While I give Parcell's credit for HELPING to rebuild the talent on this team I have to admit that I had quiet a good chuckle reading Newy's scathing commentary on Parcells and his integrity (or lack there of). He makes some very good points by the way. Worth a quick read.

Pretty accurate

Yeah Parcells helped build our team but he was a mediocre coach and an attention whore when the media showed up. I don’t miss him one bit.

Good article

You can’t discount any of the points the writer made. Paints a petty, selfish picture of Tuna.

Good for Newy

Strange how King William took so much time to decide to retire, leaving Jerry Jones with diminishing head coaching options after his departure. But now he says he made up his mind to retire on the flight home? So why’d he keep everyone waiting? It wouldn’t be because of his ego, would it?

I picked up a long, long, time ago-around 1985 or so-that King William is incredibly political. If his team wins, he collects all the accolades as the Genius Coach; if they lose, it’s because his players were incompetent.

The fact of the matter is the defensive playcalling was a joke his last two years here, and don’t try to pass the blame on to Zimmer. Parcells approved every single play call on the field. His offensive playcalling was so cautious it looked like a middle school playbook.

What no one will ever admit is that the franchise began recovering before Parcells arrived, and has done pretty well since his departure. The 2001 draft was one of the worst of all time, but the 2002 draft while flawed was still a big improvement. I’ll give King William credit for returning some discipline to the organization and for implementing the 3-4. Everything else was pretty much his own self-promotion.

I couldn't agree with Newy more

Last year, I grew so tired of people saying that BP changed this team around and that this team basically wouldn’t be able to function without the great BP. So I made a spreadsheet (keep in mind this was made last year) but it shows all of BP’s drafts while at Dallas. He had one really good draft (2005) and I’d say an average draft (2003) and 2 very poor drafts in 2002 and 2004. Now being the genius that he is, I would expect zero poor drafts.

Just as Newy said, he just wore me thin using “his players”.

And who couldn’t see that Jason Taylor was going to get traded. BP will have no part of a player on his team getting more attention than him.

Please stop

Bill Parcells was NEVER the General Manager while employed by the Dallas Cowboys. Never. Not even for one day. Even when Jerry and Stephen were on a family vacation or attending a baptism. Please don’t take this personally CH, but my frustration on this topic is on overload.

The General Manager is responsible for the draft…. not the Head Coach! That point is so straightforward that quite frankly, it not debatable. The job descriptions are very, very clear. The reason why many successful head coaches want both titles is because their egos can’t stand being forced to play a hand dealt to them as opposed to one they have control over. That is why Parcells left New England – remember the groceries comment?

I simply don’t understand why people judge Bill Parcells by the drafts the General Manager made while he was the head coach. Yes, he had some input into the process as evidenced by the "Bill Parcells Guys" we unfortunately acquired during the early part of his tenure. However, by definition, the final call was always made by Jerry Jones. It has been that way since he purchased the club in 1989. It will be that way until Stephen Jones takes over. Guys who hate Jerry Jones will hold him responsible for the draft and free agency during the unsuccessful years, but they oh so conveniently give the credit to someone else for the good drafts. Bill Parcells isn’t any more responsible for the 2003-2006 drafts than Wade Phillips is responsible for the last two. How come I never see even one post about Wade Phillips’ draft choices? Or Dave Campo’s?

Bill Parcells was the head coach of the Dallas Cowboys, and as such he was responsible and accountable for molding the talent he was given into a team and into a winner. The debate on whether he was successful on this count can rage on, but it is pointless to debate his "responsibility" for the draft or free agency while employed by the Dallas Cowboys because he never had any. In Miami, he is responsible for the procurement of talent, and in Miami he should be judged by that measure. But not his tenure in Dallas.

Parcells' Responsibility

I think Parcells was more involved and had more of a weigh in than you’re giving him credit for. Phillips’ or Campo’s drafts?? Please, they were (are) lucky to even get a seat in the war room.

Are you seriously telling me that a Bobby Carpenter and a Anthony Fasano are guys that JJ would draft. That has BP written all over it. As do all the other picks throughout his years here.

I don’t want this to sound like I defend JJ as a GM, I certainly don’t. I think he’s a great owner and of course he’s learned something about being a GM over the last 19 years but I’m not super confident in his drafts as well.
