RB Notes

With MB3 being the only game-experienced back on the team, the depth in Dallas' backfield is one setback away from being thin.

Now, there are some fringe players that may make their mark enough to sign onto the practice squad or maybe even crack the bottom of the opening day roster. Alonzo Coleman, last year's Practice Squad RB, needs a good training camp to remain with the team another year. Keon Lattimore, Ray Lewis' little brother, is a rookie free agent competiting to be somebody other than just a camp body.

But is there room on this current Cowboys roster to keep 4 RBs? We all know Barber, Jones, and Choice are practically locks to contribute during the regular season. But it can be argued that Felix won't really be Barber's backup, but really his complement. As the season progresses, we may be seeing El Gato serving numerous roles out of the backfield, on special teams as well. He will be busy. Choice will provide the backup duties, so I don't see him being considered the 3rd string tailback--to me, he is THE backup.

Maybe Coleman will prove to Garret & Co. that they need to keep him active so another team can't sign him away. Lattimore may be viewed as a possible RB/FB hybrid which would give the roster some versatility should the Cowboys decide to stick with just The Cricket at FB. Who knows? Dallas may even pick up a flyer on the waiver wire to compete for that last RB spot.
