Terry Glenn to Miami

Former Dallas Cowboys wide receiver Terry Glenn is expected to sign with the Miami Dolphins in the next few days, according to two sources.

Glenn was waived by the Cowboys on Friday.

http://www.star-telegram.com/332/story/793508.html

I dont think this is a surprise to anybody, everyone knew Bill Parcells always loved Terry Glenn. The only difference this time is that the Dolphins are getting a damaged  goods older receiver. Atleast now there wont be any talk about bringing Glenn back sometime after the first week of the season where contracts aren't guaranteed.

I think this is good for everyone involved

It doesn’t put pressure on the Cowboys to take a 2nd look at Glenn, TG gets the chance to get back on the field and Miami gets another Cowboys castoff.

I wish Glenn nothing but the best and I hope everything works out well for him. Just don’t ignore the doctors and put your long term health at risk.

Least surprising move of the off-season

Good luck TG, cause Tuna will play you as long as you can still walk. You think a little thing like failing a physical will stop BP from signing one of “his guys”.

I am sure they will say he passed the physical

Probably so

I wonder though, why he failed the Cowboys physical? Do they x-ray the knees and see if there is enough space where the cartilage is? Or was it something else.

I guess there is not a set standard for all teams when it comes to passing physicals.

No standard

we probably did an x-ray, and Miami will touch his knee and say “it seems fine”..

Good for him.

I wanna see him (when healthy) race Tedd Ginn.

That #38 sure can hit!

Signing him is one thing

Paying a lot is another, I wonder how much he is getting and how it’s structured?

He'd be good on the Jags.

He’d really help that team out…eventually.

Either way, he’s off to Florida!

I think TG screwed up

I would rather play for a loaded Cowboys team for $1 then play for the dolphins. They are going to absolutely suck and this makes TG seem like an ego maniac. I mean, does he have to be “the guy” on a crap team? I cannot imagine why he didn’t sign the waiver for a chance to stay in Dallas. Even if he was severly limited but made 20 catches this season on the way to the playoffs that seems much better than being a stud on team turd.

IDK, Glenn was a stud when he played here but I think he has some pretty bad ideas sometimes. Good luck TG!

He's the ultimate FOB

I figured he’d be in Miami as soon as Parcells showed up there. I expect they’ll be signing either Vinny, or maybe call Bledsoe out of retirement soon too. Gettin the band back together.

Tampering

I will be the first to break it. Bill tampered with Glenn.

If the media was willing to accuse Owens of trying to off himself, they oughta swallow this hook, line and sinker (no Tuna pun intended),

Good Luck TG

We hardly knew ya. You lost your star so my love is gone. I’m blindly loyal that way. Either you are on the team or a target in the crosshairs….there is no middle ground. Go down to Miami and spend freely that dough that Jerry gifted you last year. Make sure you at least say thank you on the way out

I'll still root for TG

I always thought his talent was second to none, but was unfortunately a china doll most of his career.

Just a great, great receiver when healthy and I wish him the best in Miami.

I am sure most of us have at least thought this...

along with some who have posted pieces of this in other threads…. (i actually wrote this in an email to some of my fellow Cowboy fans that i correspond with regulargly)
___

Glenn will be in Miami before the end of the week is my guess….. Which is fine, I like him and hope he can continue his career (i.e. he is NOT going to hurt us by catching passes in Miami)

I can’t help but think that Jerry has SOMETHING cooking and that is why he let Glenn go. I really don’t think he is satisfied with our #2 receiver spot.
As Chris says below, we are ‘LOADED’ and maybe, just maybe, Jerry is going to get through a portion of training camp see how our injury situation is and then possibly put some players and some picks together to get that #2 guy he is coveting.
I don’t really think that is a GREAT move, as we are loaded in places where you want to be loaded (corner and linebacker) but I can’t help but think that with Jenkins and Adam Jones that Jerry might see Anthony Henry as expendable.
Anthony Spencer is a player so Ellis, who is old, but valuable (in a trade capacity), becomes expendable.
Tank coming on and Hatcher moving back to defensive end Marcus Spears (again valuable but not living up to first round expectations) becomes expendable.

So with all that depth Jerry might have something in mind. Of course injuries, like the one already to Newman, changes this completely BUT… why would Jerry NOT take that chance on Glenn (the money was absolutely marginal) unless something was up….

Roy William in Detroit is a free agent after this year, and the Lions are more than a few players away from being a contender AND they are LOADED at wide receiver. It might be smart for them to get something for him before he becomes a free agent and just leaves.
Right now Jerry might over pay for Roy Williams as he can taste the Superbowl, sees all the depth we have that might just be riding the bench etc…

I really think not signing Glenn for practically nothing was part of a bigger plan.

by stephena on Jul 30, 2008 1:39 PM CDT reply actions

I disagree

unless Hurd and Austin fall flat on their faces in preseason. If they keep stepping up and play well, there is absolutely no need whatsoever to trade for a veteran #2 receiver.

You can’t have enough corners or pass rushers so moving Henry or Ellis doesn’t make sense at all.

by Terry on Jul 30, 2008 1:58 PM CDT up reply actions

I even agree with you...

i just can’t figure why you don’t take the chance on Glenn for MINIMAL money unless you have a plan.
Glenn plays the whole year it costs us, i think, $1.75M, he gets hurt on the knee in question it costs us, i think, $750K…. why not??!
Jerry has rolled the dice on bigger chances…. why not ride this….?!

i could understand better, but Jerry himself, expressed interest in upgrading the #2 spot.

again, i don’t think we should do this, i just think that might be what jerry is doing…

by stephena on Jul 30, 2008 2:04 PM CDT up reply actions

I think Jerry cut TG because

he knew the chances were high that at some point his knee wouldn’t hold up so why stop the progress of the young receivers.

There is nothing more Jerry wants than for Hurd, Austin and Stanback all to develop into quality NFL WRs so he doesn’t have to risk a first rd pick on one or trade for one. He did the same thing with the QB position and hit the jackpot.

If you can develop UFA or mid to low rd draft picks instead of rolling the dice on a first rd pick, you save boat loads of money and cap space. This is what Jerry is doing when he cut TG.

In Romo we Trust

by Terry on Jul 30, 2008 2:34 PM CDT up reply actions

Given that TG was cut

The team must have had complete certainty that either a) Glenn’s knee is totally shot or b) Crayton, Hurd, and Austin are better considering Glenn’s health.

I agree with those that say we aren’t likely to see a trade. Frankly, nobody has much of an incentive to trade away veterans for draft picks come training camp time.

I also agree that Henry and Ellis are critical for this year.
