gets hurt, but that’s a different issue).
However, Chambers was traded in October and Parcells came aboard in Miami in December. Notwithstanding, I don’t think Parcells would have given him to us on the cheap. We would have had to outbid San Diego. As much as I dislike Parcells, I do think he would have tried to maximize value for the Dolphins as opposed to giving his former employer a break.

anythings possible
not a good sign for cards, unhappy players tend to be more trouble than their worth, especially when their team has been a lifetime resident of Scrubsville.
i like our team as is; but i would”nt be surprised about any moves Owner Jerry might make to futher stack the deck in our favor.
too bad we cant jus cut TG & fill that spot with Boldin.
T.O.-Boldin, the league probably come up with some rule to block that.
