Is Roy Williams a goner?
I came across this little blurb over at Dallascowboys.com. They were talking about Henry moving to Safety and they had a quote from RW:
"If I start, I start. If I don't, I don't," Williams said. "Whatever helps the team in the best situation, then they'll use me. If not, then somebody is better than me. I'm okay with that. The whole common goal is to win."
Now, maybe RW is just saying the right thing, or trying to be a good team mate or whatever. MAYBE!!! And maybe he is just being pragmatic, or just being a realist. MAYBE!!! But I'd sure like to see a little more FIRE in his belly than THAT!! How about somwthing along the lines of "If I lose my job then it wont be because I did't give it my all and fight my guts out." Or "If someone wants my job then they can have it when they pry it out of my cold, dead, lifeless hands". To say I'm "OK with that" is pretty weak in my opinion.
Come on Roy, show some SPUNK will 'ya!!!

sounds realistic
he knows he’s going to judged by how he plays on the field, no matter what he says. it could also be looked at as a playn it safe statement, personally i like phrases like I”ll do whatever it takes to help this team win.
Hope he means it
I actually like it
Look, we’d all like Roy to show some more fire or desire, but that may not be the kind of guy he is (either because he doesn’t have it or he doesn’t say it). I want him to be a team player, and it sounds like he is ready to be that. He can be used effectively in a SS platoon with Henry or Watkins, and I think that’s what the team has to do.
This is probably Roy’s last season in Dallas if he doesn’t have a great year, so I’d rather hear him saying things like this than puff his chest about 5 pro bowls, etc. Not everyone would be so willing to do whatever the coaching staff wants to do.
tough call
Roy is in a no win situation. If he says “whatevers best for the team” you jump on him, if he gets mad, he looks dumb. the truth is he probably isnt the smartest guy (he certainly has never said anything that makes him look better.
But I think you are right. He has made too much money too fast. He has won too many accolades. I think the risk reward has swung the wrong way. He has a lot to lose and not much to play for. (Yes he he should want to play for a ring, but I dont get the sense he is even that motivated to do that).
Its tough to play for a while, get rich beyond your wildest dreams and still come up with a way to play angry and put yourself in harms way with aggression.
Greg Ellis doe a great job of it and seems to spend all offseason working himself into a frenzy over perceived slights. Of course when he does get a chip on his shoulder half the idiot fans start calling him a malcontent and can’t see it for what it is – an old player trying to keep an edge and play with fire.
Charles Woodson
I could see Roy being like Woodson, come out hot, fade out for a little bit, and then come on strong with another team..
Roy with a star on his helmet is a no win situation, the team has already decided phase him out, so there is no way to redeem himself..
"If you see me up in the mountains with a lion, I ain't lyin
don't help me, help the mountain lion"
The team decided to phase him out by his Play on the field
The problem is Roy came out of College shinny hot and has been fading like a shooting star ever since, burning itself out….
RW
** Playing more press coverage at the line of scrimmage, Roy Williams fought off tight end Tony Curtis to knock down a pass that prompted a fan to say, ‘Roy’s back.”
"If you see me up in the mountains with a lion, I ain't lyin
don't help me, help the mountain lion"
I knew you would like that..
I set that one up for you, so you could spike it down..
"If you see me up in the mountains with a lion, I ain't lyin
don't help me, help the mountain lion"
